"Weakness of Attitude"

Black Dragon Plot / Wandering Necromancer Plot
Friday, June 24, 2011

Tascelt Kain decided to make good on his proposed deal with the black dragon Jurlfalud, and ventured into the bandit caves south of Baldur's Gate with Lillith Azrael and Vallarie Re'vas as his 'muscle'. The bandits proved to be a disorganized mess, and when the small group met with some of the bandit leadership, they discovered the bossman of the thugs had been trapped when a rockslide collapsed one of the tunnels. The boss had been trying to confront a necromancer who had been trying to claim the cavern complex as his own.

Lillith blew the rockpile out of the way, and the three delved deeper into the caves, dispatching a variety of undead abominations along the way. Finally, they came to a small private setup deep underground, and discovered a man cowering in the armoire. Assuming this man to be the boss, Tascelt made his offer in the name of Jurlfalud and the seemingly weak-willed boss agreed as he shook in his boots. Only then did the real bandit boss arrive, shooting derisive looks at the other bandit, whom he called only 'Reg'. While Vallarie remained utterly bored with the entire situation as she was dubbed merely 'muscle', Lillith's patience had worn thin as well, and she gave a display of her power, which quickly cowed the bandit boss. The boss showed them some stones with runes on them that the necromancer had used, and each of the three took one. He then agreed to Tascelt's terms of gathering his forces and meeting at the nearby kobold ruins within the next day or two.

Rewards: 1000 XP for Tascelt and Lilltih; 1000 Gold for Vallarie (lvl 30)

"Two Smelly Sneaks"

Serpent Uprising Plot
Saturday, June 26, 2011

Vanira Talamora was enjoying conversation at the campfire outside the Friendly Arm Inn when a bird landed on her with a note tied to its leg. After reading the note, Vanira set off to Doron Amar where she was given a mission by the ranger Malandriel to scout out the Serpent Hills well to the north based on rumors coming out of Baldur's Gate. Vanira set out immediately on a horse, Elendil. She rode hard, and before reaching the Serpent Hill she met up with Beatrix, who was scouting the same things based on separate information. The two decided to team up and continue on foot.

They evaded groups of roving lizardfolk, listening to one group speak in their native draconic and watching another fight among themselves, before finding an offshoot branch of path that would take them west of the main naga camp in the Hills. Deciding to take this less traveled path, Vanira and B found a smaller camp and sneaked in to see what they could learn.

The duo moved stealthily throughout the camp, keeping downwind and even going so far as to smearing naga scat on themselves to mask their scent. They found a large cache of food and other supplies, and debated whether or not to poison it. B and Vanira then spied on an important conversation between a few ranking nagas, and also discovered nearby bodies of murdered travelers who had happened to come across the camp, or were else dragged there. They were nearly discovered when they decided to search in some crates, but managed to remain hidden, and even found a few items for themselves. Both women found another path out of the camp that led toward the main naga forces to the east, but decided based on previous intelligence to not risk that route for the time being. After learning what they could, the pair returned to the lands southwest of the Serpent Hills and rode Elendil back to Baldur's Gate, where the poor, tired animal could go no farther. Vanira and B parted ways to make their separate reports.

Rewards: 2250 XP for Beatrix and Vanira. One Potion of Healing and 500 GP were found by searching. Items retrieved from stolen cache as following:
Beatrix: Lightning's Fury Longbow, Greater
Vanira: 2 Diamonds, 15 Arrows of Petrification, 35 Arrows of Greater Dispelling, and 3 x 99 Arrows of Dispelling

"A Chill Night"

Wandering Necromancer Plot
Sunday, June 27, 2011

A large group of adventurers banded together to explore the gibberling caves north of the Friendly Arm Inn when they were beset by gnolls. This was completely unexpected, especially when more waves of the dog-like humanoids attacked them. The party, comprising of Niyenne Silvarari, Yip Ming, Dibble Dabble, El'tier Ellandral, Foggy, Syw'yn Gold Leaf, and Camthalion Celebrindal, continued to push eastward where they had heard a warhorn. Soon bugbears were joining the gnolls in running at them, and it was then that the group realized these forces were running away from something, not into a fight. The sounds of battle brought gibberlings running from the other direction, but they were quickly dispatched. As darkness fell, an unnatural hush and a dreadfully cold chill permeated the area just outside the Wood of Sharp Teeth. They found many dead gnolls and bugbears. Movement was seen among the trees by Camthalion and Syw'yn, and undead starting coming at the group.

Waves of a variety of undead assailed the group, culminating in a vampire. This foe proved to be beyond any of them, as it was quick and very strong. Niyenne remembered that a stake driven into the heart would stop a vampire, so she found a suitable tree branch and deftly handed it off to Yip, who stabbed the abomination. It fell, lifeless, and the party took some rest before pressing deeper into the Sharp Teeth.

Zombies, shadows, skeletons, wraiths...the sheer amount of undead was staggering. Foggy's ability to turn undead was quickly exhausted once more. On and on through the Wood they fought, resting again near a stream before pressing on up a hill, and to an unexpected sight. The party discovered a badly wounded bugbear leader of some sort, who informed them of the necromancer that had tried to push his people out of their home. Niyenne recognized the fading magics that had been used to create some of the undead. El'tier and Camthalion wanted to finish off the bugbear, as they reasoned it would be seen leading warparties against innocents otherwise, but the two were overruled by the rest and the huge bugbear limped off. A nearby area of scorched earth that held many bones of many different types of creatures was searched and a chest found. Although they failed to find the fireball trap on it that nearly wiped out most of the party, Dibble managed to take care of the lock, and the group was at least rewarded to the treasures within, though without the satisfaction of taking down a necromancer.

Rewards: 2200 XP and gold for all participates except Syw'yn, who left early and received 1800 each. Some searching throughout the event yielded 500 more gold and some potions, healing kits, and bolts.

"Tortured"

Demonologist Plot
Sunday, June 27, 2011

Eira'lynn Kvanagh and Zapzbolt Geardyne found themselves together in the graveyard outside of Baldur's Gate when odd flashes of green light around them caught their attention. Before they knew it, they both blinked and found themselves in a much larger and desolate cemetery. The spirit of a woman began speaking to them, mentioning a 'master' and how the two must escape as soon as possible. She mentioned him to be one who communed with the lower planes, and surely enough the spirits power faded as a portal to the Hells opened. Eira'lynn and Zapzbolt took care of what came out, and the portal closed as the spirit regained control of her waning power. She told the duo that should could probably return them to their proper plane if they brought her a particular nearby gem.

The pair fought through undead from the cemetery as well as more portals. Zapzbolt managed to get them into a temple, and inside the massive structure they found the gem in question being guarded by an Erinyes. Upon returning the gem to the spirit of the woman, she used it to focus her failing power and send the two home, begging them to spread the word of the future coming of her 'master'.

Rewards: 1350 XP for each, with 2 emeralds for Zapzbolt and a variety of potions for Eira'lynn

"Release"

Demonologist Plot
Wednesday, June 29, 2011

Asmund and Amalie Breyer were enjoying a nice stroll down the Trade Way when they were beset by bandits that seemed better trained than the norm. These ruffians used tactics that had the Breyers bleeding in short order. Vanira Talamora happened upon the siblings and joined them when the attacks included her as well. The three tried to track the bandits, but that lead only to another and larger ambush. A note was found suggesting someone was out to get elves. Alarmed, the three next came upon a strange glowing stone next to a tree. It pulsed with an eerie light that also encompassed their small party. Occasionally they would see glimpses of some barren place.

Amalie ultimately kicked the stone out of curiosity, and all three elves found themselves in a strange, desolate place. Having no idea where they were, the trio took cover when they heard a noise, only to be met by a bronze dragon wyrmling. Introducing herself as Pelisaruselni, she informed them that they were in a pocket plane of a demonologist, and trapped like she was unless they could retrieve the stone that Amalie kicked that was now lost. Somehow it was used to get people in and out, but she didn't know how. The demonologist toyed with them by opening up portals to the lower planes and allowing denizens of the deep through. Sometimes devils, sometimes demons, regardless the fighting was fierce and bloody. Ultimately the three elves and one little dragon found themselves face to face with a balor, a mighty demon indeed. Wasting no time mincing words, the quartet attacked, and down the balor went, releasing the stone along with a large burst of fire.

A spirit came upon the group at this point, An'naleth. An'naleth warned the group that the demonologist despises elves and uses their essence as focal power for his many acquired pocket planes. She offered to end her own existence by merging herself with the stone to get the group back to the Prime. Though reluctant to leave an elf behind, the trio agreed and the bronze dragon raised no objections. An'naleth disappeared in a brilliant, blinding flash.

Back on the Prime, Pelisaruselni offered aid to Amalie, Asmund, and Vanira in the future, and asked them to find her if they met anyone who had known her father. She flew quickly to her lair and presented her new friends with some acquired items from her small hoard of treasure.

Rewards: 2250 XP for all three participants. Some healing supplies were found through searching. Items from dragon as follows:
Amalie Breyer: Amulet of the Master
Asmund Breyer: Enhanced Boots of Striding +3
Vanira Talamora: Gem of Seeing

"A Change of Plan"

Black Dragon Plot
Thursday, June 30, 2011

The time for the meeting had come. Jurlfalud had notified the bandits under Tascelt Kain's command to meet in a swamp deep within the Cloakwood. Lillith Azarael would be tagging along again, and a man by the name of Espen Wolf was talked into going for additional support. The three ventured into the Cloakwood from the camp spot near the Friendly Arm Inn. They encountered the usual lizardfolk, but also a variety of spiders. Deeper and deeper into the woods they traveled, and even disturbed a gray render. Once it was dispatched, they continued on.

The spiders eventually began to steer clear, and Tascelt considered hunting for a deer to appease the black dragon when they meet with her. Another possible target presented itself in the form of a unicorn drinking from a stream. Lililth seemed mesmerized by the noble creature, and even Espen seemed impressed. Tascelt on the other hand managed to insult the unicorn, and it left after informing them they should continue following the stream in order to get to the swamp. This bit of knowledge was helpful, as the three were completely lost.

Will-o-wisps inhabited some of the swamp area, and the three spent a good bit of time looking for the dragon. They encountered a gnawed corpse that Lillith unfortunately got a bit too close to, causing her to become a walking wave of stench. Finally, Jurlfalud presented herself. Tascelt then called upon the bandits he had brought along who had followed at a distance. The original deal was no longer satisfactory to the very chaotic dragon, and a new one was made. Before leaving, Jurlfalud offered to the three adventurers any of the possessions of bodies nearby, but warned them to leave any and all coin alone.

Rewards: 2000 XP for all three participants. Each obtained a diamond. Recovered possessions from nearby bodies as follows:
Lillith Azarael: Belt of Agility +2
Tascelt Kain: Amulet of Shielding
Espen Wolf: Anguradal +2

"Curiosity"

Mini Event
Thursday, June 30, 2011

Lone woodsman Cort and his large feline companion, Matty, were enjoying a quiet night and warmth of a campfire in the hills south of Baldur's Gate when Matty's attention was drawn by a strange noise. Cort decided to investigate, and before long was face-to-face with a baby bronze dragon. This wyrmling was none other than Pelisaruselni, recently freed from captivity. The little dragon took a keen interest in Matty, but otherwise had a pleasant conversation with Cort. For his part, the woodsman was astounded at meeting a living dragon, much less one that was not corrupted by evil, and pledged to help her in the future.

Rewards: 300 XP for Cort

"Rejection"

Mini Event
Tuesday, July 05, 2011

Stargazer and Kage were enjoying a private conversation at 'home' when one of the guards informed them someone was waiting outside to speak to the 'proprietor'. Amused and alarmed at the same time, the two ventured outside to meet this individual. Going by the name of Mouse, the fellow offered a contract but was turned down as the price offered was deemed too low. Seemingly nonplussed, Mouse departed whistling a merry tune, but not before making sure the two knew how to get ahold of him if they changed their minds.

Rewards: 500 XP for Stargazer, 500 gold for Kage (lvl 30)

"Hold the Line"

Serpent Uprising Plot
Tuesday, July 05, 2011

When Vormav Blutklinge received word of an impending attack upon the Greenbough estate far to the northeast, he knew he would need help if he was to aid the little fiefdom. In short order, he enlisted the services of Jitsu, Azorel, Bre'teas Go'Qu, Vanira Talamora, Kald Blake, and Lance Renslin. The group of seven gathered in Candlekeep where Vormav paid for the service of teleportation in order to get to the Trielta Hills with all due haste.

The party found themselves standing on a quiet country lane with seemingly abandoned houses in view. Moving as quickly yet quietly as possible, they checked several houses and continued on toward the modest Greenbough estate upon the hill. Poor crafted trip-lines were discovered, but Vanira had little trouble disarming them. Finally, the group found themselves at the gates of the estate and were ushered inside upon mentioning they were here to help.

Lord Terrance Greenbough was overjoyed to have adventurers aiding the defense of his home against the dreaded naga raiders. Vormav, Kald, and Lance made a line back down at the gates, and the others arrayed behind them. Kald also volunteered to help with the two catapults of the estate. Warhorns announced the coming of the nagas, and come they did. The snakemen swarmed the wall, and did considerable damage to the defenders. Two Greenbough guardsmen went down in seconds. Lance took brutal punishment, but dished it right back to the snakes. Wave after wave were fought, and then the naga casters began raining down spells behind the walls. Thinking it was siege weapon fire at first, the group tried to return fire, but Bre'teas recognized it as the Weave. Vanira made short work of the casters, but then things went down hill. Bre'teas chaotic streak won out, and he deserted the group.

He didn't make it far before naga assassins got him, and his body needed rescuing. The ensuing minutes dragged on like hours as individual members of the team spread out and were picked off one by one. Miraculously Azorel and Jitsu remained standing, and managed to hold the line while the others recovered from their wounds. Tired of being on the defensive, it was decided to march out, but the last of the nagas had arrived. Larger than the others his thick scales were difficult to land meaningful blows against, but in the end he and his guards fell. The threat neutralized, the group set out making minor repairs and resting until beginning the long trip home the next day.

Rewards: Each participant received 2500 XP, or 2500 gold if lvl 30. Some healing supplies were found by searching nagas. In the aftermath of the assault, magic items were discovered on many corpses:
Vormav Blutklinge: Pirate Captain's Scimitar, Greater
Kald Blake: Caustic Longsword +3
Jitsu: Santoku Katana, Greater
Lance Renslin: Belt of Agility +3
Vanira Talamora: Biting Shortsword +3
Bre'teas Go'Qu: Enhanced Boots of Striding +3
Azorel: Boots of the Alert (Third Tier)

"Enemy Territory"

Demonologist Plot
Tuesday, July 05, 2011

Malandriel of the rangers of Doron Amar entered the chapel looking for Councilor Elenviel. He found Auriel with her husband, Valerius Rokranon. Upon reporting the finding of several murdered orcs not far from the settlement, he led the couple deep into the Wood so they could investigate. Auriel was troubled with an old familiar feeling, and Valerius recognized it as well. The mage was the more troubled of the two. As Malandriel blended into the forest to keep an eye out for trouble, Valerius and Auriel were beset by a portal that Valerius was able to collapse quickly, but not before some demons came out of it. By now Valerius was keen to get Auriel out of there, but the Councilor refused to leave without Malandriel who was now not answering her calling out.

The duo looked over the orcs and were surprised to find the body of a human woman amid the carnage. Valerius deduced that eldritch magics had destroyed everyone present. Auriel searched the woman and found an (un)holy symbol of Shar. While this explained the odd feelings the two had, it raised many more questions. Auriel also found a note while Valerius discovered a spell component pouch. At this point Malandriel came bursting through the trees with a squad of orcs on his tail. He and Auriel kept them at bay while Valerius weaved a spell of teleportation to take the group back to Doron Amar, where Auriel healed Malandriel.

Rewards: 1000 XP for both participants

"An Elemental Force"

Mini Event / Demonologist Plot
Wednesday, July 06, 2011

A sudden storm blew up north of Beregost one day, but what surprised Entresi Le'Moi, Bre'teas Go'Qu, and Azorel were air elementals that seemed to blow in with the storm. The storm moved out quickly, and they relaxed and spoke with a passing paladin. Elli joined the three men, and soon after Entresi noticed movement across the way. It turned out to be a small horde of goblins with more small elementals. The goblins were dispatched, and it was assumed the goblins had somehow learned to summon and control elementals. The quartet moved toward the nearby goblin-infested ruins to investigate.

Before getting to the ruins, they were astounded to find a strange portal with elementals of all types pouring out of it. Eventually the scenes of the inner planes through the constantly shifting portal changed to darker locales and even denizens of the lower planes came forth. Bre'teas decided to summon a celestial to see if it could help. The celestial was able to close the portal, but warned that the rift had been created by the violent clash of both the Weave and the Weave of the Dark Goddess'. He tasked the group with finding who could have created such a dangerous tear in the Realms. After the portal was closed, Elli deduced that the goblins must have merely seen the elementals and got delusions of grandeur of invading Beregost.

Rewards: All participants received 1000 XP or 1000 gold if lvl 30

"Four Fellas in the Corner Pocket"

Demonologist Plot
Wednesday, July 06, 2011

It was probably a mistake to venture into the Graypeaks that day. Dekon Diamondfist, Paus Nefzen, Damakos Rift, and Catam D'Argente chose to take on the famous balor up in the peaks. What they did not count on was the demonologist to be home that day. Rifts to the lower planes opened left and right, with many of both devils and demons attacking the four. They fought valiantly, but before they knew it found themselves somewhere completely different.

A desolate landscape with more rifts appeared before them. Paus realized the entire place was magical in some way. A nearby manse proved unhelpful when the front door turned out to be a void. The group made their way down a path, battling more monsters on the way as the ground began to shake. They encountered a spirit that Damakos tried to destroy by Turning. These four men were probably lucky Damakos was unsuccessful, as the ensuing conversation with the spirit revealed they were in one of the demonlogist's pocket planes. Damakos had heard of this man and urged caution. They also realized the spirit was elven, and she admitted her 'master' preyed upon elves, and that she was once a priestess of Sehanine Moonbow.

The spirit was willing to help, but needed a stone in order to get them back. This stone was obtained from one of the many denizens of the lower planes in the pocket plane. Upon returning the stone to the long-decayed remains of the spirit, she used the remainder of her power to sent them back to the Prime. The shattering of the pocket plane seemed to yield gems. The wary quartet of men returned to Baldur's Gate for some rest.

Rewards: 2000 XP or 2000 gold if lvl 30 for each participant. They also each took a diamond from the sundered pocket plane.

"Missing"

Mini Event
Thursday, July 07, 2011

Gold had been missing too long. Silver was rather distraught, and Kage went along to keep an eye on her. Several haunts were searched, and by the time they got to the old home Silver was too upset to notice the initial clues. It was Kage who found the tracks, and when the two followed them they discovered clues as to what happened, surmising that Gold's body was still somewhere down there. Evidence was found that suggested spells had been used, which was confirmed by the melted hinges on the door. After beating the door down, Silver and Kage found the charred corpse of Gold; carrying it back to Baldur's Gate so that their friend could be called back to life at the Temple of Tempus.

Rewards: The role-play. Finding and resurrecting a fallen comrade is a reward in itself.
