Status of Hoar
What is the status of the god Hoar? The FR wiki has a very sparse entry on him, but it describes him as existing prior to the ToT but it doesn't say how large his following was. While it's certainly not large, was it completely confined to a certain region (Unther, the FR wiki suggests, had a large following) or was it spread it to an extent? Would it be possible to play as a follower of Hoar?

Re: Status of Hoar
Here's a short write-up out of Faiths And Pantheons (pages 97-98):
Hoar (hore) is the vengeful deity of retribution invoked by those who seek to repay an eye for an eye. He is a moody deity, prone to violence and with a penchant toward bitter humor. [...]
Aside from a handful of temples, the church of Hoar is composed primarily of itinerant wanderers who travel from town to town agreeing to pray for Hoar's intercession on behalf of one who seeks or fears vengeance for some attack in exchange for a small fee. Charlatans receive a fitting punishment by Hoar's hand. Hoar's clergy also seek out victims of injustice, hear their stories, evaluate the veracity of their accounts, and track down the perpatrators in order to inflict a fitting form of punishment. No injustice is too large or too small for revenge to be sought and a fitting punishment meted out, earning the church of Hoar the ire of town watches and Tyrists alike as well as the adulation of the downtrodden.
[...]
History/Relationships: Hoar is actually the ancient Untheric deity worshiped in the eastern Inner Sea lands as Assuran. Centuries ago, he was driven from Unther by Ramman, although his cult remained strong in Chessenta. He eventually slew his rival during the Time of Troubles, but Anhur stole Ramman's unclaimed portfolio before Hoar could act, earning Hoar's ire. Both Tyr and Shar contest for Hoar's tormented soul, as the Dark Goddess seeks to turn him into a servant of blind vengeance and bitterness while the Maimed God seeks to unlock Hoar's bittersweet humor and shift his portfolio to favor irony and poetic justice. Meanwhile, Hoar conspires with Beshaba in unleashing bad luck on the deserving.

Re: Status of Hoar
From what I understand, Hoar is a lawful neutral god. I think we're saying a bit too much in a public forum, but Hoar's 'lawful' is not Tyr's 'lawful'. Hoar's law is not the written law, so p'rhaps it makes sense in this case.
Hoar definitely doesn't come across as being lawful in the same ways as the 'goodies' we loathe

Re: Status of Hoar
One god that is slightly undefined on the BG server Domains list is Hoar: http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Hoar
As a demigod, he covers the alignments LG, LN and LE. If you read his dogma, a paladin following his portfolio/dogma would make for an interesting RP character.
Anyone, especially Staff, want to weigh in on whether this would fit the server rules?

Re: Status of Hoar
Thanks. That was the most detailed description I've read so far.
Unless someone from the staff chimes in otherwise, it seems possible to worship Hoar on the Sword Coast, but one's PC would need to be a foreigner for sure.
And, there would be some relations to the Church of Tyr....but mostly a challenging one.

Re: Status of Hoar
The main difference between them is that Tyr seeks justice, while Hoar just wants to administer payback. He wants an eye for an eye and doesn't care that'll make the whole world blind. Of the two of them, Hoar is definitely the one closest to "Lawful Stupid".silverias wrote:From what I understand, Hoar is a lawful neutral god.
