A letter to myself - Jondeth Iakoam

Unread post by Antigo »

To myself:
If I am lying here slumped and you are curious whether or not to resurrect me after pilfering all of my belongings, let me explain. This letter to myself, while it may be a source of entertainment for you, does serve a purpose. While most wood elves that you may meet are generally far more aged than me, I am considered young by our standards, I have gone through more than most. We generally are a reclusive race, staying with our families and villages deep in the forest, however, when that is stripped from you at an early age you must find a way to re-establish who you are. That is the purpose of this letter, that I may read back and realize who I am and where I am going, and what I need to do.

I was adopted at a very early age, around 7 (I truly cannot remember my exact age, it was over 105 years ago after all), I use the term adopted loosely, more along the lines of a forced adoption really. My village was wiped out and I was found wandering a caravan road, by none other than a traveling circus. The circus, being made up of many races, felt that I should be taken in, and was given into the care of a gnomish bard attached the circus. From that point on, he became my adopted father. Sadly, I cannot remember my birth family, I have dim recollections of them, having a brother or sister…

I digress. My father taught me many things, tumbling, acrobatics, and the like, I spent time with many of the different performers, and I learned quite a bit about what it was to be a gnome, grant it, an overly tall one. I think my humor stems from that time, quick witted, and sarcastic. To my father’s dismay I did not express a single ounce of skill where music came into play. I did what I could to make him proud, playing tricks on some of the others.
Like other points in my life, that ended abruptly. A group of bandits slaughtered the caravan one night, and again, I was the only survivor. I prayed to my goddess, but she rarely gives a straight answer, and if she does, one cannot know if it is the truth.

For a short time, I traveled back into the woods of my home forest, and met with some of my own people, learned a little of the way of the forest, but they found my jokes irritating, and unwelcome. I tried to fit in, but I could never shake the feeling I still had something to accomplish.

Since then while still keeping an open perspective on life, I will continue to grow, thieving if I have to and learning where I can so that I can finally accomplish my goal in life. To bring fear and death to that group of murderers. Whether they be noble princes or lowly scum, I will attack from the shadows, and bring pain and misery down upon them.

Jondeth Iakoam

P.S. umm.. if you do find this letter, please don’t hesitate to raise me. I will be your best friend.
