Background:
Meju Gendt arrived in Baldur's Gate aboard a Waterdeep galleon, a replacement reportedly ordered for the Flaming Fist. The journey was without incident, and Meju finds himself a stranger in these more southern lands (not that he had travelled far outside of Waterdeep during his days).
He had served almost ten years for the city of Waterdeep when he completely lost the taste for it during the Night of the Temple Fires--about two years ago. It was one thing to stand against enemies from the harbor without, or even to defend against the violent criminal element from within the walls. But the sight of the temples aflame was somehow ... obscene, even by Waterdeep standards, at least to Meju Gendt. The event scarred his psyche and soured his spirit a bit. About that time, in the Year of the Saddle, he made the decision to pack up, leave the city behind and strike out for some solitude, reflection and adventure.
It took him a while to work out the details: settle debts and return favors among his few friends, disperse what little property and furnishings he'd gathered on a Watchman's pay, and secure his passage on a southbound ship. But patiently work it out he did. Now, onward toward adventure!
Goals:
Explore this new city and the southern regions.
Invent the world's greatest crossbow.
Make enough money to establish a specialized smithy and settle down.
Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:
Gendt's parents are moderately successful shopkeepers, and Meju learned to study languages there.
Gendt has been known to take a bribe on watch here or there in order to 'look the other way.'
