Dilarra was a skilled mercenary warrior for hire in Menzoberranzan for many decades. As a female and not a priestess she was an oddity, however, it was because her mother was subject to both losing the favor of Lolth and her house losing favor and being destroyed, that she was never brought up as a priestess of Lolth. This was an unusual situation, but was accepted because Dilarra's upbringing in Menzoberranzan was most unusual. She was raised in the edge of drow society by drow slaves. A tale for another day. It was a mark of humiliation upon her house.
Dilarra started her career as a body guard for a lesser house and slowly and methodically built up for herself a position as a leader of a small group of mercenaries. As a mercenary leader, she helped to exterminate one drow house after another. She was a determined and skilled warrior who through her will power and charisma was able to gather together for a time a band of warriors. She also had a way to inspire others and lead them in battle. These warriors of Dilarra included goblin scouts, bugbear falchion phalanx warriors, minotaur beserkers, a two headed troll, a pack of displacer beasts, and a few male drow. This band was a group that only numbered about 80 to 100 at any time, but they were highly skilled, well trained, and known as an effective shock unit.
Under Dilarra's leadership they acquired great wealth. However one day a powerful Matron hired Dilarra's band to aid a lesser house in over-taking their enemies. But this powerful house only used this as a ploy to encourage the lesser house to attack the enemy house. In the battle the self-same powerful house that hired Dilarra to aid the weaker house came to the aid of the house attacked, which led to Dilarra's force being decimated. It was thought that Dilarra also was killed, but she escaped.
Dilarra escaped the battle and took with her some items that would aid her in survival in the Under Dark wilds. Into the wilds she left, avoiding her people for decades, thinking and meditating on the meaning of her life. Dilarra became a very skilled survivalist, pathfinder, and scout of the Under Dark Wilds around Menzoberranzan. Soon however, learning the tunnels well, she learned the ways between many of the Drow cities of the Underdark including Sshamath, Ched Nasad, Elyndryn, Menzoberranzan, and other places. She spent many years as an expensive and skilled guide for her people between the drow cities. Eventually she settled in Sshamath.
One cycle Dilarra ventured to the surface and broke out of the Underdark for the first time near the Cloudpeak mountains. She was astounded by what she found. The burning orb of the sky burned and stung her eyes.
Dilarra made her new home in the Cloudpeak mountains to learn of the surface world. She recently left there to return to Sshamath for rest and the creature comforts of the city.
