Yeah, I'm going to be a lot more aggressive toward uncovered gray orcs from now on. (unless I'm a half orc^^)

Keep in mind Grey Orcs are a native underdark race, and are not actually native to the surface, and are very uncommon up there.

Re: Make Orcs KOS?
They really need to be KoS.
They are always hanging out at the campfire, chit chatting with elves and halflings and humans and Morninglords of Lathander, etc.
It's really lame. And if anyone starts treating them like an orc, they get yelled at rather than the orc.
"This is Far'Tface, he is a nice civilized orc. You shouldn't be such a racist, you should LEAVE!"
Where as the person who is actually in character, and just fought and killed on sight a crap load of orcs a few hundred yards away in the Woods of Sharp Teeth should be able to run up from behind and use Improved Knockdown to toss his ass in the campfire and hack him to bits while he tries to put out the flames and everyone should be lifting me on their shoulders as the hero who saved them from the Orc Spy.
Just sayin.

You are free to treat Gray Orcs as you see fit. Call them out. Harass them. Lure them away from the campfire and begin proper PvP rules. Yes, Grays should be challenged more often.logandoug wrote:They really need to be KoS.

But, just remember: Grays are tough bastards and shouldn't be messed with unless you want a beating!

Considering my character's ideology of "everyone starts with a blank slate for him, unaffected by prejudice" , I treat orcs with neutrality, of coure their blank slate gets dirty faster and shiny slower than say, a non-dark elf's or human's.

Do you treat the orcs in the Woods of Sharp Teeth with neutrality? Or do you kill them as quickly as you can?

Re: Make Orcs KOS?
so many rules restricting player just so people dont get butthurt.
Geez pvp doesnt even actually make you lose any xp. So what is wrong with killing grey orc on sight? If people dont want to play a race that should be hunted down by practically every goody then they can play another one of them pansy elves.
Though my biggest thing with orc is not that they arent kill on sight is just how many good orc there is. The hells are they doing? Arent this the same stuff as good drow Drizzt wannabe? IM pretty sure most grey orc are evil, worship orcish deity which are also evil.
Nope most of them are good adventurer and probably dont worship any orchish deity.

Actually, not true.Managarn wrote:Nope most of them are good adventurer and probably dont worship any orchish deity.
The Grays that are evil Orc-god-worshipping-true-to-their-kind are smart enough NOT to hang out at the FAI campfire.
I'd worry more about all the Red Wizards running around.....

I try to, i usually try to get around with invisibility, but should they attack, it will incriminate the entire tribe, just like how my character hates the samarachians for their xenophobicness.

Re: Make Orcs KOS?
A very nice post. Pvp aside. Perhaps some things.
1. Grey orcs not allowed in bg or candlekeep, think that's been stated? Makes sense to me rply. Lol I don't think they would allow such in. It would go over like a minotaur in a crystal shop.
2. Npc guards would require removal of helmets, hoods, and masks. Is this scriptable like the weapon equiped script? If not perhaps add it to bg laws and have DMs make official ruling so metagaming npc guards can be handled appropriately.
3. Grey Orcs are orcs.. an elf or dwarf would more then likely kill an orc. Just because a player is playing it should not change the fact that a full blooded orc is a monster race. It should be viewed imo just like a druid in a shaped form, or a warlock as a horned devil. If you see it, rply if your character would try to kill it.. then they would. Just because you don't say, "hey leave or I kill u" doesn't mean u are not rping. I see it as the responsibility of the player, playing a grey orc to be aware that if they are found out to be a grey orc that they more then likely are going to get attacked.
Just my view, but I love all these ideas and viewpoints here. KOS wise.. I dislike KOS its more ooc then anything. Just causes a mess. PvP wise.. I hate pvp though I spent 4 yrs on arena servers. I like the peace and quiet.
hope the above help if not GROUP HUGGLES!

Re: Make Orcs KOS?
A script would be great, but I think there was some issue with determining which helmets and hoods were open faced versus hiding features. If that is the case, and it cannot be scripted, could we at least post some "laws" inside of BG, like they are for FAI and Candlekeep?gfya1369 wrote:A very nice post. Pvp aside. Perhaps some things.

Why? I ran into a group the other day inside of BG. Druid with dire boar, everyone had masks or full helms and included what I am fairly certain was an orc, but could possibly have been a half-orc - I couldn't tell because of the helm. After ignoring or zoning in and out of buildings to avoid RP, they finally said that since it was not scripted it wasn't a rule. (I sent a DM message, but don't think one was on at the time.) I thought I could just point to the "laws of Baldur's Gate" sign, but I couldn't find one inside the wall so I just left. (To be fair, I later learned there was at least a partial language issue, but the point of this post is that the mentality of 'if its not scripted, it doesn't exist' is out there.) If there isn't hostility to orcs (among others) built into the NPC's its hard to expect players to follow up - especially if they don't read the forums or the signs in game.
Would it be possible to / does anyone think this will help:
(1) Give the Fist (and Temple Guards) a script to detect gray orcs and at least give verbal warnings...'get out', 'leave the city/area at once'. They don't have to go hostile or arrest them, but at least there is fair warning if a DM comes in to take action. This would reflect not only the law of the land, but also the feelings of the populace with respect to orcs. I don't think that many gray orcs would end up hanging around the FAI campfire when the Fist is constantly harassing them (even if they don't attack them). It would also give players an accurate depiction of how the law addresses gray orcs.
(2) Script merchants in the areas where gray orcs are banned from buying/selling with gray orcs. They shouldn't be there anyway, and I doubt that Maltz would want to risk arrest for dealing with them just to buy some tanglefoot bags and banded mail armor.
