Counterspell doesn't work properly

So, happened three times today, against the king:

1) I enter the room with 3 Mords memorized.
2) King casts storm of vengeance. I counter it.
3) King casts Mord, I got a message: "You're still preoccupied of…" and I am suddently destroyed by the mord.

Note, this didn't use to happen.
Can I know what that yellow message means? Because I read pretty much everything I found but didn't found any answer, I am wondering why sometimes it works properly and sometimes not, if it's my fault or not.

Surely the NPC can also only cast one spell a round? So that should mean you can Counterspell one enemy spellcaster until you run out of spells to do it with.

Anyway, Considerate is right.
But what the hell does the yellow message: "you were still preoccupied countering…" means? Untill I don't know it I cannot understand what's the problem with my mage.

Yeah that should be how it works. I'll take a look at the timer but you should also knowin that you cannot cast / attack or use an item at the moment the counterspell would occur.
If you are otherwise occupied you will not be able to counterspell. (moving is okay though)

That sounds like what the message is saying: "You're still preoccupied " unless the timer didn't reset correctly and it thought you had already CS'ed this round.

Reactive Counterspell alleviates that issue. And Epic counterspell removes the limit of times you can do it per round.

It might be that the King was able to use a Spell Like ability as if it was a quickened spell, or the timer might have fluked, or you might have been otherwise occupied. (spell casting / attacking / using item / using feat)

Do you happen to remember if you were doing anything else at the time, like opening a door, using an item, casting a spell or anything?

It might be a one time fluke because of lag or something. But I can look at making it more reliable.

Well, I read a lot about counterspelling so when I use it I stand still without even moving.
I use hips, enter the room, press 1 (exiting hips mode), the king starts to cast, when I see "Frostking is casting Storm of Vengeance" I press 0 (counterspell) and try to counter it, the I wait - standing still - till he casts Mord (he use to cast it after Storm of Vengeance) and try to counter it again with my second memorized Mord.

Sounds like you're using Reactive Counterspell to counter it, if that's the case then you sacrifice your next turn - which means you can't do anything, even counter, in the next round of combat.

That would give you the "You're still preoccupied with..." message you're receiving.

Eden I use counterspell as well and never had a problem with it. The only time i got this message is, when i cast a spell against the targer and/or attack him. Did you try to cast any spell after you countered the first spell?

BTW movement does not stop counterspelling.

I don't see quicken spell on him.
But ye, some of the stronger casters may use quicken spell.
