FAI: A lottery in the name of Tymora.

Unread post by Ivan38Rus »

A hooded man, with features obscured by heavy robes has entered Friendly Arms Inn during its most busy hour. His clothes were worn and covered in road dirt, a small bag was hanging behind his back, likely holding all his worldly possessions. Crowds of various adventurers and traders from all over the Coast appearead before him as soon as he stepped inside the Keep. Insults and sounds of juggling coin were filling the air as he made his way inside the inn, avoiding the crowds.

Next day, he rented one of the merchant stands, without any hurry, he cleaned it up and hung a big wooden sign on it:

A LOTTERY IN THE NAME OF TYMORA!
TEST YOUR LUCK FOR FREE AND WIN A MAGICAL ITEM OF NO SMALL POWER!

Adventurers only.
Start will be announced.

Satisfied by his work, the man retired to his room to rest and prepare.

And all the hooded man would recieve in responce is a few uncertain shrugs and ramblings of an old man that it's all just a scam and that "dem elves wants to take over mah farm."

Apparently, people just aren't really aware of it.

Blades of the Mercenary:

A pair of these swords and a pool of melted metall is all what remained of a mercenary band's leader named Quinn.

His story is not a very detailed one. He served in the Waterdhavian Army and later was 'recruited' in a mercenary company in the employ of one of the noble houses of Waterdeep. He became infamous after a small team under his command "took care" of bread riots in nearby village by publicly executing all village elders and every member of their family, regardless of age. He's believed to be involved in a chain of assasinations which took place after said mercenary company was disbanded and noble house fell out of grace. He vanished for almost a year and appeared later in the Moonsea region. His resourcefulness and skill with the blade distinguished him from the rabble, who came to Moonsea for fortunes and glory. Quite soon, he was recruited by one of Moonsea's numerous tyrants, whose name is better left unmentioned.

Quinn was in a foul mood when he stumbled upon old man, wearing rags, whose wagon was blocking the road because of the broken wheel. Known amongst his men for being short-tempered at times, Quinn, after short irritated talk, swiftly drew his sword and lifted it to cut the gaffer down. Little did anyone know that the man in rags, was, in fact a powerful magician. As the sword was ready to strike, both Quinn and the old man vanished in a blast of magical energy. Baffled by such turn of events, other sellswords ran away as fast as their horses could and their fate remains unknown. Just as the fate of the mysterious magician... and Quinn, for that matter.

Both swords had insignia of one of the Waterdhavian merchant families engraved on their pommels. I did my best to destroy them so that Quinn's last name remained unknown."

Afterwards, he takes a pair of worn and unremarkable boots out of the very same bag, looks them over critically and shakes his head muttering something under his breath. Attaches a note as he places them on the stand near the duo of blades.
"Boots of Waterdeep's Finest Dancer:

A pair of these magical boots was commited to gnome artificers by Waterdeep's Finest Court Dancer of 1305 D.R., who just couldn't cope with the fact that from a dashing young lad, whose grace and swiftness could easily rival the most feminine of Tel'Quessir, he turned into a bitter old man whose sole existance was based around balls and recalling 'good old times' when noble women сould easily kill one another for a simple dance with him. These boots contained powerful magic, when a particular activation word was said, the boots would start dancing by themselves and guide wearers' movements in perfect match to the music until deactivation word is said. The old man tested these boots by himself and never did they fail him.

When the big Court Ball came, much to everyone's surprise, withered old man challenged current finest dancer, a young dashing lad. They danced for hours, exhausting musicians and depleting their repertoire in doing so. Their partners could barely stand, let alone keep up to their perfect pacing and swift movements. Finally, old man, despite magic in his boots started to feel exhausted as well, sudden realization that no matter how much he cheats, he just cannot rival pure skill and trained young body, came down on him like a shock and his heart just couldn't take it. His soul left his whithered old body before it hit the ground. To everyone's shock, dead man's feet continued the dance even as their wearer's body went limp and a healer confirmed death.

Dancing boots were believed to possess old man's soul and, few unsuccessful exorcism attempts later, were put in a crate and hidden in a vault, where they continued their dance for several years.

They still encrease one's endurance and swiftness of movements. It is possible that the dancing enchantment is still in place, as well. All you need to know is activation word..."

Oblivious to his surroundings and gathering crowd, old man continues producing various items from his 'bag of wonders'. This time, it is a big case, filled with odd gem-incrusted wands.
'Gems'
A collection of these curious magical wands first emerged in a nearby city of Baldur's Gate, where they were in possession of a particular Earth Genasi.

How he came across such valuable asset remains a mystery, though it might be somehow connected to constant assasination attempets on his life, last of which happened during his and his significant other's honeymoon in Waterdeep. Those assassins, of course, stood little chance against combined power of a seasoned spellsword and a sorceress, and after a short fight, that whole encounter was over. Sadly, it was over not only for vile assasins, but for a young sorceress as well. During the fight, one of the arrows managed to pierce through her wards and soon, she fell prey to a sophisticated poison, which trapped her soul in the realm of the dead for an eternity.

Angered by his inability to do anything and slowly losing his mind to sorrow, the genasi sought comfort in familiar surroundings. He returned to the city of Baldur's Gate only to be later killed for collaborating with necromancer and summoning a powerful demon in the middle of Beregost.

Other than wand's extravagant and, undoubtedly, expensive design, they do not differ from those, which most magicians can create. They unleash magic, contained within, as activation word is spoken.
