RPing the "hate" between Elves and Dwarves vs Half Orcs

Greetings everyone,

Just posting to ask some for some insight and advice: For those playing elves and dwarves (or any other race that lore-wise are against orcs) how do you RP with surface "goodly" half orcs? I have recieved one player's input but would like to ask different points of views.

Any helpful information or words will be greatly appreciated.

At best my elven PC he treats them like that annoying neighbourhood dog that keeps crapping on my lawn - a disgusting nuisance. At worst, a creature that should be put down if given the chance (much like that annoying dog should be). Moral - all dogs, orcs and half orcs should be locked up.

If you're willing to sacrifice grind opportunities for RP - which is a good thing in my book - refuse to party with orcbloods and leave the group if your allies insist on including the beast.

After all, no matter how peaceful and stoic they are, the blood of a vile monster boils in their veins and they can never be trusted.

In a sourcebook there is a good quote on elven view

It basically says orcs do not deserve the emotion of hate for they are merely pestilence. Genocide is not to be committed to not stoop to their or the drows' level. They don't mind keeping population in check though. Also that doesn't mean welcoming attitude.

Halforcs are viewed variedly. Book mentions elven individual-specific culture. More once I get home. Writing from phone...

Typically, my dwarves will make comments and will not party with Orcs of any linage, half or full blood. Or those who consort with Orcs.....as mentioned above, I have left parties before for allowing Orcs to join.

Nearly without exception, all of my dwarves have been frothing-mouth hostile toward full orcs and spit-and-curse about half-orcs. Almost everyone that plays a half-orc or full orc knows this is standard fare and expects it.. there is always that one that thinks he should be treated like a human.

The Elves I've played have varied a little more, full orcs are still a reason to become violent in most cases. The reaction to half-orcs largely depends on that specific character's background, frame of mind, level of passion, etc. Some would rather stick a blade between the ribs, others are ok ignoring them as poor creatures of unfortunate circumstance.

My characters of both races would be hard pressed to ever party with orcs or halves, with only the most dire circumstances allowing it.

You are in your right to RP such hostilities. It is mentioned several times in sources that half-orcs while tolerated in some parts, are always considered second rate citizens. I don't know more specific about dwarven and elven treatment of them but from what I have seen, players of half-orcs expect the hostilities.

Other characters may actually react more to your hostile manners than the half-orc in question (my personal conclusion).

Grey orc/full blooded orc characters should expect aggression from others, as per this post.

It's a little difficult when most players RP like half-orcs are welcome citizens; it kinda paints your character as an (hero) if they're the only one reacting negatively to the orc.

Conversely, you may be an elf holding hands and cuddling with your orc mate. It should be noted that you should expect to be hated as well. My PCs as evil as they are, would still likely front the coin for your assassination. There should be consequences for consorting with the enemy of your people.
