Last Name: Zirkus
Appearance: Large even for an orc. Grey skin, grey eyes, black messy hair. It seems he spends far more time polishing his armor than grooming.
Race: Half-Orc
Age: 20 (November 2012)
Height 6'8"
Weight: 250lbs
Eyes: Grey
Hair: Black
Facial Hair Style: animalish and unkempt, but short.
Personality Profile: Like any Half-Orc, Borbag faces many challenges. He is never fully accepted into an orc tribe because he is less than an orc, and likewise in 'civilized' lands, his kin are thought of as nothing but murderous beasts. Regardless, Borbag is a faithful of Torm, devoted to service in the cause of good in the name of the Triad. He is extremely pleasant and well-spoken //consider him having 2 points in speak language: common (13int), especially for one of his kind. He finds solace in the few wanderers that are pleasant with him and also in his devotion to Torm.
Often his devotion means that he will risk life or limb in duty and service. He takes his word and promises very seriously.
At times, Borbag will stop whatever he is doing and just seemingly freeze. What he is doing is taking in his surroundings, or maybe examining a particular scene or object. He spent most of his childhood in darkness with only his Orcish darkvision to see (black and white only); The outside world is beautiful in true color.
General Health: Average. He is in good health, slightly better than most only because he is a half-orc.
Deity: Torm. The deity that binds the Triad together in service.
Initial Alignment: Lawful Good
Profession: Adventurer and Diplomat. Though strictly speaking, Borbag doesn't look for adventure so much as hunt evil where it lives, he always has a preference for conversion through conversation, rather than violence.
Base Class & Proposed Development: Paladin/Fighter/DS. His origins being what they were, he is still as much a warrior as a holy-man. Fortunately, he has always been a capable fighter and devout. RCR Divine Champion for Dragon Slayer - In various dealings with dragons, with disastrous results, Borbag has begun training to fight the evil that constantly seems to hound him on the coast (RCR prompted by various DM events where Borbag got ever so sorely rocked by dragons lol).
Habits/Hobbies: Borbag enjoys athletic contests. Especially those that involve his brute strength. Other hobbies are polishing his armor and sword to perfection, because who doesn't like shiny armor? Secretly, he enjoys a good discussion or even debate. Any chance he may get to practice with his wits.
Languages: Orcish (first language), Goblin (Second language), Common (Second language) - see background
Weapon of Choice: Greatsword, the favored weapon of Torm.
Background: Borbag's birth is a common one for all Half-Orcs in the Icewind Dale. That is, there were large raids and his mother was among the spoils. She survived as a captive/orc-mother for years (as we all know, insult an Orcs father and he wouldn't notice you, but insult his mother and be ready to face the meanest Half-Orc on Faerun). In this time the tribe all but rejected Borbag. He was odd for an Orc. Looked like them, spoke like them, but never acted quite like any of them. By his fifth year many of the tribe were giving him beatings, just for fun and in a few cases out of disapproval. Fortunately it wouldn't be long before a band of powerful men from the ten towns came to reap what the Orcs had sown in their raids. These men weren't rescuers so much as vengeance. They killed every Orc in sight, female, child.... They were all beasts to be slaughtered. If not for Borbags devotion to his mother, he might have been out fighting the men off and killed instead of standing between these crazed creatures and his mother. His life was spared and his mother, along with a few other women, were rescued.
The Orc and Goblin tribes were not destroyed. They were scattered and ravaged for sure, but in time they may reform under one banner. The Half-Orc king of the tribes escaped. It wouldn't be until his later adolescence when Borbag fully understands the consequences of his escape.
Life was never normal for Borbag, because everyone knew what he was and the underlying truths of his conception. Fortunately, he was a tough boy and more importantly a very good boy. He made friends in the people he protected. While he was accustom being hit and beaten, Borbag did not like seeing others receive the same treatment. It was only a matter of time before the town began to respect him for who he was. Borbag could speak to anyone and relate to them. He volunteered to perform menial tasks at no cost, just to be of service. He was making friends throughout the town and even made a reputation for himself as a capable fighter.
He learned about discipline during this time as well. Worshipping the gods in an Orc camp meant chaos, fighting, eating, but here it was prayer, learning and offerings. Though it was his time spent between both the church of Helm and that of Tempus that made Borbag choose Torm. While many prayed to the greater deity's, Borbag always felt most comfortable serving others, helping them come together as a community. This was Torms exact role in the Triad.
It was in his sixteenth winter that Borbag both became an adult, by Orcish standards at least, and also lost his mother. She had never fully recovered from her captivity, but at the very least she lived long enough to see her boy grow into a man she could be proud of. Following her burial and with the threat of the Orc King returning, Borbag immediately went to the Mayor and asked to be dismissed from the militia. He had felt the urge to travel and learn the ways of the holy warrior, but Icewind Dale lacked any temples to Torm, simply shrines inside the temples of Helm or Tyr.
So he traveled to Neverwinter where he found his first temple of Torm and and a Paladin to squire him, which only lead to more traveling. His journeys took him across the length of the Sword Coast and back, until he was honored to become a Paladin in his own right and went separate ways from his mentor in Baldur's Gate. The rest... is history in the making.
Goals:
- Like many paladins, especially those of Torm, Borbag's only wish has ever been to become a part of a community and serve. To better life for others.
- Personally, Borbag wants to make a place for himself. Much like the one he had in the north, but he doesn't want to call any one place home... at least not yet.
- Having become a member of the Order of the Radiant Heart, The Orders' goals have also now become Borbags goals.
- Through his fame to bring honor to Torm through service.
It seems he is a bit too shy in larger groups to really wish for fame, though he hopes his service will still bring glory to Torm.
- To live a long and happy life.Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:
- Anyone in need of help will receive, whether they ask or not.
- Borbag loves to talk! Often he might be shy at first because of the recent invasion have made people fearful of his ancestry, but it doesn't stop him from trying to be cheerful.
- Borbag loves sunlight and the colors of the world. He will take a great deal of time out of his duty to search out amazing scenery.
- Borbag is a dog person. He loves dogs and the loyalty they exude. He tolerates, but dislikes cats, flighty little creatures with no sense of honor!
- His pallet is slightly disgusting. He does enjoy fresher/rawer food than is normally seen in town.
He often shares a sack of feed with Lucky Jr. His second Mule who has recently grown into it's own adulthood.
- Borbag's history has been mostly resolved. He has no need for vengeance but justice. The Orcs in the Spine of the World were not destroyed but simply scattered until they regroup again. The hunt for their chieftain often crosses his mind. That monster needs to be brought to justice in a court of Tyr for his crimes against the Ten Towns. Borbag's inquiries have led him to believe that the king made his way south towards Chult, but never truly made it further south than Amn. Though due to the stories of the Black Orc Tribe, he believes the chieftain might have made his home in the Baldur's Gate region.
The Black Orcs seemed to have had different masters and not the King. Borbag has lost the trail and is unsure of where to go, but he does keep in contact with the people his met from Amn to Icewind Dale.
- Borbag is a Paladin of Torm. Many hold no special regard for him or his god, since Torm is a minor deity in service of Tyr and Ilmater, two greater deities. Like Torm, Borbag could care less. His purpose is duty and loyalty to his masters and every success in service adds to Torms luster.- Lucky was lost to the black orcs. It was to Borbag like losing a child. Since then, he has raised a new mule, he named Lucky Jr. (No actual relation to Lucky). He sees the irony in having named the first Lucky and likely irony in Lucky Jr.'s future, but he is not good at making up names.
He does on the other hand often share meals with Lucky Jr. as he did with Lucky. Borbag has a taste for it.
