Laugh if you want, but I once played in a campaign where we had to escort a pregnant woman o'er hither an' yon, and things would have been more fleshed-out if we had had the BoEF and its rules about how pregnancies modify stats.

It's baffling how fleshed out Forgotten Realms/DnD is. It's on par with Star Wars I say!

Actually, the "Nymphology" is a little more silly than the "Book of Erotic Fantasy."WeWhoEat wrote:Laugh if you want, but I once played in a campaign where we had to escort a pregnant woman o'er hither an' yon, and things would have been more fleshed-out if we had had the BoEF and its rules about how pregnancies modify stats.

I have a Candlekeep mentality on these sources and simply view them as a book on the shelf in case an individual might be interested in why most dwarven labors are painful or allowing the very attractive bard the "Change Orientation" spell so she can avoid amorous advances from the oh so typical drunken sailors... did not make it fun for the paladin though....
That being said, I'm in the process of uploading a large portion of my collection, except the adult themed books, to to my Drop Box and will be sharing them soon. I will also share the other Mature rated tomes if the staff agrees to allow this. This would be upon request only and sent privately so that the general population of the forums will not have direct access. Either way, the goal is simply to have a place where our community can share official and related sources so that everyone has an opportunity to educate themselves about the wonderful world that is the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting.

Re: Lore Assistance
Here's one that has me stumped, maybe someone can enlighten me. The lore I am finding says that the Mulhorandi language is the official language of both Mulhorand and Thay, though they use different alphabets for it... But there is also a note with a source to one of the Dungeons or Dragons magazines saying that Thayan is a language spoken by residents of Thay...
Are Thayan and Mulhorandi then two entirely different languages?

Re: Lore Assistance
Thay is inhabited by two different people; the Rashemi and the Mulan. The Rashemi are the lower class citizens ruled by the Mulan, who are the only ones who can become Red Wizards.
Each people have their own language. The Rashemi speak Mulhorandi, while the Mulan speak Thayan.

Thank you. That was a great page as well - it should be added to the lore pages (if it isn't already, and I just missed it).

Do Dwarves in Faerun by rule of thumb have name and a surname (stronghold name) or can I roll one with just the first name?

Re: Lore Assistance
The clan is a very important part of a dwarf's identity... I'm not sure what a dwarf does if he leaves his clan or is ostracized by them regarding his clan name though, but I'd imagine part of becoming clanless means loss of the clan name. Some good sources on dwarves.AlfarinIcebreaker wrote:Do Dwarves in Faerun by rule of thumb have name and a surname (stronghold name) or can I roll one with just the first name?
Races of Faerun
Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting
Races of Stone
Races of Stone is not Forgotten Realms specific so the first two would be more accurate if there are any contradictions. Given that, here is an excerpt from Races of Stone:
RoS, page 15 wrote:The Clanless
Even in such a tightly knit society as the dwarves possess, some simply cannot fit in. Frequently, these dwarves cannot subjugate their needs as individuals to the needs of the group as a whole. Others cannot easily withstand the rigid rule of law, chafi ng under the restrictions it requires or simply choosing another way to live. Still others are thrust unceremoniously from the bosom of the clan in payment for crimes they have committed. These groups all form the lowest rung of dwarf society: the clanless.
Clanless dwarves come from all manner of backgrounds—criminals, rebels, the dispossessed, and the orphaned. They have no hall to welcome them, no patriarch to give them succor. They often live in the poorest section of the dwarf cities, often in the industrial districts near their businesses or jobs. They sometimes work as common laborers, though those with a more adventurous spirit usually head for the surface world and try to make their fortunes there.
Because of the affi nity the clanless have for the adventuring life, most clanholds look upon adventuring dwarves (or those without an obvious affi liation) with suspicion. Because they are suspected to be misfi ts at best and criminals at worst, any offers of hospitality to clanless dwarves are usually made with one hand outstretched and the other resting meaningfully on the nearest weapon. No dwarf will turn away another in need, but the clanless typically receive a much shorter invitation and much less comfort than any other. Because of this treatment, some groups of clanless dwarves are rumored to have set up surface freeholds in the style of their clan cousins. Since no clan member would be invited to such a place, however, much less willingly set foot inside it, the rumors are difficult to substantiate.

Re: Lore Assistance
This is how Kraak Helzak is running, since we are trying to move away from having just one dwarf clan,
Kraak Helzak clans and the clanless
1.This is intended to be a list of all the current clans at Kraak Helzak,
2.You can create your own clan and it will be assumed that there is more of you in the Nation and the "character" you play is the representation of your clan .
3.You may play a dwarf to represent any of these clans, just be respectful to the originator of that clan and try somewhat to follow their background lore. If you have questions ask the creator
4. I will try and add a brief description of your clan, please pm it to me what not.
5. Each clan can also have honorary members to account for the clanless who are looking for a home
6. You may play a clanless dwarf, but try to strive for a position of power within the Kraak Helzak Society, or you could be a mercenary, merchant etc (we are trying to stay within lore)
7. we also take any type of dwarf evil etc, but unlike some of the races dwarves are close knit and you will likely be outed and ostracized from the KH terrtory, so be careful ie (dwarf warlocks etc)
8. I will update the master list, ie the 2nd thread of this when new information is added.
ded.

So what, you can later join the clan of your choosing, ie change the surname of your toon or you must pick the clan name upon character creation?
