Background: Arawn Zheil is the current and presumably last of the progeny of a powerful Demon Lord. His lineage has long been subject to the whims and will of their ancestor, being forced to obey his dark whispers by the power of the demon blood that flows within their veins.
They were seen as nothing more as puppets and toys, mindless brutes dancing to the tune of the Demon Lord, inflicting pain and spreading fear in this name. Once the Demon Lord grew tired of a generation of offspring, he orchestrated a new child of his blood to replace them, protecting them from the harm that would normally befall those of such vile ancestry.
And so this charade of life continued seemingly endlessly, with each new generation falling to his dark machinations, destroying and pillaging across the Sword Coast the moment they reached adulthood. But one day, a child was born to a woman in a small village in the vicinity of Amn who was to be the first to break free from his accursed heritage. This child was Arawn.
Alas, he too fell to the Demon Lord's power at first, spending his childhood plagued by nightmares and constant pain, driving him to grow to power for the sake of his ancestor's will.
However, the demon blood in his veins had grown thin over the countless generations, marking the beginning of the end of the curse and his lineage. It would be his salvation, as upon reaching adulthood, his mind had finally matured, and he could at last resist the Demon Lord's commands that had haunted him for so long. Upon finally breaking his chains, the power that he had been granted was torn from him, leaving him weak - but finally free.
Alas, his newfound freedom would not grant him respite. For many years, he had terrorized the village in the name of his dark progenitor, and now he would be faced with the consequences. His own mother, who had detested him ever since his birth, was now lusting after his life. But her contempt, merely borne from the repercussions of having birthed such evil, was but a speck in the ocean of hatred that boiled in the hearts of the villagers that had suffered under Arawn's deeds for nearly a decade.
Now, no longer under the protection of the Demon Lord, Arawn was faced with the unbridled wrath of the villagers, seeking to eradicate their former oppressor. Shortly after learning of his loss of power, a mob of villagers attacked him at his home. He barely escaped into the forest near the village, albeit greatly injured by the villagers who he had to fend off.
Arawn was a vengeful man. He knew what he had done, but he would not allow those who tried to kill him to live another day. And thus he snuck back into the village under the guise of night, setting fire to the homes of all the villagers. It killed those who would not wake in time, and left the survivors with nothing.
"An exquisite vengeance", he mumbled to himself and set forth along a journey through the Sword Coast - to learn of the world and take revenge on he who had taken everything from him.
He chose to forsake his ancestor's ways of brutish violence and direct conflict. However, he was not a good-natured person - not after living a life of such depravity. No matter how much he may deny his heritage, he was formed and molded by it. But unlike those before him, he was of a far more subtle persuasion. And he valued order - as long as it served his purposes. Thus, subterfuge and manipulation became his new most trusted weapons. Grand betrayal of those that had come to trust him deeply would bring him the greatest of joys. Eventually, Arawn sought after something greater - something only a god could grant him. Gargauth, a god of betrayal, looked favorably upon the acts he had committed, and thus Arawn decided to devote his machinations to him, in the hopes of being granted the power to end his progenitor and take his place as a new Demon Lord.
Goals: To exact vengeance on his ancestor, the Demon Lord. To one day commit and act of betrayal so grand that the gods themselves would be aghast.
Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:

* Confronting the Demon Lord and taking his life.
* Arawn has a dislike of pretty much every other person, as he is a very distrusting person by nature of his own expertise. However, he detests humans more than other races, as it was a human village he grew up in.
* He is an excellent deceiver - and even although he detests others, he will always maintain a facade of friendliness - or at least cooperation - for as long as it serves his purposes.
* He loves to manipulate others into doing his bidding, no matter how trivial.
* He is easily provoked when it comes to a battle of wits
* Elaborate (infernal) contracts delight him
* Is usually very serious and cannot stand more easygoing people
