There should be Dancing...

Unread post by LeslieMS »

As the afternoon sun dwindled into late evening, a small group was gathering in Beregost... Seeming by chance, but perhaps it was fate. Among those gathered was a Elf whose feet were seldom still and a musician who was seldom without music... The combination lead to a suggestion that would soon bring both laughter and wonder.

The red-clad poet known by many variations of her name, and self titled as the Crimson Phoenix drew out a violin. Those gathered began to dance as music took footing in the streets of Beregost.
Soon the others began to join in, and a second minstrel, known as Juli to many, began to play along with Scarlett.
Such was the revelry that Headmaster Rhys even joined in the dancing. Bre, with some arcane tricks and trinkets only added to the amusement with his antics.
As the sun sat lazily on the horizon, a revelry that promised to last well into the night was well under way. Much of the sleepy village of Beregost dancing in the streets... if for not for any other reason than that there should be dancing...
Suddenly a great white figure strode through the crowd of dancers and musicians alike. Everyone blinked in surprise and followed after... Murmurs going up from the crowds... Talk of ghosts and magic... but no... most were certain of what they saw, as they followed it out of the village: A unicorn.

Overhead the moon was starting to rise, and stars began to dance above. At first they all wondered if their eyes had not played tricks as no one could find the creature. Still in a mood to play and dance, a waltz was hummed lightly... and there stood the creature thought to be a figment of a dream.

Drawn to the music and revelry the creature accepted the offer for more music. The two musicians smiled at each other, and began to play a melody for the unicorn.

And if the storm
Howls through our land
I'll be your shelter
If you'll be my light
And if the world
Should fall to winter
I'll be your warmth
If you'll be my light
And if the skies
Should cloud to darkness
I'll be your sun
If you'll be my light
The creature danced with them all for a time, before disappearing in a swirl of mist and light and thunder, leaving those assembled with a sense of warmth and peace... in awe. The music came to a close and all wondered at the magic of the night. The musicians thanked the dancers and the dancers thanked the musicians. Each treasured the sight they had beheld.

As the mist danced across the damp earth, and the moon danced high over head to a melody few would know and fewer still could hear, a poem was offered to honor the creature that had so honored them:
THE UNICORN AND THE LADY
There was dancing at the close of day
When a magnificent thing happened our way
The music the laughter could never compare
A Myth wished to dance, this the poet does swear
The moon danced high above their heads
When most dreamers asleep in soft beds
Gallant and white came the noble steed
Who shone in the starlight amid spirits freed
An angel did watch from between moonbeams
And the creature of legend faded into dreams
Silent we stood in awe and in wonder
The Unicorn vanished in a calming thunder
Under the moon light, wonder was chanced
Under the gentle night, in the mist ... The Lady Danced.

// THANK YOU EVERYONE who was a part of this tonight. I would love it if the rest of you could add what bits you will, or want... and screen shots if you have them. Sincere thank you to DM Wagner for the impromptu addition to our little dance party. I do think Julindra was right. Scarlett and Juli could not have performed better (several twenties tonight, the dice were generous) and likely never will perform that well again. //

Teo says, "I...don't...dance...ever!"

p.s. although I wish I where there! What a great write-up too Luna. The poem actually brought a tear to me eye...flying dirt from some fool dancer no doubt.

There is very little in life that is better for a tired soul then friends, dancing and laughter; tonight the elf was rewarded with all three. In the arms of her Dancing Knight she danced with heart felt laughter escaping her lips with every twirl he sent her on. She was amused and delighted that he seemed to have practiced and learned some new moves since their first dance at the campfire. Funny she thought to herself that it was that first dance that really kindled a strong friendship.

Her eyes while for the most part were on her dancing knight, to make sure she kept to his steps, also glanced about to watch the others. Councilor Rhys danced with the young Shadril while Bre'tens awkward "dance" made her laugh even more. His self-consciousness soon turned into a delightful, comical, and self hasted performance that none of them would likely ever forget. She was very pleased to see him enjoying himself and in such good spirits.

The laughter with the music of Red and Juli was contagious to those nearby. People stepped into the dance forgetting any troubles they had for a night. Magic of the music that was on it's own pleasantly intoxicating and only grew larger as it continued. The invisible musical tendrils reached out not just to the people in Beregost that night but touched and brought a most magical guest.

A unicorn graced them with its presence leading them out to the forest's edge and there it danced beside them in the most enchanting and magical night that even a bard's tale would fall short of ever capturing completely.

After parting her friends she skipped and danced her way to the inn in Beregost that she was staying in for the time being.
