Name: Eli Press
Race: Human(Believes his ancestry dates back to the Netherese so will at times refer to himself as a Netherese)
Origin of Birth: Thay, but did not live there for long. In fact he does not have the accent of a Thayan as he spent most of his childhood in the Anauroch Desert studying the Netherese Ruins with his father, a Red Wizard.
Eye Color: Light blue, almost grayish
Hair Color: Black
Height: 4'10-5'2" Between there. he is relatively short.
Weight: 114.56 lbs
Personality: Egotistical almost to a fault. Thinks very highly of himself, and truly believes he is destined for a spot in history. Something that he strives fully to do. Has little to no moral standings. He doesn't care for good or evil, as long as he can study on anything in peace he doesn't care if one calls his studies good or evil. Even Necromancy is just another aspect of magic that is worth studying. At least in his privacy. He believes the ends justify the means.
While he has no morals in what he does for study, he will respect the law. Mostly to avoid the angry mob or paladin. But that's just the public sphere, when in privacy he does what he pleases. if that's to raise three hundred skeletons and have them perform a play on stage then that is what he will do.
Everything he does he goes at with a single minded determination for two things. One to benefit himself in someway, be it spreading his fame or gaining some knowledge or powerful artifact. Second to see how far he can delve into something before reaching a dead end. Especially when it comes to his research, he will take every path, even the unethical ones, until he gets every single detail down of what each path creates.
Though selfish and egotistical, and down right sees anyone who can't match his wit or intellect as beneath him. He is a rather sociable person. He enjoys company and strives to have friends. Though he tends to be very picky on who he considers a friend, usually in they have to meet his standards or spark his interest in some way.
He is usually very polite, always either using someones first name. At times he will even address someone with the formal Madame, Lady, Sir or Lord. Even an orc, such as Lady Kaltyra. He will never use a derogative term towards someone. Though he is not above calling someone out as a savage barbarian if they act like it. Nor is he not capable of venomous words if pushed.
Avoids direct conflict if he can, preferring to avid battle all together. Especially if the fight is sparked by different moral philosophies. He considers it a waste of effort. The only time he will fight is if he needs to defend himself, his friends, an experiment that is fruitful, or if he has something to gain from it. Otherwise he will stand back and watch both sides destroy each other, maybe sell a few scrolls to both for a bit of profit.
Can be rather charming around girls, and will at times steal a kiss or three if he can. Despite this he tends to avoid relationships, unless he feels a need to experiment with them. Usually it will never last long as he is more interested in study and research. Though he will admit, he can understand why a man would seek out another for company. Though he usually sees it as just a way for the species to continue reproducing in the end.
When it comes to knowledge, Eli loves learning. But when knowledge is destroyed, he can get angry. Especailly when it comes to paladin orders and those who claim some moral mission. He sees them as the enemies of knowledge as they have proven willing to destroy what they claim as dark knowledge.
Eli hates this and will often times swear, sometimes in different languages, when he hears of such actions. And if someone were to burn a very rare book infront of him, he would probably lash out without thinking of the consequences. Preservation of knowledge comes first before anything else to him.
At best he can be rather blunt in what he says. He tends to only give half-truths or lies when needed. At other times, and most of the time, he will just say what is on his mind. Even if its just to insult another's intellect or lack there of.
Best known trait: His Egotistical behavior and his utter lack of morals. Such as saving a giant slime from destruction.
Deepest Secret: Has a great dislike for birds. He considers them annoying creatures. Useful in the way of a carrier pigeon, but never the less annoying. Plus they smell.
Bio: Eli was born in the nation of Thay. His father was a minor Red Wizard, who spent most of his time studying the ancient empires of man. Especially that of the Netherese. Thus Eli spent most of his life as a child learning of the Netherese, studying their ruins, and even grasping their ancient language.
As well, his father had many slaves, some from various races. And thus Eli was quick to learn the various tongues of these servants. He became multi-lingual, though he keeps such a skill secret. He finds that, if people who speak a language don't know you speak it, then they are more willing to let something slip in your presence.
Despite the rather knowledgeable upbringing, Eli's childhood was not all suns and flowers. His father was a vast perfectionist, and rather unethical in his teachings of his son in the basics of wizardry. He would constantly belittle Eli, saying that he was not doing enough or claim that he was nothing without him when Eli threatened to run away.
Eli himself was unruly. While he enjoyed the meticulous ways of the wizard, he felt his father was holding him back. Besides Eli wanted fame and glory, like Elminster and other famous wizards and heros he read about in the various books and histories he read during his free time. But most of all, he wanted to prove to his old man that he was thrice the wizard he ever was.
One eve, after a very heated argument, on Eli's fifteenth birthday, he made good on his threats and ran away from his father's camp. But not before stealing his spellbook and several months worth of coin. To this day he still remembers his father screaming defiance, threats and calling him worthless. Well, Eli was intent on proving him wrong.
And so Eli left. He had already learned all he needed on using magic, now it was all just trial and error and study. Everything he could do himself. But at times he found that magic couldn't solve all his problems, and he learned other skills. In time he became a rather competent trap and lock springer. His fingers that dexterously worked magic were also fabulously useful in such things and his small stature made hiding all the easier. His magical powers simply added to his skills.
He has since arrived in the coast, where he finds that all sorts of things have occurred that demand a keen mind to learn their true secrets. Not to mention rampant barbarism. Not to mention a chance to find that fame he so desperately wishes to achieve.
