Background:

Gwyneth was born to Uthgardt parents of the Black Lion tribe, near the Great Glacier. Both of whom have long since passed on. Her mother at childbirth, and her father died of sickness during a particularly harsh winter, Gwyneth is was only in her thirteenth year. It was after this moment that Gwyneth migrated herself to Damara, the nearest city-sized settlement. She lived mostly on the streets as a child, gaining many skills, including the understanding of thieves cant as well as the ability to defend herself. Her Uthgardt heritage always showed through, strength and natural resiliency always came quickly. She lived this way for another twelve years.

In her last years in Damara she had become a farm hand, labouring in exchange for a warm meal and a bed in a grain storehouse. That was, until the lich  Zhengyi appeared near Damara. Following his appearance things went very badly in Damara, the blood stone mines spawned a massive creature, which subsequently killed most of Damaras miners. Subsequently people began to starve, as the area was hit by the Wolf Winter. Lycanthropes and evil Dire Wolves began to constantly use the streets of Damara as their hunting grounds during the night. Gwyneth was forced to attempt to escape the city. She headed out during the day, making a trek with as much food and supplies as she could steal. She never intended to return.

Heading south, she was waylaid almost immediately by a group of Thayan slavers, who had heard rumour of Damara's weakened state, and had come to prey on escaping refugees just like her. Despite being starved and exhausted, Gwyneth managed to kill one of their Thayan Knights before being brought down by magical means. Once in Thay, her physical prowess and natural strength earned her a place as a gladiator. Life was brutal, and every day was a bloody fight for survival. Not every battle ended in victory, she lost her left eye in a fight against a brutal tiefling slave, named Zsmath Malkur, a highly valued fighter and devout of Kossuth. The battle was brutal, she managed to save her life only by breaking Zsmaths leg with a last ditch attack, using a hammer.
Later on, in the holding cells. The two became aquaintances, and eventually very close. He taught her the language of infernal, and of the primoridal Kossuth, seeing in her a keen mind and intellect that was under appreciated. The two used this knowledge to have secret conversations between each other for months.

Their Thayan captors saw this bond between the two strong fighters which eventually lead to them being pitted against each other, in a fight to the death. A fight in which Gwyneth came out alive, but her spirit and will was broken. This was all they needed, one to survive, the other to fall. Now they had their strongest, with not the will to rile against her captors. She was then sent toward the Sword Coast to be given to the newly formed Enclave within Baldurs Gate. The need for such a strong warrior and servant was great. She was branded there, with arcane markings of control and summoning, and as with all gladiators given to wizard masters, she became a protector and guardian to her masters. A strikingly intelligent sword and shield, able to channel her battle lust to strength in combat against the enemies of the enclave. A strong blade to their magic.

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:

Despite her masters, Gwyneth is not inherently evil, and is loathe to kill if she does not need to. Though at the same time, she greatly values physical strength and intelligent tactics in a fight. Her will is not strong, but her mind is keen. She remembers everything, and harbours a deeply repressed hatred for her Thayan masters, one which is now often redirected into a fearsome battle rage against her enemies. But she never forgets who truely killed Zsmath.

She also has a fearsome hatred in general for the Undead, liches in particular.
