Crossbow Feats

Unread post by Nomster »

I'm a bit uncertain what feats to choose for a character who uses a crossbow. AB won't be that awesome (40-ish with buffs). Been trying it in JEGs but after a while the numbers made my head spin :P

I've looked at Crossbow Sniper and Master Crossbow Sniper. I don't think these work in JEGs, in that they are adding dmg..? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I understand with crossbows, you only have 1 attack per round. Rapid Reload opens up Rapid Shot, effectively giving 3 attacks. Manyshot gives -8 AB but twice the dmg for each bolt.

- Even if I would only have 1 attack, does Manyshot still give -8AB?

- Is it worth having 3 attacks as well as Manyshot, or is it more worth it on a build with much higher AB? In other words, would I hit anything with it...

And is the following feat available IG? It doesn't appear for me in JEGs. The other Weapon Mastery Feats require Fighter lvl 12 though this one doesn't state that.

Weapon Mastery (Ranged)
Hidden: show
Type of Feat: General
You have mastered a wide range of weapons. Your training with one specific weapon now extends to other weapons of a similar sort.
Prerequisites: BAB +8, Weapon Specialization in one of the following weapons: Short Bow, Long Bow, Light Crossbow, Heavy Crossbow, or Sling.
Benefit: When using any ranged weapon, you gain a +2 bonus on attacks and a +2 bonus on damage.
Special: A fighter can choose Weapon Mastery (Ranged) as one of his fighter bonus feats.
What's the opinion on Dead Eye Shot? I haven't tried it but the way I think it works is that your character stands and aims, waiting for an ally to score a hit. If your buddy has cursed dice, you could be standing there for a bit missing out on attacks...?

Haste adds fourth attack.

And yes, it is worth it.

It worked in Jegs. Like some feats after you rest you need to unequipped and reequip the Crossbow for the feat to kick back in.

You need Weapons specialization feat as a prerequisite for Ranged mastery.

I'd also love to know exactly how Dead eye works in game by someone who uses it. The way the feat works it's not something you can test in Jegs :( The feats description like many new feats are worded in PnP language, and that often does not translate to NWN2 mechanics.

Based on the description:

A and B are fighting opponent C.

A has the dead eye shot.

B is currently fighting C.

A activates the Dead Eye Shot on C, and if B manages score a hit, C looses their dexterity bonus to AC. In otherwords, C becomes easier to hit. Also, in PnP, if something looses their dexterity bonus, they can be sneak attacked.

But someone has to try it out.

So level up, pick the feat fiddle with it, and if it is not to your liking; ask a DM to drop your character down a level.

The AB penalty grows based on your BAB, not the number of actual attacks.

That's what I thought but wanted to be sure.

Doh! I somehow always read it as Weapon Focus, so essentially you need Fighter 4 to get it.

Thanks for the answers! :D

Just tried the Crossbow Mastery feats and they do indeed work when you un-equip and re-equip the crossbow :D

I couldn't get Dead Eye Shot to work. I had a summon who should count as an ally. Whenever I clicked on the feat the character stopped attacking and when I clicked on the feat and directed it to attack again it only looked like a regular attack. It may be the case that it simply doesn't work in JEGs.

Except that no deity offers crossbows as the favoured weapon.
