RP XP - Player or DM distrubuted?

A burning question has been floating around my head, and fear that I'm not doing my part socially is getting the better of me.

When I see, in my combat log,
RP XP received
24XP
Is this a result of a DM giving the XP, or is it something that can be granted via players?

The main reason I ask is in the event it IS player provided, I would like to know how. This way I can start providing it to players in instances where RP is done well.

Actually, the RP XP is an automated script. Although DMs can and do give out RP XP.

If the DM hand out XP awards, it won't say "RP XP received" - just tell you how much you've gotten.

As mentioned, the RP XP received message comes from an automated script, it's very very random to prevent abuse, but it's a nice incentive =)

I've had this same question. How does the script actually work. Cuz a group of us did some RP trying to lower a dwarf down a hole and we petitioned a GM to see if they could work up something for us at the bottom. One of our party members got like 1000RPEX, while most of us got around 100. Is there a reason why that player would receive so much more when we were all part of the adventure?

The RP XP script doesn't give out very much xp when it gives it out.
