Northern Troll AC

I was fighting my way past the trolls in the north with Scorching ray, and noticed something exceptionally odd. I would miss if my attack roll was too high.

The first attack roll on a series of scorching rays rolled for a total of 42: Miss.
The second atack roll in the same scorching ray rolled for a total of 38: Hit
The thrid attack roll in the same scorching ray rolled for a total of 39: Hit

Any orbs and lesser orbs cast at the trolls almost invariably miss, regardless of attack roll.

Excuse me if I'm wondering WTH is going on with the Trolls' Touch AC.

That might be the same issue warlocks have?

They might have deflect arrow, and if your holding a melee weapon if causes the first range touch attack to fail (or something like that).

Maybe someone else can chime in here.

We really need a sticky somewhere for these questions that get asked every month! Luna is correct, it is because the trolls have the feat deflect arrows. If you have a weapon equipped and cast a touch attack at an opponent with deflect arrows, they will deflect the attack as though you were using a missile weapon.
