"The Standard of Duty"
A Standalone Event
Sir Davon Brightsteel once again set out to find a knight of Torm to perform a duty for the church. This time, Sir Jonas Rokranon recommended Sir Thostar D'Spiril. Brightsteel approached Sir Thostar, and brought him back to the church of Torm by horse. Once there, High Priest of Torm Celwig Olwen informed Sir Thostar a bit about the Standard of Duty, a book kept on the altar there at the temple. Xaver Faithshield, the man who had the temple at Baldur's Gate constructed, had commissioned a dwarf, Grimbosch Brightlore, to pen the Penance. Grimbosch had written two copies. The copy at the temple was incomplete, as it had been stolen and desecrated by Banites in the past. Sir Thostar's mission was to find Grimbosch and obtain the other copy for the church.

Sir Thostar set out for Candlekeep, the last known location of the dwarf loremaster. Along the way he asked Keshari Bleth to accompany him. When they arrived at the Keep, Guard Isaac Holt bit them welcome, and after a few pleasantries and the information that all the ranking Keep members were in a meeting, he directed them to Reader Thomas. The Reader informed them that Grimbosch had moved to Beregost a few weeks prior to enjoy his retirement.

The two adventures now headed to Beregost, and along the way met and joined up with Karen Ferox, Marco Van Besta, and Sir Valek Sunborn when a large force of goblins attacked. With the goblins defeated, the group of five entered Beregost and spoke with Most Radiant of Lathander Kelddath Ormlyr. Ormlyr directed them to Feldepost's. Once at the inn, the travelers finally met with the aging dwarf, who wore a large hat low over one eye to hide a large gash and ruined eye. Grimbosch was reluctant to inform the group that after he had tried to build a home south of town, a large blue dragon had come and destroyed his place because he was "bored". Angered by this injustice, Sir Thostar led the group south to find this dragon.

The group found the dragon, and it proved to be none other than Acophisinian, who had troubled Beregost previously due to boredom. As more people came along, including Pledge, Katha, Vishnir Tirandez, and Godiethrang Hallomen, Keshari and Karen played and sang the huge dragon a song, because Grimbosch had told them of the dragon's love of song and entertainment. The song, sung in draconic, manage to impress Acophisinian enough to spare the life of everyone present. They told him of the book they sought, and after flying to his hoard quickly to look, he returned with the Standard, which he remarked was one of the most boring books he had ever read. Book in hand, the adventurers returned to Feldepost's in Beregost. There, Grimbosch told them of his desire to seek vengeance upon the wyrm, but the seventeen ales might have had something to do with his attitude. The old dwarf refused any payment, and the group parted ways.

Sir Thostar returned to the church of Torm and handed the book to Olwen. Impressed, and pleased, the High Priest traded the knight a more highly enchanted Crusader's Tunic for the lesser one he had.

(( XP rewards of varying amounts rewarded to all based on amount of time spent and RP contribution. Armor was bestowed to Thostar for completing a Church quest and returning to report. His old armor was taken. ))

"Brotherhood of the Wyrm, Part 1"
A Dragon War Event
Dallenthel Wyndsoul and four Weaver Master Scouts met at Istari tower and were charged with investigating the ancient white dragon, Laximyrkcion, who resides in the Cloudpeak Mountains. The five ventured to the Lion's Way to try to find Plantagonox the bronze. Plantagonox was eager to help scout, and flew ahead to begin. The adventurers continued into Candlekeep to try to find someone who could teleport them quickly to the mountains to keep the element of surprise.

In Candlekeep, the group learned from Guard Isaac Holt that the only available mage around was Gorion. Upon asking the guest of Candlekeep for assistance, he was only too happy to comply. Gorion led the adventurers outside and opened a portal to Nashkel. Quickly the group went through, and found themselves safely at their desired destination. The ground shook beneath their feet, and they observed Plantagonox taking down a white dragon. Mistaking the white for the elder, they began to hurry up the mountain to take care of the eggs. Plantagonox quickly stopped them and informed them that there was not one white on the mountain, but seven. Now, six. He took flight again, and the group climbed the mountains into the narrow pass.

In the pass, they heard a roar from above and saw the bronze wyrm being chased by another white. Plantagonox outmaneuvered the white and was able to deliver a killing blow, sending the white crashing to the ground with a tremendous crash. The adventurers took out a few frost giants and wolves as they made their way farther up the mountain. The snow grew heavier, but they could still see their bronze dragon friend flying above. Without warning, three huge whites attacked Plantagonox in mid air, breaking his wings and sending him falling. He nearly landed on the adventurers when he fell, and with his dying words he whispered to the young Wyndsoul something. His loss heavy on their hearts, the group of five continued their mission, meeting heavy resistance from the frost giants. The party used stealth more as they journeyed on, and overheard a conversation between two Mystics of the giants.

One of the party made too loud a sound, and the mystics and other giants came down on them. Once the enemies were dispatched, the adventurers reached the mountain top to discover Laximyrkcion asleep, her massive head resting right next to a next of eggs. Three kept watch as two looked into the nearby cave. The dragon's breath only made the icy air even colder, and the group could not stand it for long. As the sun rose the great wyrm began to stir, and they departed quickly. They made it about halfway down the mountain before they caught the attention of another of the white dragons, and the party ran as quickly as they could as the wyrm blew its icy breath all over them.

The foothills brought some relief as the dragon turned back to the peaks. The battered and heartbroken group made their way north, but before long one of the whites flew overhead, flying quickly toward the north. Toward the cave where Plantagonox made his home. The party nearly flew in their haste to reach the cave, but the dragon still made it first, and gloated as it held out an object to them, claiming they had lost. Dallenthel wanted to kill the dragon there, but one of the scouts reminded him that the treasure it held would be destroyed if they made a hostile move. The white dragon took off back toward the Cloudpeaks, and the party moved on. They heard that Exarch Elias Goodmane had been attacked nearby, and made their way to him quickly. He had been attacked by drow, but was alright for the most part. The Exarch teleported his guildmembers back to Istari tower, where they made a full report. Hearts were heavy as the Weave Masters dispersed.

"The Dangers of Calling a Dragon 'Coward'"
A Standalone Event - By Private Request
Jade Redford, upon hearing of Plantagonox the bronze dragon's death, immediately began to plan how to kill the white dragons of the Cloudpeak Mountains in vengeance. When he was told of the existence of the blue dragon Acophisinian, he acted immediately. Jade set out from Candlekeep to find a minstrel to appease the blue wyrm. Near the merchant camp and bridge over the River Chionthar, the earth genasi came upon both Keshari Bleth and Glyd'yah Jarshby. Glyd'yah was the more reluctant of the two, but both agreed and the trio set off to the lands south of Beregost where the blue dragon is known to inhabit.

The party reached the Ulcaster ruins without seeing the wyrm, though they did meet a herd of wyverns that seemed to be avoiding that immediate area. They searched around for a little while with no sign of the dragon until the ground began to shake violently and Acophisinian emerged from under the ground nearby. Jade's attempts to get the dragon to see his moldings fell upon deaf ears as the blue wyrm grew quickly bored. Disaster almost struck when Jade pulled out a miniature representation of Plantagonox, though Keshari was able to divert the dragon's attention by beginning a song with Glyd'yah.

The song was an ode to Acophisinian himself, and though a little unprepared, the duo did a fine job of keeping the dragon's attention. Jade, however, broke in with his own verse about how Acophisinian should prove his might by defeating the elder white in the mountains. The blue wyrm was enraged by this, declaring he would never assault one who was a favored of Tiamat. As the blue wyrm tunneled underground, Jade yelled after him "Coward!"

This proved fatal as the dragon surged back above ground with a mighty roar, killed Jade, and grievously wounded both Glyd'yah and Keshari. The two minstrels scolded Jade severely for several minutes for insulting the enormous dragon, and the three parted ways on a very sour note.

(( XP rewards given to the three participants for RP. ))

"The Bane of Your Existence"
A Standalone Mini Event
Two banites were venerating The Black Hand at the temple when an intruding wizard came in on them. Feeling threatened in their own sanctuary, the banites called to their god to strike down the infidel. The entire temple shook in response, and a blast of dark energy struck the wizard intruder. His fear overwhelmed him as he immediately cowered from the onslaught. Suddenly, another man entered the temple, a fighting man. Bane struck out at this one too, and though his will was stronger he too felt fear of the angered god. The banites reveled in the power of their god, one of them laughing with pure glee. In a final display of power, a gate to the Abyss opened and a balor emerged, attacking the intruders. The wizard fell quickly, unable to defend himself due to fear. The fighter managed to defeat the balor, but he was injured so badly in the resulting explosion of the death throes of the tanar'ri that he escaped as quickly as he could, grabbing the body of the fallen wizard in the process.

The two banites resumed their worship with a renewed vigor while the fighter raised the dead wizard in the woods outside the temple. Upon being raised and shrugging off the disorientation, the wizard killed his savior in an odd twist of fate.

(( Chronologically this happened several events ago, I just forgot to do a write up. It was short but very entertaining. ))

"Alone in the Darkness"
A Standalone Event
It was a beautiful day, and River and Catrina decided to have a picnic so that they could catch up on things and just relax a bit. The afternoon was going as planned until a strange melodic female voice broke in. "Have you forgotten your dear mother so easily, River?"

River was instantly terrified, for she recognized the speaker. The young bard had heard the voice before when she was held captive by the Herald of Darkness, the Shadow Singer. The terrifying voice belonged to none other than Shar, the Mistress of the Night. Shar wasted no time bringing an unnatural darkness upon the pair, and took them magically to a private and unknown sanctuary.

River and Cat were cut off from nearly everyone, except each other and a familiar presence in the back of River's mind. They took some comfort in that, and drew from the others strength. Shar tortured Cat to try to make River serve her as River had once, unknowingly, sworn to do. Shar wanted obedience. Cat refused to let River give in, even though Shar tempted the young elf with knowledge of her parents' identities, as well as showed her the sister she never knew she had. Shar proceeded to kill River's "sister" to make River turn, but she never did. She clung to Cat, and Cat to her, and in so both clung to hope. Shar grew furious and nearly killed Cat, and that was when hope provided help.

Out of nowhere a being of pure light and majesty appeared. He warned Shar that she had broken the rules by directly interfering, just as her servant the Herald had done, and that he was here to rectify it. The Avatar of Tyr said that one who served the light had prayed unyielding for help for River, and the request was granted. Shar and Tyr's avatar battled for a short time, but in the end Shar left in a shroud of darkness. She did not seem particularly defeated nor upset, just annoyed.

The Avatar brought River and Cat back to the Prime after healing all injuries, and told River to give the one who had prayed for her a message that twice now the gods had intervened on his behalf, and there would not be a third. River then asked the Avatar if she truly had a sister, to which he smiles and replied that she did indeed, but it was not the poor being Shar had killed. The Avatar of Tyr then left to return to the upper planes, and Cat and River found themselves with a renewed sense of peace and hope.

(( RP xp and alignment shifts given to both participants. ))

"The Brotherhood of the Wyrm, Part 2"
A Dragon War Event
Istari tower had not seen this many people cloistered in the main entry hall for some time. A large group of Weave Masters (Elias Goodmane, Foggy McGee, Siomir Danneren, and several scouts), as well as Dallenthel Wyndsoul, Anie D'lyn, Zelene Galuisurr, Jade Redford, Valaria, and Mutharin assembled to join together to go after the white wyrms of the Cloudpeak mountains. Exarch Elias gave the Portal Stone he and Foggy had fashioned to two of the scouts, and the pair set off immediately. Pushing themselves hard, the two arrived at the Cloudpeaks in record time and began to look for a good spot to open the portal back to the tower. Before long they found a great location near the blocked passage to Amn and activated the Stone. A shimmering portal came to life, and they jumped through to home.

Back at Istari, some of the gathered force heard the portal upstairs come to life and went to investigate. Foggy quickly realized it was unstable and send for the Exarch. As the portal crackled and discharged energies, the entire assault group gathered round and most of them seem reluctant to go in. Elias urged them on, and they filed through the open portal even as it began to collapse. Hurriedly they continued, until at last Elias went through himself. Up in the Cloudpeaks Elias emerged from the portal just as it collapsed for good.

Deciding to continue prepared, all members present who could cast spells began to cast enchantments and wards. In doing this they seemed to forget about the huge amount of noise such casting creates, and before long one of the white dragons heard them and began to assault them from above with its dragon breath. The dragon landed to attack them, but the wyrm did not last long against the small army assembled. Realizing they were too tempting a target out in the open, Elias urged them all to the Crystal Frost Keep. Upon reaching the Keep however, they encountered something they were not expecting: Dragonaries. These part man/part dragon beings unleashed their spells on the unsuspecting adventurers and caught many unprepared. It took some time for Sister Anie to tend to the wounded.

From here the bulk of the force remained outside to keep watch, and the Weave Scouts were sent in to investigate using their stealth tactics. Five went in. so two went left, two went right, and their leader went down the center. All passed many guarding giants as well as more Dragonaries. The left team encountered a large force guarding some doors. The leader encountered another force guarding the huge doors of the throne room. The right team found something curious though: the room with crystals that normally provide light for the Keep was different. The crystals were brighter and pulsing and humming with power. One of the Scouts made the mistake of touching a crystal, and was killed instantly by a discharge of energy. The member was found by the leader.

Eventually the scouts made it back outside, and the entire questing party entered the Keep. They headed to the crystal room first, as Foggy and Elias especially were interested in them. As most of the force set up a perimeter, Foggy and Elias focused on the crystals. They were able to discover that the power from the crystals was being focused and sent elsewhere. After one mishap and no luck, the group almost continued on when Elias remembered he had some blood of the good dragon Plantagonox, and Dallenthel remembered part of the giant conversation from the scouting expedition the week before mentioning Laximyrkcion is invincible by an outside source. With nothing to lose, Elias poured a bit of dragon blood on a crystal. It immediately began to smoke and crack, so everyone who had taken some of the bronze dragon's blood the week before now poured their vials out on the crystals. With bright energy discharges, the crystals went dim, their power released.

The next stop for the party was the heavily guarded room with the smaller doors. Again a great many of the group took heavy injuries in the battle. Once inside, and much to the relief of many present but most especially Elias and Dallenthel, they discovered the lost treasure of Plantagonox. Elias immediately teleported back to Istari tower with it and left it safely there. With his return to the Keep, the group made for the guarded room with the huge doors. Inside was another of the younger white dragons with several Dragonaries. This group went down, and so the adventurers made to exit the Keep.

Another dragon met them outside the Keep, using its ice breath on them from above. This time however they took the offensive and attacked it while it was in the air. A blast of energy and a well shot arrow brought the beast down to the ground where it put up a fight but could not defeat the party. The group started up the mountain to Mount Speartop, fighting a numerous amount of giants, Dragonaries, and even kobolds along the way. The injuries were numerous as the cold began to slow joints and hamper breathing. Once at the top, the fourth and final white wyrm child of Laximyrkcion was fought. This time the dragon had enough Dragonary guards, as well as the high ground, to really cause the adventurers problems. Still, in the end, they made it. They took some time to rest and recuperate before entering the cave of Laximyrkcion.

Entering the cave fully warded and enchanted, the party met the expected group of Dragonaries inside. They caused quite a bit of damage to the group, but Laximyrkcion herself was the primary target. The fight was long and difficult, but the adventurers pulled through. The ancient white wyrm fell, and the group began to celebrate. No sooner had they begun, however, than a portal opened and a demilich came through, laughing manically. He thanked them for killing the wyrm for him, and proceeded to raise it, or so Zelene identified. Instead he only raised the bones, as a dracolich rose from the corpse of Laximyrkcion. The demilich ushered the dracolich into the portal, and then mentioned that the Twisted Rune had two with three to go. Someone mentioned they would not speak with the lich, so he laughed and told them to enjoy his gift as he went back through the portal. His "gift" was five balors who reaped destruction on the party. Many fell in the battle, and if it were not for the ministrations and prayers of Sister Anie it could have been far worse.

With the dragon dead, balors banished, and portal closed, the party took stock of their quest. The scouts noticed the treasure was considerably smaller than they remembered, and several people remembered that dragons tend to eat their hoards when they know death is near. Baffled by the turn of events, the group pillaged the remainder of the dragon hoard and broke up to go their separate ways. Elias, for one, was more interested in the treasure at the tower than the ones in the caves.

(( XP rewards given to all fifteen participants. as well as one item each, level dependent, from the dragon's "hoard". ))

"I Know This Great Spell..."
A Standalone Mini Event
It was a normal day at the campfire for Zein Milu, Selis Vhaire, Keshari Bleth, Davor Trannyth, Arden Conchbair, Seadin Aleros, and Ward Williamson. Suddenly and without any warning, a portal opened on the other side of the Trade Way. Elementals of air of all sizes poured out while the portal crackled with electrical energy. Fire erupted from the portal and fire elementals appeared. Ice, and water elementals. Finally acid and earth. The adventurers were ready for anything, so they were very surprised when out walked an old man in drab clothes and a worn wizard's hat. Most of the group wanted to attack the old man on site, and as he asked for a "Velis Shaire" they grew more suspicious. When Selis was pointed out by Keshari, the wizard gave her some scraps of parchment which turned out to be articles for the Gazette. The old man was blatantly senile, but proved his skill and power when Davor and Arden tried to arrest him. Davor received a hit on the head with the man's staff and then the man disappeared into thin air, appearing several feet away. Ward grew tired of the crazy old wizard and departed. Meanwhile Damian Angmar had walked up and was in apparent awe of the mage's powers.

The two men continued to try to apprehend him; all the while the old man conversed off and on with Selis about the articles - he kept forgetting he had given them to her. Davor received another knock to the head from the wizard staff. Finally the two Fist men made the old mage angry enough to demonstrate his favorite spell: fireball. He lobbed a Hellball at the two, and while the damage was inflicted on him, he opened a portal and disappeared as he had come.

Selis had called the man "Morn."

"Mirror, Mirror..."
A Standalone Event
Captain William Fredrickson and Attendant Mutharin of the Weave Masters decided to look into reports of a minotaur mage having surfaced in the ruins in the Cloakwood. Things were fairly uneventful until they rounded one corner in the maze and instantly fell prey to the mind-numbing powers of a few erinyes baatezu. Though the two men were able to dispatch the devils, their surprised stunned them for some time longer until determination prevailed. The adventurers continued deeper into the maze, battling more erinyes, hell hounds, and imps. At one point six erinyes nearly slew them both. They stopped to rest and found a secret cache in the wall behind a statue. Their spirits raised by Tymora's luck, the Weave Guardians pressed onward.

Mutharin scouted ahead using an invisibility potion, and found the minotaur mage next to an open portal to the Hells. Quickly the dwarf returned to William, and the two charged. The minotaur calmly watched them charge, which paused William in his tracks. The mage revealed he could see Mutharin too, due to True Sight. Seemingly resigned to his fate, the mage merely commented that another would take his place when they slew him, and he began to cast a spell. The two men quickly took him down, but not before his spell was completed and two more of the mage appeared! Having cast Mirror Image, the minotaur successfully confused both men and they wasted time battling his images while a horned devil, or cornugon, came through the portal. Even as the mage fell, the devil brought destruction down on the men and they were forced to withdraw.

Outiside the room, they barricaded the door as best they could as they poured potion after potion down their throats and prepared to take the imposing devil head-on. Mutharin commented that he saw an open book on a make-shift altar and suggested they destroy it, and William, having spent so long in the Weave Masters up to this point and seeing many things, agreed it was a good idea. With guttural yells the Guardians of the Weave tore down their own barricade and went back to face the cornugon. William ran straight to the book, incinerating it with a vial of alchemist's fire, while Mutharin kept the devil busy. The fight was long and grueling, but in the end the devil fell to both men. They decided to take the remains of the book to Istari, but unfortunately their poor searching skills did not uncover the most important clue...

"The Noble Knights"
A House Wyndsoul Event
Dallenthel and Valenthel Wyndsoul were leaving the Elfsong tavern when they were approached by a Fist soldier. He informed them that the Dukes wished an audience with the brothers, and so they set off at once to the Duchal palace. The Dukes informed both young men that they were impressed by the Wyndsoul family, both of past deeds by Keagan and Kahlen; as well as the generosity and dedication Dallenthel and Valenthel show the city of Baldur's Gate, particularly with their "Tolerance is Treason" campaign. The Dukes then brought in a Fist scout to inform the brothers of several drow sightings near the tower of Durlag, and even at the top of the tower seen under moonlight.

The brothers set off at once, using a portal created by Ragefast to quicken their journey. They learned quickly that they were unprepared for the sheer numbers of drow lurking in the tower, and turned back.

After acquiring the aid of Elias Goodmane and Bernard Sbach, the brothers returned to the tower, and the four adventurers took down a fair many drow and even spoke at length of the portal to the Underdark there. It was later though, after the four had left and parted ways, that Dallenthel realized they had not fulfilled their mission. With only Elias available to aid, Dallenthel and the Exarch returned to the tower once more, and this time they found what they sought.

Waves of drow attacked the two men, with mages and priestesses aiding the dark elves mercilessly. Time and again Dallenthel and Elias fought off the onslaught, and nearly fell more than once. Finally they battled to the top of the tower, and once all the guards were defeated, one lone drow remained. This one was larger than the others, and brandished a familiar sword. Elias' eyes burned with magefire as he recognized the sword of his old friend and protector, Keagan. Soon after Dallenthel recognized his father's blade, and he could barely contain his rage. The drow spoke at length about how he had bought the blade for almost nothing, as it was nearly worthless being the discarded sword of a failure of a slave combatant.

Pushed beyond endurance, Dallenthel charged the drow captain. More guards joined their leader, but in the end only Dallenthel and Elias remained standing. Before leaving the tower, Dallenthel took his father's old sword from the corpse of the drow, and then searched for anything of note. Finding some documents written in drow, the two decided to depart. Elias teleported both out of the tower, but Elias' fatigue was so great that he could only get them so far as the farmlands, startling a few passers-by.

Dallenthel and Elias made their way to the Duchal palace, and presented themselves before the Dukes. Eltan, Belt, Entar Silvershield, and Liia Jannath, the Council of Four, were all equally impressed over the success of the mission. It confirmed for them that they were right in what they wished to do...knight the Wyndsoul brothers and raise them into the nobility of Baldur's Gate. Duke Belt did the honors of knighting Dallenthel, and promised to do the same for Valenthel as soon as he was available. Elias looked on fondly as his "nephew" was made a knight of the realm.

The Council had to return to business, so Dallenthel and Elias returned to Istari tower to celebrate.

"Unexpected"

Wandering Necromancer Plot
Friday, June 17, 2011

Fyodr Arzhunar, Delphinn Veil, Renec Rokranon, and Lynneth Valkerie were making their way through some caverns in the Serpent Hills when they began encountering more organized groups of nagas than is the norm. Each small warparty got progressively more difficult to dispatch, but the group decided that pushing through to the lower exit would still be easier than returning the way they came. They find a burned up journal when they stop in a defensible room to rest that indicates the raising of the dead. Soon enough, they begin encountering undead in the tunnels, but they are not the undead of nagas.

A very old naga is encountered who informs the group that a necromancer had been trying to make his lair in their home, and the two groups had been clashing. He calls off the naga war parties so that the adventurers can tackle the undead. Beatrix finds her way through the corpses of nagas and piles of bone left in wake of the party, and joins them. They prevail against the remaining undead, but discover the necromancer most likely teleported away some time before, as evidenced by the decay of some runes and spells discovered. They question if this is linked to undead attacks to the south, or something else entirely.

Rewards: 1800 XP and gold for original four; 500 XP and Gold for Beatrix. 500 gold found by searching.

"Collateral Damage"

Mini Event
Sunday, June 19, 2011

For reasons only known to him, Meric Marshellow decided to change clothing behind one of the curtains at the Elfsong Tavern. While he was not caught while doing this, on his way out of the Elfsong, he inadvertently triggering a magical property on his armor, releasing a blast of acid that began to melt right through the walls. Needless to say, Lady Alyth was not impressed in the slightest, and considered calling upon the Fist. Her attitude was mirrored by a very drunken tavern regular, Zorl, who wanted to 'burn 'im!'. Other tavern patrons merely watched on with interest, muttering among themselves at how many lashes Meric might get.

Luckily for Meric, a young priest of Tyr by the name of Valis Ralen managed to diffuse the situation by ensuring Lady Alyth that he is an excellent judge of character and Meric seemed a good sort to him. On top of this, Meric dropped hints of being Ilmateri...which Alyth instantly connected to Saint Merielle. The tense situation subsided with Meric paying for the damages, and a polite conversation ensuring all around...and Meric being in Valis' debt.

Rewards: 500 XP for Valis; 500 gold for Meric (lvl 30)

"The Price of Greed"

Black Dragon Plot
Monday, June 20, 2011

The ruins upon the large hill north of the Friendly Arm Inn were alive with activity as Darren Ravenwood, Valis Ralen, Valah, and Tascelt Kain fought the kobold inhabitants and explored the tunnels. Before long, Louise De La'Valliere joined the four. The new group of five continued hearing odd sounds and were ambushed by groups of kobolds. Some potions were found by searching crates, but little in terms of treasure. The party decided to try to capture one of the kobolds in order to question about hidden treasures. The attempt did not go overly well, as either killing blows were landed instead of knock outs, or the kobold they captured could not speak common.

Eventually, however, the five came upon an older kobold shaman who could speak their tongue. She was unusually helpful, going so far as to point out how to open a secret hidden door in the floor that led down into the depths below the hills. In the water filled caves, more kobolds were found, the party soon learned they had been tricked when they met a small black dragon, Jurlfalud. While some tried to reason with the beast, Darren, a paladin, was insistent on making no deals, and was ultimately killed for his words toward the chaotic dragon. Some sort of deal was struck by Tascelt, and the dragon left, reluctantly allowing the remaining group to leave. A small cache of gold was discovered to have been left behind by Jurlfalud.

Rewards: 2000 XP and gold for all participants. A few minor potions were discovered by searching. Some minor alignment shifts occurred.

"A Matter of Heart"

Serpent Uprising Plot / Thiago II's Knight Quest
Wednesday, June 22, 2011

High Priest of Tyr Eldric Sulnar summoned senior Order of the Radiant Heart paladin Aethor Siger to the temple in order to request aid of the paladin order. Within a short time, Thiago II, Renec Rokranon, Aerin Inzilbeth Wavesilver, and Lance Renslin had answered the call, and the high priest and Aethor introduced the four to Geoffrey Tallcrest, a merchant from up near Boareskyr Bridge. Goodman Tallcrest informed them about an attack upon the inn he was staying at, and his son, Mevric, and some goods being stolen by unknown forces. Aethor ordered the four to journey up north and investigate. The church of Tyr was to provide horses.

The party arrived at the inn up near Boareskyr Bridge. They spoke with the innkeep a bit, and looked around. Questioning one young woman revealed little, but she was a bit shady so they kept her close at hand. No alcohol was taken (except one kind of cheap wine that is near to poison), only foodstuffs and other supplies. Tracks were found in some spilled flour - large wavy lines. Downstairs in the cellar, more such lines were found. When it was mentioned that it looked like the tracks snakes make in sand, the young woman broke down in tears, finally explaining that she had heard a terrible hissing and that her little brother, Brock, was also missing. The group quickly deduced that nagas had been involved.

Thiago, Aerin, Renec, and Lance rode swiftly in the direction of the Serpent Hills, but came to a sudden stop when their spooked horses nearly threw them (or did throw them in Lance and Aerin's cases). A force of lizardmen attacked the party, in a reasonably impressive defensive pattern and show of force. The group of holy warriors survived the assault, and soon found evidence that the nagas and lizardmen had been fighting each other, but not why. Unfortunately, the horses had been slain in the heavy fighting, and the party had to continue on on foot.

By the time they reached the Serpent Hills they were all tired, but battle was brought upon them with a vengeance. There were stockpiles of supplies everywhere, and entrenched nagas well prepared to defensd. Despite their heroic fighting, the sheer numbers of enemies proved too much, and they were backed into some mines. Here they managed to barricade themselves in long enough to rest, then continued deeper into the mines. There they found a large and battle-hardened naga captain of sorts, but were not very interested in trading words. The children were just beyond this naga. After it was dispatched, Aerin primarily helped the children while the other three fought their way out. The fighting followed them even a bit beyond the Serpent Hills, but escape was possible.

It was night by the time they were coming back through the Fields of the Dead, which is a terrible time to pass through that vile place. Increased undead activity as of late only got worse at night, and the group was just barely able to get the children back into the safety of the lands surrounding Baldur's Gate. Mevric, Brock, and the girl, Lilliana, were delivered into the hands of the Triadic churches, and the group of holy warriors were rewarded for their valorous rescue and learning of this new uprising in the Serpent Hills.

Rewards: 2500 XP for all four. A Potion of Heal was found by searching. Items as follows:
Thiago II: Angelic Avenger, Greater
Renec Rokranon: Crystalline Armor, Greater
Aerin Inzilbeth Wavesilver: Helm of Gram the Mouse
Lance Renslin: Ring of the Strong, Greater
