Slassa Evron; The Arcane Hungerer: Introduction

It had been a good while since Slassa left her home and kin behind. While she missed the delightful conversations she shared with her friends and mentors (among other things) there was a certain unparalleled joy to be had off the wanderlust that had slowly grown within. More so was all that she was seeing away from that small small world she was born in.

The drow, despite their typical haughty behavior and obvious lust to see her flayed alive, had a beauty and arcane affinity that made them bearable most of the time. Indeed, they had done well for a race that was whipped by it's so-called surface cousins. Surviving and even prospering in the Underdark was just a syptom of their worth. So long as they were appeased, they typically tolerated her existence. So long as they were pleased, both she and they had much to gain and little to lose.

The duergar on the other hand, greedy and savage as they were, had a respectable honesty about them she couldn't help but smile at. Indeed, they were greedy, cruel, rude, and often ungrateful; but they were honest about it. There was a comfort to be had in such brutal honesty and certainty... one often overlooked at by the other savage races, no doubt. She liked them... and so long as she had the coin and worth, they would probably enjoy her presence as well. She just needed to keep an eye out for the slavers was all...

The svirfs were, by far, the least infuriating of the savages. Although they were reclusive and even evasive most of the time, a few had proven as civil and trustworthy as the best of her own. The svirf Aether had, after all, given her an unusually warm welcome into the city that had given her a good idea on how to survive, operate, and benefit off the city and it's inhabitants. As she expected, it was all about appeasement and civility.

The others she had come across were more or less difficult to digest. The ilithids, beholders, and other races that had gathered in this city were more or less a collection of misfits that acted as a necessary evil in the form of a lifeline. Originally she had intended to keep her heritage a secret... but as soon as one of her own pridefully bragged about his glorious, incomparable bloodline, she knew the deception was unecessary. Some of the others who wandered from the home cities were obviously not interested in keeping that slither of truth in the dark where it belonged. On one hand, she was relieved that she would not have to lie to her teeth every time someone asked why a human was down here (though there were many in Sshamath already). Another part of her was afraid. What would become of the home cities if one of these undisciplined half-wits revealed the secrets of the fissures? Would hunters hungering for their souls fixate themselves on her solely for her arcane affinity?

Only time would tell. For now, this city would be a pool of knowledge and secrets waiting to be pilfered like a vein of ore. A prelude to her trip to the surface, where the famous Keep of Candles beckoned to her like a mountain of gold to a cluster of dragons. Until then, she would sharpen her arcane craft in the dark tunnels she had grown to love. Shar be willing, she would bring back a great many secrets back to her home city by the time she was done with her travels.
