Re: Ask Arkanis
does the term "Archmage" carry any weight in the realm as a title of great power or is it considered just another class like any other? I know of a few great mages (elminster etc) however i dont think i have ever heard of them refered to as "Archmage"

Re: Ask Arkanis
The first time I remember seeing the term "archmage" in FR lore is in reference to Gromph Baenre who is, "a male Drow elf of Menzoberranzan. He is also the master of Sorcere, the arcane school, and the first son of Matron Mother Yvonnel Baenre, which makes him the most powerful male in the city. Gromph lives in the Narbondellyn district of Menzoberranzan. He is far over 700 years old.... Some consider Gromph the greatest archmage in all the Realms; Elminster, however, is more than eleven centuries old and Khelben a few centuries younger than that (both may be greater mages than Gromph, as they have had more time to study and perfect their mastery of the Art); as such, it may be more accurate to list him as a rival in power to the other archmages of the Realms."Wolfrayne wrote:does the term "Archmage" carry any weight in the realm as a title of great power or is it considered just another class like any other? I believe the title of "archmage" also denotes some level of scholarship as well as position. With Gromph, he is the head of a school of magic; for Elminster, the title may be irrelevant to him and so he does not use it. In our game ranks in this class allow for additional spells, etc. because of this extended study.

I am a huge fan - watching the latest episode tonight, and I hear it is great. My prediction is that everyone gets pasted and Walter is the only one left alive. There have been enough flash forwards that suggest that everyone else is gone and that he is the only one left...Hitman Hard wrote:Are you a Breaking Bad fan, and any future predictions for the show?

Love it! I need to revise my answer. Walt is on his way to kill Elliot and Gretchen and he's going to go down in a hail of bullets. I think that Jesse will either be the guy who kills him, or dies alongside him... undecided ATM.Thids wrote:Here's a prediction for youDM Arkanis wrote:I am a huge fan - watching the latest episode tonight, and I hear it is great. "Hags are a variety of horrible monstrous humanoids, resembling an exceedingly aged woman. Although different hags are unique in appearance and mannerism, they have many aspects in common. All take the form of crones whose bent shapes belie their fierce power and swiftness.Lockonnow wrote:what is a hag and what is a witch on this server it is not the same?
Though rarely seen along the Sword Coast, hags are quite common in the distant wilds of Rashemen, where they frequently seduce (and later devour) unlucky men. Male children of these unions are the twisted hagspawn, renowned for their physical strength and their uncanny resistance to magic.
Some varieties of hags include:
■Annis: Garden variety of hags, fond of using disguises.
■Green hag: Hags native to swamps and forested regions.
■Bheur: These wintry hags are known for their icy disposition and temperament.
■Night hag: Not technically a hag, but actually a type of fiend."
The witch in D&D can be played as a character as well as be a monster, and there are various classes of witch.

I was really hoping Walt was going to show up at the DEA office and blow everyone away, even Merkel. Since I figure he blames Hank for it all, Hank could of just put that book back on the bathroom shelf but had to be a Paladin!

This has always been of interest to me. How much of Karsus's Folly would actually be recorded anywhere? And the knowledge of 10/11/12 circle spells. While they are blocked by Mystra would it be a posibility to create such spells again using the shadow weave since it is out of her control?
Since Shar and Selune created birthed many of the other Gods and Shar wishes to see the world returned to nothingness would she be more open to allowing such magic to be used?

Arkanis,
Does a shadowdancer with the Shadow Jump ability have somatic or vocal components to the ability?
The shadowdancer's mark rune, is that an OOC mechanic, or should it be regarded as IC? If it is IC, does that have somatic or vocal components?

Re: Ask Arkanis
Not much of it would have been recorded by the Netherese as they pretty much all perished when the cities came crashing down, but I would imagine that there would have been a few survivors who weren't at home so to speak when it happened. Karsus was an arch-mage and renowned for love of power, magic, wealth and any survivors would have know this, and know that for the cities to fall something terrible would have had to happen. Mystryl the goddess of magic is slain and in seconds reincarnated as Mystra and instantly imposes a moritorium on spells above 9th level. As she would have followers, and high level spellcasters, there would have been a sense that high level spells were not being granted anymore, and the knowledge of old ways to cast forgotten - her clergy would have spread the word of the spell cap, and the powerful magic users would have pretty much figured it out on their own I'd say.Wolfrayne wrote:http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/History_of_magic

During the spellplague the shadow weave collapsed along with the weave when Mystra died... Shar miscalculated. The shadow weave was never truly under her control.

Re: Ask Arkanis
Shadow Jump has verbal components only and requires one standard action to accomplish. According to my research it functions the same way Dimension Door does.Deathgrowl wrote:Arkanis,

According to our own wiki http://bgtscc.wikia.com/wiki/Teleportation
Mark Rune
Caster Level(s): Brd 0, Clr 0, Wiz / Sorc 0
School: Universal
Descriptor(s):
Component(s): n/a
Range: Personal
Area of Effect / Target: Location
Duration: Permanent Inscription of a Rune
Save: n/a
Spell Resistance: n/a
You inscribe a rune with the location you are currently occupying and link it to that location permanently. The rune may then be used to provide a connection to the location for teleportation magic. By targeting a rune that is already marked you can remove the binding spell.
In terms of is it IC or OOC "do you see the mark" my sense would be that it is invisible for OOC purposes and IC your character "knows" where it is.

Re: Ask Arkanis
Could you verify if the Dungeon Masters on this server are still using the AD&D material for server lore instead of the 3rd edition material?
(2nd edition material is closer to the server time line, it is more detailed, ect.
Lore =|= Game Rules.)
Question brought forth by this thread: http://bgtscc.net/viewtopic.php?f=10&p=477014#p477014

Re: Ask Arkanis
There was an old script in the Theater called Karsus' Folly, about the his strive for power, the fall of Netherese and Mystra's death. We intend to do this play again, sometime after the other 2 we have in mind... Based on that it was allowed in the past, I would say anyone who saw it or would dig in some books knew the basics of why the floating cities fell.Wolfrayne wrote:http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/History_of_magic
