Personal History (History ammended)
Xaralons parents were respected members of the Elvish community. Xaralon learned magic from his father who was a Wizard and alchemy from his mother who was an Alchemist. He was able to become a magic initiate at a very young age by drawing on the experience of his parents whilst working long nights studying in their basement makeshift laboratory.

Xaralons parents had little respect for those whose drive in life solely revolved around coin and despite the fact they had enough to get by they tried to be quite strict with their only son so as to stop him becomming spoiled and in preparation for the harshness of the world.

At the extremely young age of 100 Xaralons father sent him to a magic school.
Xaralon studied for 79 years , went back to his village but nobody seems to know about his parents, upon arriving at the village Xaralon could see the house was bare and empty! Xaralons eyes scanned the room fearfully, as he looked for signs of what had occured he noticed a charred symbol on the wall;just below a small glowing ring lay on the stone floor, Xaralon being magically inclined attempted to scry the ring in some vain hope that it would help find his parents. As Xaralon attempted to scry he was blown back with a massive gust and went headlong, sliding along the floor and bumping his head on the opposite wall. Naturally this is distressing for Xaralon and as such he elected to stay with the magic school, utilising them as a second home, helping out in the hope that one day he may be able to track or at least discover the fate of his parents. He keeps the ring in his possesion and thus far neither himself or his magic school has been able to scry said ring. Xaralon has a feeling that the power of the ring in his possesion is locked currently and constantly ponders the strange findings at the house. Xaralon has had regular nightmares since that night at his parents bare house, since he put the ring in his possesion, yet he cannot bring himself to part with the ring owing to the possibility of it aiding him in his search!

Xaralon only has the magic school to call as allies and he is about to forge his own destiny, the school master has gven him a license to use magic and told him to seek out a party first and foremost in preparation for the next phases/what lies ahead.

Need help with this, my char only knows, his village, his magic school, magic eq, as far as I see it from an IC perspective I can use my newness as an advantage(Dont want to get tangled up in lore , I want to learn it in game so to speak so its second nature, despite the fact I have read some on the forums)


Thoughts? (Updated the background slightly again to add a twist and an element of interest, note I am not intending in copying any stories, this is my own and I totally do not intend to make this story as an excuse for me to act all epic, unlocking the rings power will only be rp extreme late game months down the line if I manage to get a very high level character)

Elves age much more slowly than humans. So a 30 year old elf would be a small boy.

Elves mature at roughly the same rate as humans, though they are not usually considered past adolescence until they reach 110 years of age. Unlike humans, elves do not age dramatically as their lifespan comes to a close with the most obvious changes being a change in hair color, alternatively graying or darkening. Most elves remain healthy and full of life up until their death, which, if age-related, is usually between two and nine centuries.

So I'd suggest you're elves age to around 200 years old. This will probably affect your background story as well, since he has lived for so long.

Also, if he is a wizard he'll have a high Intelligence score. And for every 2 points of intelligece you learn an extra language on top of your base languages (since you are an elf your base languages are Common and Elvish). A list will pop up after you make your character when you first join the server of what you can choose from.

In my humble RP-based opinion regarding asthetics; an elf 6'3" tall seems at least 3" too tall for a typical elf. Also, any person that tall yet only weighing 120 pounds would be a stick of person, elf or otherwise. If you are going to be that anorexic, you should have some 8's in your Ability scores (i.e. STR and/or CON if not both).

Cheers I will definitely apply these recommended alterations. Just popping back in game at the momment.

EDIT: Have ammended history , had lots of whiskeys so hoping its ok.

My weakness is lore, however that said I have enjoyed reading the explinations on the forums and as such I was wandering if someone could reccomend D&D books that are packed with material, yet interesting and those that would be off most benefit for this server?

Final thing I forgot to edit the weight and height of my Elf, I have adjusted those now as well, I am happy to alter the height and weight again, basically I want a reasonably tall elf that is not so thin that its making him look boney or weak. Once I have got a character to epic status throughout the months I will try a frail character and RP it

Actually have just had another idea, this new idea is based on what I have seen when examaning some of the players online who are good RPers. I examine a player and he has for example DC Lore 7 = notice the ring. I was thinking of doing something similiar, for example,

DC Lore 7 = You notice a ring on Xaralons index finger
DC Lore 21 = You notice a glowing ring which draws your eyes, it is a very strange sensation, could this ring be magical?

I think if I do something like this it leads to me having better rp as I can gradually bring my background story in, giving me current RP possibilities but also getting around my minimum lore knowledge until I get a few months under my belt and the chance to learn it.

JOURNAL

ENTRY 1a: Finally made it to Baldurs Gate, I am eager for adventure, sure I'm no master Wizard but I know easily enough to hold my own around these parts!


ENTRY 1b: Landed some jobs such as a simple delivery job to beregost that pays well, what a mug paying so much for such a simple task!

ENTRY 2a: I was set up! My employer mentioned nothing of the state of these damn roads! There is no way I will get to Beregost without an escort, I have already just avoided being mauled by wolves and attacked by bandits! Stranger still these wolves don't seem to even attack the Bandits. What a rough day, I'm going back to Baldurs Gate to give my employer a piece of my mind!

ENTRY 3a: It's a new day and I don't want to jeopardize the Beregost contract, perhaps I can find some new more attainable work and build up my spell strength?

ENTRY 3b: Was checking out the local merchant stock, whilst asking when bandits made there home so close to Baldurs Gate, I was approached by a man who offered me a job trying to reclaim stolen goods from the cave, I will approach this place very cautiously

ENTRY 3c: Considering those damn mangy wolfs I am going to explore the nearby graveyard, have heard of some collector in that general area

ENTRY 3d: My god! undead, AMBUSH!.........

ENTRY 3e: I am so shaken, I note what has occured as my mind is cloudy but I never thought such things possible. I was running out of the Graveyard and nearly made an escape when I must have been struck down by one of the undead, All went black, swirling I started to see some other realm when I was dragged back it seems. I awoke bound and gagged, I tried to speak! I could not! To the front were 2 undead zombie like creatures, they were unlike normal undead denizens or was it I was transforming myself for these undead would not harm me, they just stood quietly.

To the left and right were two green spirit creatures, Suffice to say I was terrified , I would be one of the damned but in my fear I noticed the green spirit creatures pointing to my left.

Thank the gods, somehow I managed to untie my bindings in a sly fashion. I could not unbind the gag and was surrounded. My god, it seems though reclusive in nature, must have smiled on me this day because as fate would have it a Paladin happened to come walking through the graveyard. The Paladin tried to speak to me but all I could do was point to the gag, why were these undead still standing but would not attack neither of us? What does all this mean? The Paladin was concerned and seemed as fearful as I was but still unbound my gag; the minute the gag was unbound the undead started attacking!! , my skin burning, feeling sick and in utter agony I knew I would not survive the fight and as such gradually limped to the rear. The Paladin knew how to fight but was swamped. Somehow I garnered the last of my strength and unleashed 2 spells and then slumped to the ground, was I Dieing? Never the less the Paladin slayed these undead and kindly healed me. We stood for a time, in shock and then got the hell out of there.

As cold a person as my parents accused me of being I feel I am starting to warm to the residents of these surrounding towns, the ones I have met speak of valor and honour and while I like to pride myself knowing the falsehood of either extreme there is some logic in what they say in such dark times. One thing is for sure I am in this Paladins debt!


ENTRY 4a: Thats it, I am going to stop being so brash at least for the time being, somehow I feel strengthened today.


ENTRY 4b: I have done it! I am south along the way to Beregost and I've found the Bandit hide out I believe.........*arrow flys past ear

ENTRY 4c: NOT THIS TIME! I unleashed a missile volley from one of my spells and destroyed the bandit, I am becoming more aware.........*hears someone scream arghhh!

ENTRY 4d: I ended up speaking to a druid of sorts, seems harmless enough but then looking to this ladys eyes there is a wildness of some sort. I should have spent less time on the applied usage aspect of my studies it would seem and gained more understanding of the cultures in this place for this person spoke in a unique way, most may well have past this person by but there is so much more happening in this land these days that I need to learn or die basically. I studied the way this being spoke, we traded words and stories for hours, I looted the chest at this makeshift Bandit camp(Why was it empty and valubles secured with such a low quality lock?) and have decided to go to where the Druid is guiding me. It's late but I will set up camp when we get there, the Druid seems eager to come along, she seems friendly, thats fine by me, besides I may need here help if things get bad.

ENTRY 4e: After some limited resistance we finally made it to some forboding ruins on a hill. The Druid knows the land well as they should do but why didn't I find this place? I am setting up camp for the night, I am exuasted!

ENTRY 5a: I awoke, went outside the tent, the Druid was sitting against a rock, she tilts her head curiously and tells me to sit against one of the rocks and that rocks would grow hair or some such? To most it would seem strange but after being guided to a place which I knew nothing about in such a remote location I realised that this being exhibited an intelligence of a unique kind. I sat at a rock, waited trying to find out the Druids reason or purpose? Strange!

Entry 5b: I have made a breakthrough , although I am not sure if I am happy with what I have found out. The Druid wants me to help but there is an easy way or a hard way, I was then told that I could, for quickness sacrafice one of my fingers and that off another, as a trade of some sort. I don't know whether madness had taken me or I was under some kind of spell but I agreed, subsequently trying to convince a well built fighter type adventurer who recently arrived at the ruins to do the same. I was probably one second from getting my finger removed when the group that had just arrived at the ruins pleaded with me to stop. One particular adventurer who said something about Talos walked away in disgust, he is welcome to his views but I must become stronger and take risks, I will do what is necessary!

Entry 5c: Thank goodness those adventurers stopped me acting in haste for I now understand the Druids motives better; she would rather have the Moss, thank the gods! After much discussion I have managed to coordinate with the adventurers and we are all going in for the Moss, Druid and all!

Entry 5d: Those adventurers were exceedingly strong, the Druid is also ridiculously powerful it seems, she sneers as if the powerful bladelings she kills are mere fodder! Such power, it is admirable. We collected a bunch of Moss and the Druid gave all of us lots of coin and items, and for Moss?? I almost feel sorry for the Druid, she is giving away all her coin? How perplexing?

Entry 6a: Before I know it the druid vanishes into thin air and the group disperses, I wander if I will bump into this strange being again? So many questions, these are the strangest lands I have ever frequented , I should have taken mother and fathers advice more but its too late for that now. I can be so stubborn!

( Just FYI 5'8 and 185 pounds and thin build? That is the build of an overweight person. Elves generally weight a lot less than humans as a rule of thumb, at 5'8 they should weight no more than 125-140', i'd say the lesser of the two if he were thin and not particularly strong (Low str score.) the only elves that weight touches closer to a humans are Wild Elves, as they are more heavily muscled, just a tip. I look forward to running into you in game ! Thanks Rask! Will definitely fix the weight and also take you up on that offer from time to time. Really happy thus far, only thing that is tough is the exp debt but in most groups someone can ressurect. Actually have more to add to my journal already but will wait until more things happen again. I formulated the journal as a way for me to really get into my character and because there is so much information to be considered before the character memory s and such become second nature.

The feeling is mutual, also looking forward to seeing you in game! (means very much that comming from someone like yourself who is a more experienced player) Everyone has been very patient, if this maintains it is pretty much a first me seeing that in a community even mid term.

Maybe its just me but the server seems to be getting more players? Was VERY busy at one of the road side fires the other night
