Arcane Scholar of Candlekeep RP related question.

Unread post by Blunkanthrust »

I have a wizard character with ASoC levels, now does this give me the right to in anyway affiliate or asoc-iate (little pun there) myself with Candlekeep or any forms of studying there, or access to any discounts or benefits?

Thanks in advance for any useful answers!

Well, in essence, Maecius and Duster would probably answer that.

However - if you're not affiliated directly with the IG faction, and are an AsoC - just always remember that:

Not all Arcane Scholars of Candlekeep actually study at Candlekeep or are directly related to them. Perhaps they'd visit, or are affiliated by something else.

Short answer: No. You're only affiliated with Candlekeep if you join their guild.

Long answer: One does not need to be affiliated with Candlekeep to be an Arcane Scholar of Candlekeep:
[...] Arcane Scholars dispersed into the wider world, observing and recording all the various expressions of magic they could find. Their tradition has gradually spread, and some mages who have never set foot in Candlekeep have adopted their disciplined and systematic approach to magic.
The class represents a tradition of metamagical specialization that originated in Candlekeep, but has since become widespread.

The real-life comparison I like to give is a historian using the University of Chicago's citation and style guide. Most North American professional historians use this style guide for their writing, but not all of them attended the University of Chicago, or have any affiliation with it. The style simply started there, and has become the accepted style for history writing.

That's pretty much what the Arcane Scholar of Candlekeep is: someone who uses an accepted style of metamagical study.
