cant equip fishing pole

[Grimmbutters]

I was about to get around to trying out fishing with my new toon, after finally having made one with decent survival (shaman). Figured it might be a relaxing alternative to the usual grind/monster farming and just basically wanted to check it out, but for some reason when i bought the fishing pole, i could not equip it. I tried buying another one and it also would not equip. The game said my character "didn't have the proficiencies required to equip that item." The pole was red like all items that can't be equipped

don't think it matters, but I have shaman weapon proficiency and martial wep proficiency

was wondering if this can be fixed easily or no, and what do i need to do? cause i sure would like to wet a line and haul in a big one

Hey Grimmbutters, we don't know what the issue is.
What level is your guy?
