Improved Crit Glitch?
So I'm wondering if there's a glitch or if I'm misunderstanding. Is my improved critical (quarterstaff) glitched? Or does it just not apply with Flurry of Blows or something?

I don't know myself.
If anyone knows, I guess you have permission to post here.
It might be good to ask this on the bioware nwn2 forum as well.

Re: Improved Crit Glitch?
Quarterstaff critical range is 20, so i guess improved crit for quarterstaff is 19-20. So no critical on a 18.

Re: Improved Crit Glitch?
As a quarterstaff has a threat range of 20/x2, doubling that would be 19-20/x2, not 17-20. That 17-20 is an example with a longsword.

Re: Improved Crit Glitch?
The crit range you show is the one from the exemple that uses a longsword which is 19-20 by base and then become a 17-20 with the feat.
Staff are 20 so i assume the range is doubled meaning it now becomes 19-20 hence why your 18 wasnt a crit.

The quarter staff has a base crit range of 20, so with improved crit feat, it becomes 19-20.
You rolled an 18, so you didn't crit. Swing harder!!!!

Re: Improved Crit Glitch?
Quarterstaves normally have a crit range of '20' only. So doubling that crit range from one (1) to two (2) would make 19's or 20's a critical threat. The example is for a longsword, which has a larger initial crit range per the example.

Re: Improved Crit Glitch?
I think it is working.
From what I recall, critical threats only happen on a natural roll, your attack bonus doesn't help. When you roll to confirm the crit, then all your attack bonuses help because you just need to hit the target's AC.
Quarterstaff normally only crits on a 20/x2. Improved critical will change that to 19-20/x2. You need to roll a natural 19 or 20 to threaten for a critical hit. In your screenshot, the roll you highlighted was 18+attack bonuses, therefore not a threat for a critical.
If that's not how it works then I don't know.

Re: Improved Crit Glitch?
I followed your suggestion to try the pther forum and I got an answer.
Improved Critical IS working. A quarterstaff's base critical threat is 20/x2. Improved crit bumped it to 19-20.

Re: Improved Crit Glitch?
The quoted part is the example for a longsword.
For Quarterstaff, the critical range is: "20/x2." It means that in normal conditions the weapon will only score a critical hit with a roll of a 20.
With the feat, Quarterstaff's critical range becomes "18-20/x2."
Thus, while you were close, it was not enough to score a critical hit.

Re: Improved Crit Glitch?
A lot of blunt weapons hit critically on 20, one of which is the quarterstaff. So the Improved Critical feat doubles that range to 19-20. That's why your 18 rolls aren't getting a threat roll.

Re: Improved Crit Glitch?
I think Quarterstaff only crits on a 20. So if you have imp.crit - quarterstaff feat it should crit on a 19 or 20 (double the original threat range). Unless you're also a quarterstaff Weapon Master, those numbers look right.

A staff has a crit range of 20 to start with, improve crit only doubled the range to 19-20. They use a longsword as an example in the feat which has a 19-20 to start with.

Re: Improved Crit Glitch?
Quarterstaff has a 20/x2 critical effect, the Improved Critical feat doubles this so it becomes a 19-20/x2. Do you score crits on 19s?
I thought you couldn't use Flurry of Blows with anything but Kamas and Unarmed Attacks? My monk disables FoB when equipping a Quarterstaff.

Re: Improved Crit Glitch?
A quarterstaff wielded by a char with imp crit will have a 19-20 range.
