No Resting Areas

Unread post by Eviloth »

I have a little issue with these "no resting areas". They aren't consistent. I know the argument for them is because they are to help challenge the player and make it harder. Which is fine, but shouldn't that be the point across the board and across the levels?

My recommendation would if the maps are still going to be no resting, to at least have a rest spot location on the map. Or utilize the player's survival skill and allow them to rest if they roll a high survival check.

because I don't really know the difference of why you can rest in a tunnel infested with goblins compared to not being able to rest in a tunnel infested with driders.

Maybe it was done becaue Driders are more dangerous? I think you can rest in the first part of Drider zone though. Or maybe I am remembering it wrong.

This is where though we have to take back our characters to like 2 or 3 level and those goblins were very hard as well.

Yeah, if the gobbies near Beregost hurt ya bad you have to go all the way to the FAI to rest. Very annoying.

Not true.

Agreed, but the resting spots on the Lion's Way map are a long way from the transition. My advice is just not to go that way if you can't handle the Goblins.

TBH I don't see any need to be logical on this. The more (seemingly) random nature makes it more challenging, which is good. And RL isn't logical, as any fule kno.

No rest areas are normally used to make dungeon crawls more challenging. And it can be used to great effect.

Making exterior areas "no rest zones" doesn't work quite so well. Some of the most dangerous areas, you can rest freely ine, while some of the most tranquil ones, you can't - and then the resting spots are sometimes in places which doesn't make sense (like north of Beregost where you can rest in the middle of the area by the statue, which happens to be in the middle of "spawn-country")

It's about personal preference, of course, but I like exterior areas to be fully restable. You have a good overview of the place and it's not like there are monsters approaching behind corners like in dungeons.

Well, in any case for certain players, that statue indeed makes it restable!

(Druids, rangers, clerics of Mielliki and those players whom are part of Vukodlak's storyline (assuming everyone's a similar affliction of being unable to rest without some holy presence.))

There is a resting spot on the goblin map - upper right corner, in the middle of the mining rails and stuff up there.

True that, I even think Nomster was working on an IC book that would display resting areas/monsters. This spot was quoted. Hmm, Since Nomster is AWOL I might do the same thing. (would even be fitting since Hoihe got the Tour-Guide title. Finally he'd do something useful to the community as whole  )

IG book, IC style sold for a few hundred/thousand gold. Either steve's Jon Smythe or Candlekeep will get some RP from it.

You can also rest just left of the cave, near the campfire, and the shrine across the river.

This whole thing about non-rest exterior areas, is that a test thing or permanent?

Its temporary I think. Just not much of a priority to work on right now. I think Leafsmoker was going to redo the surface resting but he's absent at the moment.
