Re: Make Warlock application only
Who? Wha?
Things I agree with:
1. (known/suspected) Warlocks should be crazy-shunned by the populace.
2. I'd love more DM involvement in pacts (even PM'd them about possibly giving me the "terms" of my contract on the wierdlock I have)
Things I don't:
1. Application only!? HA!
If it is about rarity, human fighters would be the ONLY nonapplication race/class.. I may allow Dwarf fighters as well.
Silliness. Tyrannical silliness.

The entire premise is silly and a tad elitist and arrogant. Not to mention completely surface centric considering a whole underdark awaits where warlocks would be far more tolerated if not outright respected/feared( but I repeat myself)

I diasgree with this statement. Druids have an extremely complex RP, akin to Paladins for difficulty of their path. The other classes can give birth to deep RP concepts as well, and I have seen plenty of them. I have also seen excellent warlocks being played. Then, you have the bad ones.Enaylius wrote: Warlock is not a class like fighter, ranger, wizard, druid, etc... where you can just make up a quick backstory and splash for 'powers' and role play it any way you want to on a whim.
You have bad wizards, bad druids, bad paladins, bad fighters...and yeah, bad warlocks. Unfortunately, warlocks tend to be a lot on the server, so maybe you can meet more "less than optimal" RP concepts among them. Making the class application only doesnt solve the problem, because
Yeah. KoS on the surface sounds good. Warlocks are excellent mechanically, they dont need to desperately jump on every party train to visit areas safely. This is a kind of RP consequence I would like to see, and I could support. But no application only, which is reserved for very specific situations that already need monitoring and take away time and energy from the DM team.tooley1chris wrote:Making anything application only causes more work for staff and ALWAYS gets complaints of favoritism.
I would much rather see obviously evil or casters who traffic with devils/demons become KOS.
Warlocks are my favorite class to play and the class of my main so...

I agree too and I already said thatI don't like application classes in general, but do you know what is going to happen with KoS? It starts with "w"and continues with "hining". Simply because there are too many good warlocks around.Aelcar wrote:

I guess it has more to do with being outed as a warlock than anything. Being outed as one is always bit problematic.Eden wrote:Simply because there are too many good warlocks around.
I could easily roll an evil warlock, and I would be quite annoyed for anyone outing my character as a warlock simply because they saw my character cast a single eldritch blast or an invocation.

The server has had its share of 'warlock' hunters, some of which have been deeply rooted in role-playing, and some others that were much less so.
Hence, I think the best approach to have is to role-play hostility towards arcanists you do not know. Things like eyeing the mage suspiciously. Making the mage explain something before they can cast spells on you. And actually, the same goes for clerics. A question such as; 'whose priest are you?' should be asked so much more often.
I've been on the server for far too long. Expecting people to 'role-play properly' has not produced the expected results. So, you have to start role-playing yourself to get others role-play. Literally, you have to shove it down peoples' throats.
Hence, when you question the priest, they become more aware of the role-playing requirements of their class - and it works for all classes.

Just be careful who you ask for explanations on spells.
I dare you to ask someone like Hoihe! I dare you!
But yes, outing can make it very annoying, and may make KoS troublesome.

I would not mind them being KOS, as by and large, they were feared and assumed to be dealing with the hells.
Take this for what is worth though, as I despise the OOC-out process. (love the server naturally, but you can't please all of us all the time)

You can out them if your character has the appropriate background, and the appropriate skills. High spellcraft comes to mind. High lore, high sense motive might help.
If I had to choose between KoS and application only, my vote would definitely be with the first.
Between application only and leaving things as they are, with the second.

Warlock's invocations are not spells, those are spell-like abilities, hence the NWN2 engine does a foul when it automatically detects them..

I am aware, sorry for not being clear in my post Simian: I meant that a combined check of (sufficiently high) Lore and Spellcraft should point the onlooker towards strange ways of weaving. A competent mage would recognize (whether he cares to say it aloud or not) that what the warlock is doing isnt normal.Montaron Alagondar wrote:Warlock's invocations are not spells, those are spell-like abilities, hence the NWN2 engine does a foul when it automatically detects them..

It iss still is a homebrewed convention.
Without deviating too much from the rules, I would first focus on this bit under the Spellcraft skill:

Meaning that when you get hit by a 'spell-like ability,' you could try to identify what was it exactly that you were hit with.25 + spell level - After rolling a saving throw against a spell targeted on you, determine what that spell was. No action required. No retry.

But what would be the appropriate DC? 30? Or something higher? I suppose that is for the DM to decide.30 or higher - Understand a strange or unique magical effect, such as the effects of a magic stream. Time required varies. No retry.

I realize it's homebrew (a bit like the incarnation of the Lore skill), we surely could work on it. I would also like to set it a bit higher than conventional, because otherwise everyone will recognize them, which gets a bit silly...

Re: Make Warlock application only
The important thing about this is if it's possible to let the rolls appear mechanically as it works for spellcaft/wizards. If I know it's a warlock invocation from the game bar, I know it, and no one cannot say anything about it.
Remember them all it's just a game.
