Background: Heimdall Vindicus was born in Mulhorand to an Aasimar father and a human mother. Though his heritage is obvious to the observant, given away by his eyes and general demeanor, he has but a small fraction of celestial in him. He has always been eager to learn new things. Heimdall learned to read and write at an extremely young age with very little guidance from his parents. Though he has an elegant air about him, Heimdall is not from a noble family. His father however was a rather successful business man and was able to provide Heimdall with the books and tools and materials he needed to expand his mind and further his education.
However the day finally came, not far from his eighteenth birthday, that Heimdall's father could no longer provide the necessary materials for Heimdall to advance his knowledge. Now being a man in his own right and knowing it would make him happy, his father set aside a large chunk of coin, and gave it to Heimdall so that he might pay his way across the lands of Faerun to Neverwinter, so that he might study in The House of Knowledge. While in Neverwinter he spent much time in the library sharpening his mind while in his free time offering his services as a scribe for coin here and there to pay his way. He did his job well and was compensated accordingly. It was with this coin that Heimdall bought his first sword and began volunteering as a guard at The House of Knowledge in exchange only for training. Writing and reading were always his first and fore most passions and he had always felt a connection to Deneir as a result or perhaps vice versa. However he knew this knowledge can come at a cost. There are those who would steal or destroy it, followers of Bane or Mask, among others. Those who would use it for nothing but profit, or worse, for nefarious deeds.
Combining his martial training with his studies of The Tome of Universal Harmony Heimdall realized his calling of becoming a paladin of Deneir, promising to use his skills for good and to protect and recover ancient lore and knowledge so that all those worthy might share in it. Ever the scholar, Heimdall eventually began to focus his studies more on another passion of his, alchemy. Through his practices he learned to make magical oils with which he can anoint himself and his sword to increase his combat prowess and better uphold Deneir's will and portfolio.
After many years in Neverwinter, much like back home in Mulhorand, Heimdall had begun to grow restless in his studies, always seeking more. At last with a kind farewell to all his friends and teachers, giving as much thanks as he could for all that they had taught him, he set south for Baldur's Gate and The Sword Coast. His intentions: To gain entrance to the ancient and historic library of Candlekeep and continue his studies, his works as a scribe, and his alchemy...
Goals: To join Candlekeep so that he might be able to study in their famed library and work as a scribe for them or assist in any other duties they would have him for, including fight.
Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts: Anything where there is unique or interesting knowledge or lore to be learned is of great interest to Heimdall. His natural thirst for knowledge draws him to mystery and intrigue.
-Heimdall's grandfather, Hendrick, was a great adventurer in his own right. However before Heimdall was born his grandfather left on a secret quest, never to return. To the best knowledge of the Vindicus family, his body nor the exceptionally crafted and ornate longsword passed down through his family were ever found.
-I would be open to the idea of Heimdall having a 'courtly love' as is outlined in The Complete Paladin Handbook from 2E... ((I.E. a female NPC of lawful good alignment he fawns over and loves from afar... Typically it is with a member of the nobility and generally unrequited)) More details can be found: http://gobbi.free.fr/Library/Manual/Com ... ndbook.pdf. A paladin often does many things for a courtly love which includes, but is not limited to; defending her honor from slanders, championing in her name at tournaments, doing quests for her ((i.e. her brother has been kidnapped by brigands and must be rescued!)), or simply sending her gifts (usually done anonymously).
