Re: Lore Assistance
I saw some sprinkled discussions about this through the search function but was hoping for a more direct answer from one of our lore scholars here... Is there any precedent for a paladin of Deneir? It is a selectable deity from the character creation, but I don't know if there is any lore established on paladins for him..

Deneir is Neutral Good. Don't see why he wouldn't support Paladins...

Re: Lore Assistance
There are no paladin orders dedicated to Deneir, but one could still be a paladin of that deity if desired. Here's what Faiths & Avatars has to say about Deneir's affiliated orders:Burgy wrote:I saw some sprinkled discussions about this through the search function but was hoping for a more direct answer from one of our lore scholars here... So a paladin Carmendine is definitely possible.Deneir, with Mystra and other powers, has influence on the mysterious group known as the Harpers, and one of Deneir's largest churches, the Inner Chamber in Berdusk, is the front for an extensive Harper organization known as Twilight Hall. While Deneir has no militant knightly orders, his faith does number an order of scribes and several orders of monks. All temple scribes certified by the church of Deneir as skilled and trustworthy belong to the Literate Brotherhood and wear a pin or badge depicting a while quill with a gold nib. The monastic orders include the Preservers of the Ordered Way, who tend to remain cloistered and perfom copying and illuminating work; the Disciples of the Free Word (known derisively as the "Pens of the Poor"), who pursue the church mission of offering scribe duties to the indigent with great vigor; and the Zealots of the Written Word (usually just called "Zealots" or Carmendines, after their founder), an adventuring order that accompanies priests of the faith on holy quests and pursues money-making efforts for the church.

And it is a selectable deity from the list at character creation... I just want to get an answer on this since I have (without giving too much away) a character concept for a Paladin/Anointed Knight of Deneir.. The character is low level and this is how I have been RPing him, however I don't want to invest too much time or RP into him to find out in a month from someone more knowledgeable than myself that this is a ridiculously snowflaked character or not possible at all...Deathgrowl wrote:Deneir is Neutral Good. Oh, so in other words, maybe requiring DM approval, a possible back story for such a character.. I.E. he was or is a Zealot of the Written Word who has made his way to The Sword Coast for X reason... (obviously this is just a very very general example for the makings of a background)

Re: Lore Assistance
It never hurts to get DM approval for things. But generally PCs can join religious orders (that are not described as being "elite" in some manner) without DM approval.
The exception to this, as noted, is the ultra-prestigious religious orders, like the Hammers of Grimjaws.
Nobody should be going around claiming to be in this group without DM approval.

And generally speaking most religious orders in Forgotten Realms Campaign setting are rather fragmented. The only exceptions are the Major Religions in the Major cities.
Moreover, as a Paladin of Deneir, you do have at least three groups of people you might want to get involved with: The Candlekeep, The Most Noble Order of the Radiant Heart, and The Knights of Silver Rose.
Thefore, being a Paladin of Deneir is certainly not a dead end.

Candlekeep was very much in my mind when I had the idea for this character.Montaron Alagondar wrote:And generally speaking most religious orders in Forgotten Realms Campaign setting are rather fragmented. The only exceptions are the Major Religions in the Major cities.

I just created a 7th level paladin, 1st level divine champion but will probably stick to Kasham overall.

Candlekeep is of course the most obvious place for anyone of Deneir, Oghma, Milil and perhaps Gond to go on this server.Burgy wrote:Candlekeep was very much in my mind when I had the idea for this character.Montaron Alagondar wrote:And generally speaking most religious orders in Forgotten Realms Campaign setting are rather fragmented. It's also the most awesome guild ever. Yeah. We're awesome.
If it's any comfort, Atlas, I would definitely try to join the Radiant Heart if I ever made a paladin. But I don't have any inspiration to create or play one at the moment.

The Triad, which Tyr leads, is the main gods of the Radiant Heart... though, any paladin would be able to join from what I can understand of Atlas.

Are there any wood elves living in Lurkwood or Coldwood?
