There seems to be a plague of this going on on the server. I'm talking about someone dying, and then sending an OOC tell to one of their friends asking for a res.
In fact, recently it's gotten so bad that people are admitting to it on the forums, and even defending their actions as somehow NOT metagaming. People have even gone so far as to claim DM's are OK with it!!
So my first question is a dumb one: Can we get an official ruling on this?
My second question is: can we add this to the server rules officially? I realize it shouldn't HAVE to be spelt out this plainly, but evidently it does. Take a look at this thread if you don't believe me: http://www.bgtscc.net/viewtopic.php?f=1 ... 1&start=30
Bottom of page 3, stevebarracuda is arguing that this kind of behavior is both allowed and supported by the DM's. And I've seen others arguing for the same in other threads too.

Sending tells to friends to pick up your corpse is indeed metagaming. If caught you could easily lose more xp then you where trying to save.

Re: Sending tells to avoid the Death xp penalty
Spamming people that you do not know for a rez or any other ooc info is highly illegal and punishable with either level loss or a temporary ban after the worst warning.
If it is between friends its commonsense that we would not be told, so we do not have the means to detect the OOC nature of the request. The sharing of Metainformation is nearly impossible to track if between trusted parties especially if they are using third party instant chat software/applications. So if it is private it doesn't make it right, but there is no definitive way we can catch the perpetrators unless someone decides to leak the information to the DM team.
This has happened several times, with a few of these requesters asking for rez's from "so-called friends" only to be turned into to us with detailed screenshots of the offense. In this case we have evidence and we will proceed with delivering consequences of said illegal actions.
It is not a matter of skipping the death penalty in so far as the harassing aspect of the request. It is generally rude to send anonymous tells to other players who you do not have any affiliation with in or out of character, for requests. It is also harassment if they refuse and the requester keeps insisting. It is common courtesy to leave others out of your business and it is at your own risk should you engage in this activity with other parties, in the hopes that they do not TURN YOU IN.
FYI, from time to time we also reward the snitches when they send you to us.... So don't be a fool, or we will be having a very unpleasant talk very soon.
As far as AFK'ing in the fugue... The fugue is not like any other place in the server. There is a condition that sends you there and a penalty that gets you out of there. It is the same as being locked up in a fist jail for hours. These are zones that are meant to be "time out" areas, so the player can reflect on what they did wrong tactically in the scenario that landed them into these areas.
We want players to take a break, if you are in jail or fugued it's because you broke a law and being isolated gives a player an opportunity to slow down and think about what you did that got you there. Yes, it means you can go afk to wait for someone but you have a legitimate reason to be afk in the fugue than elsewhere in the module. For one, you will loose XP if you leave the fugue on your own volition... the second would be immersion breaking.
Some people like Charraj, live in the fugue when he is dead because he doesn't beleive in talking to myrkul EVERY TIME HE DIES. He plays permadeath rules by doing so which is why he is given cred. This is the same with players like Breteas, who was assassinated and waited 3 weeks for someone to find his toon's body through RP not OOC methods in order to play his toon again. So, if you think these dudes are acting like bitches because they want to avoid a tiny XP hit, think again.
They do it for the validity of their character because they are playing on a whole other level than most that come here. Which is why hmm... charraj was the head dm of this module?? maybe?? Some people still beleive that RP can be taken to a new level and don't just treat this as another MMORPG.... They have perhaps "loftier or higher standards" when it comes to their characters and their IC deaths.
That is why they get props because they do something not to prevent loss or maximize gains like some people here think this game is all about. Hardly, they do it because they want to up the challenge level for themselves and I rather have one of them AFK doing that than another slot open for a douchebag who rather exploit the system and their fellow players until we catch up with them and give them what they deserve.

Re: Sending tells to avoid the Death xp penalty
my bad, since making this I've learned that it actually IS in the server's rules:
PS: Wouldn't admitting that you do this on the forums count as "evidence"? Much less proudly admitting to it and trying to defend it as a legitamate action when it is EXPLICITLY against the server rules?
but considering the attitude of certain players regarding this, there deffinetly needs to be some cracking down. at the very least people should be worried/ashamed about PUBLICLY ADMITTING to metagaming like this one the forums. Some arer actually calling this "rp". Seriously? I'd be all for a crackdown on those players.16. No Metagaming! - Metagaming is the use of knowledge not lawfully gained by a character in game.
-> Such as but not limited to the following examples:
1. Using the name over someones head as a name tag, until you meet that person in character, you do not know their name.
2. Sending a tell to a friend who was not with you at the time of your death, to come to your location and raise you from the dead.
3. Using information that you learned on character 1, and playing character 2 and using said information not lawfully gained on character 2.

Re: Sending tells to avoid the Death xp penalty
Admitting what? That they may or may not have asked for a raise to a friend? What would you have us do? Ask their friend to backstab them and sell them down the river to us? Would they even have evidence of this happening even if it did?
Without evidence of the activity being committed (screenshots, chat logs, DM eyewitness) there is no case.

That's what happened to Cairn. No one found his body before the server reset.TheVoid wrote:Some people like Charraj, live in the fugue when he is dead because he doesn't beleive in talking to myrkul EVERY TIME HE DIES. He plays permadeath rules by doing so
I don't think anyone ever got to know him.
