To the most esteemed Radiant Knights and Knights of the Radiant Heart in Athkatla,

I greet you in the name of Torm and wish you well. Though I wish my correspondence was for fairer reasons, a matter has come to my attention that I believe requires your assistance.

We of the Baldur's Gate chapter of the Order have just recently become aware of the sacking of the village of Markhold in Amn. The Helmites here in Nashkel inform me that this occurred some three months hence. The claims are that a contingent of mercenaries of the Flaming Fist, well known to be the soldiers de facto of Baldur's Gate were seen committing this heinous act. As you my brothers well know, tensions are at an all time high between these two nations. A blow such as this, if it truly was done with the authorization of the Dukes, is certainly going to be considered an act of war.

Whether or not the Flaming Fist is truly responsible for this act is the purpose of this letter. I believe further investigation is neccessary. It is my opinion that this act could have been perpetrated by any numbers of factions seeking to discredit the Fist and mount further tensions between Amn and Baldur's Gate. I ask your aid in this, my brothers and sisters. As none of us want war between our two states I believe the Radiant Heart to be ideal in leading an investigation into what truly happened in Markhold.

Three months is a long time, but a skilled tracker or ranger might be able to find clues remaining. I loyally await your reply. Please send any letters to the temple of Helm in Nashkel. I can have the priests contact me from there.
