Background:
Born and raised in Aglarond by his parents, his father a sergeant in the Aglarondian army and his mother an alchemist and former war mage of Cormyr, now owning her own shop in Velprintalar. Velrahast's childhood was in general similar to that of many other commoners and his family just as average as any other.
Always known to have had a keen intellect, but also fond of martial training, he wanted to become a soldier like his father. One of the battle mage commanders he was assigned to in the army saw potential in Velrahast and decided to train him as a battle mage.
They fought against thayans in a major battle. When he encountered an almost skeletal Red Wizard. He quickly realized that this was a lich and most likely a powerful Red Wizard of Necromancy. He had always admired and respected the Red Wizards for their well known skill with the Art, and secretly found necromancy rather fascinating. Now he faced one of them in battle.
He charged, weapon raised, and rattled off an incantation to ward him from at least the first spell to hit him. The lich moved it's hand in mystic figures and calmly spoke words of power. Velrahast's ward was spent in an onslaught of black and purple misty trails of energy that ceased to exist a split second later. He started swinging his weapon as he closed in on the wizard, thinking the lich would cast another spell and hoped to interrupt it. Instead the lich simply stepped out of the way and slapped Velrahast across the face. The paralyzing touch of a lich.
As he lay there paralyzed and helpless, the lich stood over him and chuckled a dark, otherworldly sound before speaking another incantation and waving his hands in arcane gestures. A curse struck Velrahast and agony consumed him for what seemed to be an eternity. His mind twisted and soon the pain became a beautiful sensation. He stood up and watched in awe as the a vampire in service of the Thayan armies tore out the throats of many of his fellow soldiers. Such purity, he had thought, even though his former mind would've considered it an absurd thought. Then he fell back and everything went black.
He woke up later, with the memories of his former life only like a faint dream or vision, slowly fading even more away. He felt a strong sense of purpose. He would try to purify himself. Become an undead.
Goals:
- Find a necromancer to serve, and who can transform him into a true undead.
- Alternatively find true undeath in some other way and become a death knight.
- Gather remains of various undeads for study.
- Gather a network of associates from all parts of society
- Smells faintly of decay because of his grafted undead arm and his skin in process of becoming partly mummified.
- His parents never learned what happened to him. His body was never found after the battle, and so they most likely believe him to have been raised as a zombie for the thayan army.
- He is extremely polite to everyone he meets so as to make "friends" and cover his intentions of undeath. Besides, he very much enjoys civil discussion and sophisticated company. He is by all means evil, of course, and does not care what ever for anyone. If he ever helps, it is likely in the hopes of gaining trust and friendship that can be used in one way or another. Being properly dressed is also important to him. Looking proper and sophisticated, as well as being polite means people will show respect.
