Re: Journey Book of a Wizard
*written in Halruaan*
My journey to the Western Heartlands has been mostly uneventful. A few bandits attempted to rob the caravan I was traveling with. I am glad I made a stop to Waterdeep, an amazing place. I am surprised they can keep it all going with out slaves. I assume most are endentured or paid next to nothing.
That is something I do not understand. People who hate slavery are so willing to steal peoples lives by paying them nothing. At least as a slave you know you are provided for. While a freeman that does not make enough to live on is worse off. How can people ease their souls by doing something that is worse?
If I ever have tradesmen or slaves working for me, I will treat them with respect. Happy workers, work harder that unhappy ones. Such a simple idea, I can not understand why guilds do not place it into practice.
My contacts here at Baldur's Gate have ignored me. I presented my papers and have been waiting for over two weeks for an audience. That amazes me. I also noticed business is not open to the public. That tells me the alot about the current state of affairs. Things should not be allowed to continue as they are.
As to the locals, I have meet some people from Thay and Rashamen. I am surprised to find many from so far east. I have found one master of the old ways and he agreed to sit and have tea with me one day.
People are so, what are good words to discribe this? Unconcerned? I went with a group into the Naskell Mines and watched them banish a Balor. Their attitudes about such an event were casual. A demon lord from the lower planes and they made no pause... Another group took me into a dwarfen stronghold. At the lower levels was an old black dragon. Again such power treated so casually.
I am curious as to what the future may bring. At the vary least I hope to add some order to such an unordered land.
