building an area for the server

Unread post by mute83 »

i have been a little borred lately (waiting for the new patch) and as i have been wanting to see a specific area on the server (i dont know if its in, i send an PM to the DM that would be using it, and waiting for an answer) i was thinking that, i could give it a go, with trying to build it my self, instead of asking a DEV's to do it. I hav no experiance with building, but i will of course read the places i need, and/or ask here. And i want to ask, if it would be okay? of course if you liked the area i, hopefully *prays*, will manage to build

Well, as you can see in the Ulgoth's Beard thread, I wanted to learn the toolset and just decided to go ahead and do it by building an area i think would suit well for the server and see if they (or jlf2n) in the end like/s it. If so, great! Granted i haven't worked on it for a bit and need to...

But anyway, just go ahead and post some screens when you have some progress, or wait till the end. Id suggest post a bit as you first start so others might be able to point you in the right direction if you're lacking etc. That's what i decided to do anyway. They won't be able to tell you anything until they can see your work. So just start!

i have startet on it. but im also about to give... omg its stupid. various tilsets that would be obvious to have, arent in. i have tried various options to get it to work. but then i am just missing something else, or it dosnt fit proberly together, leaving a gap/hole. damn frustrating. instead of being done building the part i startet today (and just needing to fill up the area), i ended up quitting for today

You're building an interior then? I havent done much for interiors but maybe you could take a screen of these gaps you're getting and someone could hopefully help u out.

Yeah, tileset combinations are tricky at first, but if you tell me what you try to do, I'm pretty sure I can help you find the right one. I'm very bad at exterior maps, but I know interior pretty well.

Just make an account on photo bucket or some site like that.

Put your pictures on there.

Then link em to here.
Photobucket has bulletin board tags so you can cut and paste the full tagged image link from that site and paste it into your message here.

Custom effects can be made with scripting, yes. However, they will be variants of the effects already in game, but mixed differently. Totally new effects require haks, methinks.

The dungeon tileset can be a little annoying to work with. Under placeables you'll find some pillars that match the tileset. I just scale them and place them in the corners to close the gabs you're displaying ;)
