Raising - The history of Thiago.

Prelude - The raising of the Sun

He was born in a cold night of winter. His mother was being chased by descendents of creatures from the abys. She gave birth to him in a dark alley, during a strong storm. She could not cry, she could not scream. She bleeds from many wounds, that she suffered from her aggressors. She delivers a boy, his ears look like hers, his father is unknown. He cries for a moment. Then he calms down.

The men with tail and horns find her. They complete what they have started. As the flaming fist enforces find her, it is too late. But in a corner, someone casts light. Like a miracle, with the power of Helm the baby is found. The officers do not know what to do. Who could rise that young man? They have taken him to the temple of Helm. A priest opens the door and, the entire story is told. The priest toke the boy in his arms, says noting, turns back and closes the door. At this moment the sun was raising.

The temple of Helm is calm, and the priests have just started their day. As usual, the morning prayers start just in time, just before the sunrise.
Strongly someone knocks on the door, disturbing the peace of that holy place.
- Please open the door.
- Who knocks – asks the priest.
- The Flaming Fist sir… we need your aid.
The priest opens the door with haste.
- Yes son, what do you need?
- We have found this boy good priest. Her mother was killed by a tiefling or more than one… I don’t know for sure. Apparently she had just given birth to him and luckily he was not found. We are still after the aggressors. I think the boy is an elf… look at his ears.
The priest just takes the baby.
- We will take care of him.
He approaches the other priests and tells what just passed.
…
- But he is a descendent from the celestials; we can’t just give him to a foster house like a common child.
- Yes but how can we raise a kid?
- We wont raise a kid… we will raise a holy man..
…
While they argue about what to do with the boy his eyes start to glow looking on the statue of Helm and he casts light again…

- I think we have an answer… - says one the priests – we shall raise him…

During all his childhood and youth Thiago was never treated as a common child. The priests in the temple of Helm aimed his education in their goal to make of that kid a paladin. He learned the ways of the paladins from many skilled warriors and also has always been alert to the ways of the divine spells.

Yet he never had a master in the arts of swordsmanship, time and practice and the favor of Helm made him a valuable man in combat. From the priests he acquired proper skills to become a master in healing, and also few spells for protection.
He also, had many contact with books and languages, what made him a knowledgeable man. Time has passed and the paladin was finally ready to start his journey along the Sword Coast. Kill wolves and retrieve some stolen goods to the Merchant League were his first acts as a paladin near Baldurs Gate.

Additional Information

Gear: Normally walks with a silver chain mail covered by a white shirt with a symbol of helm. He also uses a silver cloak and covers his head with a hood that conceals part of his hair and face. When he removes he hood a silver circlet is reveled. He has a sword sheathed in his belt and his shield concealed under his cloak. When in combat heavy armor is his preference, but since it makes a long time that Thiago does engage in a thought fight his armor in not known. It is clear, thought, that his old armor is now with his son, Thiago II
Jewelry: One gold and simple ring in his left hand and a ring with a green stone in his left hand.
Habits/hobbies: The paladin has been spending a long time in the library of the temple of Helm and Torm reading about undeads, devils and demons and all kind of abominations in Toril. He also spends some time taking care of his swords.
General Health: Divine healthy with the grace of Helm
Favorite Drink: Elvish wine and ale occasionally.
Weaknesses: Thiago was educated by human priests and his week points come from this fact. Since he was the only aasimar in his neighborhood the kids used to make fun of his ears and every achievement he had was credited to his ascendance. He also didn´t had formal training in swordmanship and he knows his fighting style is not perfect.

More about Thiago…

The final result of Thiago’s education was a perfect shape for a powerful paladin, at least on the point of view of the Priests of Helm. Their efforts to make him a wise man were focused on many hours of study on libraries, since he learned how to read around 6 years old. When he turned fourteen, he occasionally was sent to Helm’s Hold where he trained with skilled paladins and priests.
All those efforts turned Thiago into a wise man, who can handle well his sword. Although sometimes his style of fighting can be a little more aggressive than technical, using his shield for both bashing and defending. He is also quite good with divine spells. Actually much better than most paladins and has a great knowledge about his foes.
Not a man of many words he speaks only what is essential. Pondered in his actions he always thinks about the consequences of his acts never rushing into battle unprepared. He is not the kind who will sit on taverns to tell stories. Yet he will never leave someone hurt on roads or battles. Normally seen using his cloak and hood, he speaks with a warm and comforting voice. Normally he hides his eyes in conversation, but when he looks into someone eyes they see a pair of green and deep ones. It is not clear what makes his presence so pleasant, may be his eyes of just his paladin aura. But he inspires the ones among him in or out the battle field.

“Rise Thiago, Knight of the Radiant Heart”


It is well known among the Sword Coast that the Most Noble Order of The Radiant Heart is one of most respected and influent organizations in Fearun. The glory of these knights becomes evident for anyone who has ever seen their halls in Amn. The huge statues of Torm and Helm inside and outside the shining marble floor and the columns reveals the prestige and wealthy the Order.
But not of this can be compared to the courage sacrifice and acts of the members of the order. Names such as Gram the Mouse, Sir Wediyer are know of every paladin and told to be legends all along Toril.
To answer a call for justice Thiago have volunteered to become one of the Radiant Heart Knights. He personally looked for Arkeine Half Orken, who was recognized by his shining sword. Thiago asked for a place among the knights of the Radiant Heart and in the same night he was initiated as a full flagged knight of the Order by the words of Sir Arkaine in during the sunrise…

Just after his initiation in the Most Noble Order of The Radiant Heart, Thiago faced one the greatest challenges in his life. Arkaine, have always been traveling and there were no active Knights in the Chapter of Baldur´s Gate. The paladin realized that he was now the responsible to keep alive the flame of Radiant Heart in the region. In that time he was very dedicated to his martial skills and his presence along the roads was very common. Although his task was hard the Gaze of Helm shined upon him. He observed acts of justice and honor of three young paladins and made them squires of the order. They were all young and full of spirit. In few time the name of the Radiant Heart speeded along the region again. The good had a reason for hope and the evil a reason to fear. Among the squires was Sir Aethor, who later became the former Knight Commander of the Chapter and now leads the Chapter of Cromyr.

Nine Years In Tethyr

The history of Thiago in Baldur´s Gate is deeply related with the recent events in the Order of The Radiant Heart. Until complete eighteen years old the paladin never left the city. Eventually wandered of the walls and on the farmlands but never gone far.
When he completed eighteen years the priests of Helm demanded for a decision.

“My son, -said one of the priests - you have grown strong and wise, and we are proud of you. But now it is your time to choose our own path. You may leave if you wish have a common life as a normal person. But you are not and you know that. You are devoted to duty and you have Helm in your heart. You are more than welcome to stay here with us and become a priest of Helm or you may choose the path of Paladinhood. It is your call.”

He had no doubt. While always grateful to the priests of the temple who raised him, he always admired the devotion of the Holy Warriors. To improve his skills he decided to serve on Tethyr as a Squire to a Knight of the Champions Vigilant, Sir Michell Orsten. Obviously, his trip and training was sponsored by the church of Helm. Thiago always balanced well his training in the martial skills and his studies about his foes and the land, this came much more by the priests influence than from his Master Paladin. Spending nine years there he learned to handle well a sword and several weapons while improved his divine skills.

Thiago was still in Tethyr when he met two of the most important persons in his life. It was his first year in those lands, both him and Sir Michell Orsten, where hunting for a necromancer who was told to be in the Forest of Wealdath. Everything was calm and peaceful in their path but both had keen eyes, the information was trustable and they knew that the necromancer was close. Time proved they were right. While riding their horses they saw far away a group of zombies attacking few elves that were passing thought the trade way. A battle of worthy of tales started. Sir Orsten, start turning the undeads and few zombies fell. Both paladins engaged the fight.

They figured that lots of elves were contaminated by the diseases from the zombies, but one. Illanelle Tyilyce was a former member of a cell of the Eldreth Veluutrhra who deceased when denied to kill a human in his first mission. He was fighting bravely and alone against the zombies. Thiago realized it and casted over the elf´s sword the bless weapon spell. With the two paladins and the blessed sword of Illane the fight fast turned to the side of the living ones. The zombies fell quickly. At the end, both paladins used their remove disease skills to heal the other elves. For they have saved many of their kin they found fell under the grace of the elves and therefore assigned by the order to take part on final mission to bring justice to the necromancer. With their new alleys it became an easy task… with them was Illanelle and a priestess of Helm named Ellynelha. The elf and Thiago developed a long and lasting friendship and the priestess is the mother of his son, Thiago II.
