Base Class & Proposed Development: Fighter all the way, unless he gets a little more pious or somehow involved with a priest of Loviatar, in which case I might go Blackguard.
Habits/Hobbies: Alex doesn't have too much hobbies, though fighting is surely one of them. He does not care if it's in a full scale war, a small skirmish or a Fist-fight between just two men - He just loves that rush of adrenalin when two or more men (or women) test themselves against each other.
He also sees fighting as the ideal way to serve Loviatar: Either he wins and makes his opponent suffer horrible pain, or he suffers it himself. Both ways pleasing his maiden equally. Another habit resulting from his worship of Lviatar is that he despises needless killing, because every dead man or woman can no longer suffer pain and thus is lost to his maiden.
He can be quite friendly and charming when first met - he just loves making friends. While getting to know a person, he is always searching for weak points and hidden fears though. And once gained, he will use that knowledge at one point to hurt his new aquaintances, beit physcally or mentally - because friendly as he may be (or seem), he's a sadistic man first and foremost.
Alex is loyal beyond reason. Not to his friends or gold or anything like that. He is loyal to his contract. Whoever has Alex on their payroll can ask him anything and he will do it without a second thought or a moment of hesitation.

Background:
Alex hails from Berdusk, a city east of Baldur's Gate, located by the river Chionthar. He was born into a family of mercenaries and soldiers, so it was only natural that he would become one as well. At the age of 18, he joined the "Armored Antlers", a small mercenary company located in Berdusk. After a few years, when his contract ran out, he knew he wanted more. But on a larger scale and with more prestige involved. There was only way to go: west. To the city of Baldur's Gate, to join the Flaming Fist - Faerun's largest and most powerful company of sellswords.
After joining the Flaming Fist, he soon realised, that he had pictured it wrong. He did not fight in wars or large scale battles - he had to guard the coastway and the city gate. And he hated every moment of it. So as soon as an opportunity presented itself, he had sworn to take it. The opportunity came in the form of an operation in Chult. He signed up and left The swordcoast for a year, serving the Flaming Fist in the jungles far far to the south - And he loved it.
When the operation in Chult ended, it meant going back to duty on the coastway - a nightmare. So as soon as the Fist was hired for Chult again, Alex signed up. This time for almost two years. When the two years were almost over, word in the barracks was that this was supposed to be the last trip to Chult for a while. And going back to duty as a roadwarden? No way!
Since his contract ended anyway, he just didn't sign anew and decided to travel back to the swordcoast on his own. Several small employments, like helping out on a ship or protecting a caravan through the great desert of Calimshan followed. Until one day he was back at the swordcoast. Without any contract to fullfill, he tried himself as a freelancer for a while, until he got in touch with the Hellstorm crew and now swings his blade for them.

Goals:
Alex doesn't have too much goals. He wants to fight, drink and spread the gifts of his maiden in its numerous forms. And that's about it.

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:
As seen in the biography part, he served a good while in the Flaming Fist. Now he's in a situation where he's opposing them - being a pirate and all.

He serves Loviatar more openly than he did before (while being a member of the Fist, he had to hide it). If a priest of the maiden of pain came up to him, he could easily gain great influence on Alex - who is quite the pious man.
