Background:
Hamar was born in Suzail, the capital city of Cormyr and spent most of his life there. His father and grandafther were both members of the Purple Dragons, the famous military of Cormyr that were renowned for their discipline, skill and loyalty. Having served his country for many years, Hamars father Orinn found a place in the local military academy for his only son. Hamar has also two sisters, Alea and Daria. Both older and already married to local merchants. Hamar spent 5 years in the academy where he was signed in the age of 16. After turning 21 he passed his exams and became a Purple Dragon himself.

Altough happy with his achievements Hamar always thought that a simple soldiers life was not for him. He wanted to do greater good then his profession allowed him. After 2 years of service in the Purple Dragons Hamar deided that he would like to become a knight one day. He saw once a paladin on the streets of Suzail. He saw how people admired him, how they treated him with respect, but also how king and helpful the paladin was towards the simple folk. The paladins name was Sir Albrech Garlid, and he would become the first teacher of Hamar. At the age of 23 Hamar became a squire.

He ventured the whole of Cormyr with Sir Albrecht, battling evil forces and learnig to help the people. They slayed a goblin raid in the Kings Forest and defeated a troll force in the Farsea Swamp. Lately the trouble with orcs invading the country have brought them to the west border of Cormyr, the Yellow Snake Pass. Orc forces travelled through this place and invaded Eastern Stormhorns. Hamar with his teacher and a group of Paladins and Purple Dragon Knights were sent to cut off the Pass and hold it until the reinforcements form the Southern Army arrive.

Wounded, without supplies but with courage in their hearts they battled for 30 days. Hamar lost a finger in his left arm and a part of his right ear to an orcs axe. Many of his companions were slain and their bodies stolen from the battlefielfd just to be returned as dummies to lower the defenders morale. The fight seemed never to end and the army didn't arrive. Hamar proved his valor many times during these days.

It was during a night rade when Hamar shielded a wounded companion with his own body. An orcs hammer reflected from his body armor in a flash of light. The orcs fled in panic and his companions looked at him amazed. Only Sir Albrecht smiled under his nose. Later questioned Hamar said that in the moment of the blow he thought to himself: Please Tyr protect me. Then a shield of light covered the place of the blow, protecting him and the wounded companion below his body. You could hear people in the camp whispering during their talk the word: Invoker.

The days passed and Hamar just liek the others was only weaker. Little food, little sleep. constant stress and combat preparation drained the body and mind from life forces.
The grim day of defeat came at day 46 of their unewen war. A large force of orcs attacked the camp, but this time they were supported by goblin archers and sappers. It was a slaughter. Sir ALbrecht fell to a blow to the head form an orcish axe followed by several arrows in the back. Hamar killed the orc and held the dying teacher in his hands. Blood dripping from his beard on the long not cleaned body armor. With the last breath he whispered to Hamar: You have a gift my boy that i never had, Tyr favors you. Remember to serve the people, protect the people....

After these words Sir Albrecht died. Two goblins jumped in front of Hamar and an Orc ambushed him from behind grabbing his sword and leaving him defenceless. He fled to the left near the cliffs. He stopped at the edge, looked down at the River Reaching. He turned back just to find the chasing company couple of feet away. He tried to fight, a blow in the stomach and then in the back dazed him. One false step and he was falling down. Down into the river rapids.

The water dragged his body through the Skull Gorge to Western Heartlands. He grabbed a big piece of floating wood and travelled by the river. He was rescued by local fishermen near the town of Hills' Edge. There he recovered his health and strength. A local shaman named Faorun nursed him back to health. It took 3 weeks. Hamar didn't even notice when winter came. snow covered the mountain passes and he had to stay in the village for a longer time. It turned out that was a good thing. The winter was harsh, the wolfs came closely near the towns looking for food. The rangers had a lot of wark tempering their appetite. But they could do little against a lost orc patrol that ambushed the village looking for shelter and food. Savage beasts started killing the villagers in a wild frenzy when Hamar bursted out form a hut. In his old rusted armor and armed with a torch and a hunting spear he looked more funny then intimidating. The first orc lost his humor when the spear penetrated his guts imapling him. The second one got his ugly face burned by the torch. He screamed like a rabid dog when trying to cool his wound in the snow. Hamar lost the torch to a swift blow of an orcs axe. Unarmed again against couple of fierce orcs and no river to fall into near. What happened next was hard to describe. The simple folk would say something about a flash, holy flames, pillar of divine vengeance. The truth was that Hamar invoked a Flame Strike from the heavens and burned the orcs with holy fire. Just because he wanted to protect the people and asked Tyr to aid him, he received help.

Named the village hero was leaving Hill's Edge in the spring like a king, altough people did not want him to leave the understood that his life was not bound to one place. He had to serve the weak and helples. The locals boarded him on a caravan heading towards Baldur's Gate through the cities of Triel, Elturel and then with the river Chionthar.

Sometimes Hamar thought about returning to Cormyr, but then again nothing was awaiting him there. His teacher dead left him without occupation, and he could try to join a paladin order in other places as the rules for joining one were similar everywhere. Recent war between Baldur's Gate and Amn showed him there was a lot of tention in the region and help form someone like him could be desirable. At war there were always people to protect and after it a lot of rebuilding and law to enforce.
