Elven ages

Unread post by CrimsonMist »

Do the ages for Faerunian elves follow the table here?

350 years seems too young for a venerable elf, though I might be confusing myself with earlier edition lore?

Check out races of Faerûn. It's not uncommon for sun elves to live for 700 years, for instance (or so that book claims).

In Faerun the I believe the Snow Elves have the shortest lifespan of the Elven races and Sun Elves have the longest, but 3.5e rules provide the same age tables for all species of Elves EXCEPT sun Elves. Non Sun-Elves will live 550 years old on average, with 650-700+ being considered absolutely ancient and 751+ having never occured (or rather statistically impossible for it to happen using dice rolls by core rules. Exceptions might exist based on the lore of the campaign settings). Sun Elves will live on average 700-750 years, with 900+ being considered ancient and 1020+ having never occured.

Elves are considered adolescent somewhere between 55-65, and "legal" adults somewhere between 85-100 (the variance in both cases generally being differences between the various subraces).

Here's the two tables for reference:

Code: Select all

For most Elves:
Middle Age (−1 to Str, Dex, and Con; +1 to Int, Wis, and Cha):
175 years

Old (−2 to Str, Dex, and Con; +1 to Int, Wis, and Cha.):
263 years

Venerable (−3 to Str, Dex, and Con; +1 to Int, Wis, and Cha.):
350 years

Maximum Age
+4d100 years

For Sun Elves:
Middle Age (−1 to Str, Dex, and Con; +1 to Int, Wis, and Cha): 210 years

Old (−2 to Str, Dex, and Con; +1 to Int, Wis, and Cha.):
315 years

Venerable (−3 to Str, Dex, and Con; +1 to Int, Wis, and Cha.):
420 years

Maximum Age
+6d100 years

(Note that maximum age is the result of the roll of 4d% or 6d% added to the Venerable age).
Hope this helps. I think the problem you're having with is just conceptual. Think of it like this, at 60-65 you might be considered "old and wise" but you still might live to 120.\

OK, thanks! My moon elf is 413, so she might die any minute. Good thing she's so sprightly.
