Habits/Hobbies: Despite his lack of talent, he still holds hope of becoming a rich and famous bard. He passes himself off as a bard in most company, and still attempts to compose stirring songs about his comrades, which are nearly all terrible.

His evenings are spent feverishly studying stolen spellbooks in the hope of maintaining the illusion that he is not just a common rogue.

While a terrible musician, he is a talented actor and will always attempt to bluff his way out of difficult situations. Due to a fervent desire to embellish his own story, much of what he says is exaggerated or blatantly untrue.

Weapon of Choice: Dislikes combat, prefers to attack from afar with a bow if he must dirty his hands. Uses a rapier for melee combat and carries a dagger as a backup. His melee fighting skills were taught by an actor who Amaer's mother enjoyed a fling with, and as such they are showy but ineffective for doing real damage.

Amaer's mother, Jura Kellern (CN human female Brd1/Exp1) worked as the resident two-copper bard at the seedy Jaded Unicorn inn in Scornubel. With no stable partner, she had a brief dalliance with a passing (evil) elven adventurer which led to the birth of a half elven child.

Jura eagerly named him in the Elven for "beautiful son" (from Races of the Wild, apols if this is inaccurate for Faerunian elves) and raised her offspring alone in her dingy backroom tenement. Young Amaer idolised his mother and dreamed of being a bard like her, but he turned out to be completely tone-deaf, and unable to make any sound with a musical instrument that didn't cause discomfort.

This changed when Amaer was in his teens and his mother took up with a new paramour, Saith Darley (CE human male Rog5) who noted Amaer's lack of common sense and quick fingers and started training him as an apprentice. He hoped to pillage the business of the numerous wealthy merchants who passed through Scornubel and buy his way out of the peasantry. Young Amaer believed Saith had a genuine interest in his future and happily went along with helping his adoptive 'father'.

A few months ago, Saith attempted to steal back some magic jewellery that he had fenced to Angah Lalla. The thief and his apprentice broke into Angah's shop late at night, scouring the maze of passageways for the stolen valuables. Distracted by a book of pressed faerie dragons on a high shelf, Amaer blundered into a magical alarm trap, sealing Saith in a forcefield while Amaer made a run for it. Believing he had doomed his 'friend', Amaer vowed to leave the Caravan City and only come back when he was famous enough to be beyond repercussions.

Half way to Baldur's Gate, Amaer came upon an old wizard, Harran de Malech, (TN human male Wiz16), sorely wounded by bandits. Attempting to help the mage by bringing him to safety and healing, Amaer travelled with him for some time until he died of his injuries defending the half elf from a band of monsters. Bequeathed the mage's spellbook as a gift, he now harbours thoughts of instead becoming a great wizard.

Goals: His immediate goal, to become a famous bard, is unachievable - given his lack of talent, anyway.

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts: Amaer's father is unaware of his existence as of now, but he is a powerful sorcerer - sorcery hasn't been passed on to Amaer but evil wizards can often make use of bloodlines for dark purposes. Saith is also still alive and a nasty piece of work - more so as he believes he was double-crossed...
