Memories of Alyndra Morningdew

Unread post by Nyeleni »

I fought a beast standing up like an elf, but with a wolf's head and claws! Being surprised I didn't realize at once it was a werewolf! It was trying to rip my throat out. I avoided those teeth which looked really frightening up close.
Knowing this part of the woods to be dangerous I had called previously Syllith to my side. Though it seemed not right to fight something similar to her. After changing her hide and my dark hued skin into beech bark , awakening her senses, sharpening her teeth and claws and making us stronger, we started to explore this part of the Cloakwood.
With claws as sharp as my sickle it ripped through the leather and hurt me badly on the right side of my chest. Hoping the wound wouldn't give me problems later, I parried the next few swings with an oaken shield.
And with a sickle I tried to slash his face - especially the muzzle.
But it was faster than me.
Syllith had her fangs in one of the hind legs and worried away. Seeing that it was a bit distracted, I healed myself thanks to Oak Father.
As the fight carried on, I was starting to get tired. Neither was Syllith getting closer to finish the monster, I decided to call on another favour and fired my Sickle and her sharp extremities up.
We were finishing the werewolf when we heard a wild roar. Behind a large sword the face of an orc appeared slashing at Syllith. It had joined our fight.
Nimble as she is, she avoided being hacked in half.
It attacked with a reckless abandon. Luckily we knew how to counter it. And soon it was dead on the ground.
We retreated in direction of Doron Amar and I treated our wounds.

(Too bad I forgot to take a picture. But this is one fighting a dreadwolf later in the same wood.)

Another sliver out of her live:

(Unsummoning Companion)

They were both tired. Syllith and Alyndra had fought off a few Trolls after stealing into a dark and damp cave entrance. The stench had been overbearing, still the couple had followed their tracks from a demolished farm house.
The sight of the gruesome site had reminded her of how vicious these creatures could be.

They had both in turn invaded the home of the slimy and foul beings. But the stench had been too much to exterminate them all. After a while they felt the farm avenged, and returned outside to the fresh air. Alyndra even managed to take some trinkets and treasure. Not that she cared too much, though it was always needed when talking to other people. It seemed like most humans and dwarfs were crazy after the shiny. She mused if halflings were as easily fooled, but let the thought go after a while.
By the sea under the high cliffs she buried her hazel hair in an embrace with her friend. Just were a few chestnut hairs seemed to form a pattern against a darker fur and breathed in for some moments her scent. She ruffled the lighter underbelly, looked her deep in the eyes and dismissed her.

She was alone again. The rather sturdy elf looked with dark eyes brooding over the clashing surf.

///(I have more on the pipeline, this one was written some days ago. But I thought it best to wait before posting it - next in line is a Tarot reading; after that only some vague ideas - hopefully I have time to write the stories down)

/// all the following text:

(Bio - at last)

First impression
____________________________________________________________________

Wild Elf from Shilmista.
Over two centuries old, might be close to two and a half. She was born when the last leaves dropped off the trees in the morning (with dew obviously).

Brown skin, hazel brown hair, dark eyes, a bit stocky and taller than other elfs. She goes usually barefoot. She isn't as nimble as the usual member of her kin.
She doubted the traditions and customs of the elfs were right for her, especially her kin back in Shilmista were frustrating for her. She thought those traditions weren't suited for the world as it exists now.

After knowing her a bit better
____________________________________________________________________

She rarely transforms herself into animals and other shapes. She prefers to stay in her original shape.
She appears to be a follower of Silvanus, usually wandering around with her companion - a wolf - named "Syllith".

She is often straight forward and doesn't believe in a diplomatic approach; though she is capable of kindness and altruism, she isn't really concerned about the woes of the world; she usually accepts the things now as they are; at times she can seem cold and distant especially when lost in thoughts.

Towards all the races which don't live as long as elfs, she seems a bit arrogant. Calling them children, but usually underestimating their superiority too, if they excel in it.
She is fascinated by humans - especially the knowledgeable of the written word. Candlekeep is a great mistery to her. She is almost uncapable of reading and writing elven. And she admires all who can. Even if it is in other languages.

Dwarfs are just a mistery to her, but as she doesn't value gems nor forges she doesn't show much interest in them.
Hin on the other hand she usually enjoys. She is constantly reminded how a light heart may make a day joyful. She thinks that it is sometimes more worth than a dragon's treasure.
Now gnomes are on the same level as as mages in general. She doesn't understand them at all. Although if she were to meet a gnomish ranger or druid, they would probably get along just fine.

Other races like "halfbreeds" (hate that word) are closer to her heart as she knows what it means not knowing where to belong.
All the fanatics of a religion are a threat to her. As she doesn't know it but she herself is very set in her faith in Silvanus and thus a bit of a fanatic.

In a fight she is capable of charging first, asking questions later, usually leaving the tactics to her companion, which has saved her from the embarassment of death many a times.

*still under construction*

Alyndra Morningdrew approaches with a cautious look on her face. She has read the sign by the road which states that a certain Ickbar would be reading the fortune from cards. Usually she isn't interested in such fooleries.
As the wind, the trees and nature in general are more than enough to give her advice. But lately she feels a bit forlorn, unsure which path to go.

Ickbar sits by a waterfall and a small camp nearby and awaits his clients by the fire.

Alyndra frowns and asks: "You read the future? or so I heard..."

Ickbar nods: "That I do."

Azmodeth is whistling. She is clad in blue mostly. And she carries a big shield with her. Her face is hidden by a hood. She smiles but you can't see her eyes; it's hard to tell if she means it: "What the... people setup shop here?"

Alyndra frowns at Azmodeth: "I don't think it is a shop."

Azmodeth: "Figure of speech."

Alyndra squints her eyes: "Ah."

Ickbar looks around: "All are welcome around the fire."

Azmodeth: "Oh FIRE! My favorite.

Alyndra almost at the same time: "Alyndra - my name - I would like to know what the wind brings for me in the future."

Ickbar nods to her and pulls out a pack of cards.

Then Alyndra suddenly registers what Azmodeth has said: "Fire is dangerous, child."

Ickbar shuffles the cards then takes the top four cards putting them down one by one in a row.

Azmodeth: "It's just fire." adding "so Tarot readings. I'm willing to get one."

Another adventurer joins the three at the camp fire, greeting Azmodeth: "Hello Mentor..."

Azmodeth: "Hello Latch"

Latch Changehands nods at the others.

Alyndra still fed up with Azmodeth: "Aye, fire is just fire, but your eyes were aglow for a moment, that is the danger."

Ickbar nods briefly at Azmodeth and concentrates on Alyndra.

Latch Changehands: "Are you actually busy?" at Azmodeth.

Alyndra: "How does it work?"

Azmodeth: "Excuse me a moment."

Azomdeth: "You wanted a word."

Alyndra smiles lightly and briefly at Ickbar.

Ickbar: "Well, these cards symbolize different areas in your life, your past, preset, future and advice.

Latch Changehands: "Yes, please."

Azmodeth nods slowly.

Alyndra: "Hm, I asked the wrong question." adding "How do I start?"

Ickbar: "Oh, it has alreay begun. These cards hold your answers I layed out. If you are ready I shall reveal your past?" He hovers over the first card.

Alyndra: "Hm, of course." And watches Ickbar with an intense interest.

Ickbar turns over the first card, slowly: "The nine of Wands" and continues to explain it: "Your past... seems to tell me you have expected a difficult life ahead, and you have had great anticipation for the future..." adding: "You have had hidden enemies... and some time in your past you had some form of discipline, or in some form of order... be this schooled, or otherwise..."

Alyndra: "Hm, seems to be correct so far", looks at card: "Where do you read that in those nine staves?"

Ickbar holds up the card, it depicts 9 different people wearing different clothes holding what looks like wands: "Each card represent different aspects in life, it isn't always what the picture holds, for example "the death" card, although it can specify death, can also represetn death of your old life and moving onto another part in your life.
Adding: "It does take time to learn each of the cards as there are many." nodding slowly.

Alyndra: "I fled the discipline of my kin, their rituals and ancient thinking - but I left the beauty of it behind too."

Ickbar: "Interesting." nods.

Alyndra: "I hope not for good." closes her eyes for a moment and a sliver of a smile appears on her face for a brief moment.

Ickbar: "Shall we move on to see what your present holds?"

Alyndra: "Please".

Ickbar's hand hovers over the next card turning it over slowly and reveals: "The Nine of Swords."

Alyndra: "Another nine."

Azmodeth: "Hmmm."

Ickbar nods: "That is interesting... though the two together hold no values but could be hinting towards keeping an ey out for anything to do with the number nine in future... but the card itself...

Ickbar again: "It is a rather dull card... and represents..." he looks up slowly: "That you may be going through some hard times lately, where you may feel some misery, concern or have had some quarrels with others. Another area it is telling me is that you may have... some anxiety over loosing someone, a loved one more specifically... or memories of such."

Alyndra: "Well yes, there is an anguish of a lost home and all the kin I abandoned."

Ickbar nods: "I can understand, there also may be suspicion or gossip which may catch you off guard as well as some shady character..."

Ickbar gestures to a small man on the card at the bottom left curled up into a ball.

Alyndra: "Still... it is a dull pain now." closes her eyes and takes a deep breath, suddenly: "Shady character?" looks at Azmodeth.

Azmodeth quirks a brow.

Alyndra looses interest in Azmodeth and at Ickbar again: "So, this is the present?"

Suddenly Xermon: "Hey evening all."

Alyndra at Xermon: "Well met."

Xermon: "This is the place of tarrot reading?"

Alyndra looks sharply at Xermon: "He is reading."

Ickbar nods: "That is the present, it might be a slightly dull or unexciting moment to you, or you may feel you are in a place that seems to be going nowhere but let's see what the future brings?" he gestures to the next card.

Xermon: "Ohh, I didn't see you already read." adding: "Apology."

Alyndra dismises the interruption with a nod.

Ickbar turns the next card over and looks at it with a very surprised face: "The... Nine... of Coins..." adding: "I have not had this before, hmmm." He tilts his head.

Alyndra with a surprised look: "And... Now that has to hav a meaning..." adding: "3 nines... I wonder why."

Ickbar: "Indeed Something is definitely hinting for you to be aware of that number..." he continues: "But as for the meaning."

Alyndra: "What does the coin mean? I will find a dragon's treasure? I wouldn't be interested..."

Xermon: " Well, if you find a Dragon's treasure you probably will be dead within a few minutes."

Ickbar: "This card symbolizes accomplishment, so in the future you ill certainly be on the right path. You will have good safety, perhaps met some people that will guide you in the right way...

Alyndra at Xermon: "I wouldn't be that stupid, I hope..."

Xermon: "Hope? you have to be sure in yourself."

Ickbar: "You will own goods, or hold items that you will be proud of, perhaps finding something special..."

Xermon: "There is no hope just simple acting."

Alyndra at Ickbar sounding relieved: "Now that sounds about right - a silver lightning..."

Xermon: "Hope is for the weak souls." adding: "Hope is a mist..."

Alyndra at Xermon irritated: "Hope is the for every person... only weak people think they have to be sure of everything."

Ickbar "You will also be aware of your future at this point and know where you want to go, and also have a very strong connection and love for nature." He nods.

Alyndra: "Yes, indeed, but it doesn't say if I will return to Shilmista?"

Ickbar turns the card to show her a picture of a winding road with nine coins: "That is something hard to say, usually this card represents a jouney forward in your life andn ot usually going back... so it is hinting more likely no... but..." He grabs another card from the deck and places it over the nine of coin.

Alyndra squints her eyes.

Ickbar: "The Queen of Swords."

Alyndra relieved: "At least not another Nine.

Azmodeth listens and watches still in, not interrupting.

Ickbar nods: "This card in this situation is likely to hint that you will be unsure about what to do in the future... At that point you decide if you go back or not... It is telling me a lot of anxiety will hit you and you will struggle to make a decision..."

Azmodeth: "Umm."

Ickbar: "It is telling me you will understand that going back could cause some issues..."

Xermon leaves. Azmodeth shakes her head at him.

Alyndra closes her eyes and frowns: "Yes, it would... I would probably destroy my kin as they are now..."

Ickbar: "Hmm..." he looks at the card.

Alyndra looksup at te stars: "My hope is to transform our old ways andmake some new trails with the blessing of Oak Father."

Ickbar: "This card can symbolize mourning also... but overall it seems even yur future is uncertain mostly because you have many decisions to make before you get to that point." adding: "But the certain part of your futureis taht you will be advancig in yourself, and be on a stronger more certain route in your life..."

Alyndra: "But alas, it might not be my place to do so - may be I will find someting else - there is my curiosity about the written word, the other cultures - all things my kin wouldn't want - maybe with good reason..." Looks at Ickbar: "I will have to think about it."

Ickbar nods: "It will be a tough decision but by then you will be ready and make the choice that is right for you." He then hovers over the last card: "And are you ready for the outcome?"

Alyndra: "Ready or not, sometimes you don't have a choice but to be..."

Ickbar turns the last card over slowly: "The five of coins."

Alyndra is surprised: "Oh, I thought we were already finished."

Ickbar: "This is the card which is giving you advice... so this cad represents the areas yo should keep an eye out in the future..." andhe shakes his head briefly and smiling lightly.

Alyndra watches intently the card and her teeth chew on her upper lip.

Ickbar: "This is telling me in the future you need to be aware of material troubles, like the previous card tellung you will have good items, or land, or a home, this is telling you to be very aware of what you have, perhaps someone plans to steal..."

Alyndra frowns "But I don't own much, only my faith - do you think I will lose my faith?" and continues: "Or does it have to be something material? I wouldn't mind much - I think."
Ickbar shakes his head: "It is specifically for material items, perhaps in the future like the other card you will somehow own more than you expect, perhaps you are gifted a religious building or something similar..."

Alyndra smiles: "I doubt Oak Father would want me to build a church like for their self righteous gods in the town to the north (Baldur's Gate)." adding: "But I think I know what you mean - I will find something others will cover and lose it afterwards..."

Ickbar nods: "Well, perhaps a gift, or some other form of material item which means a lot, either way, just be wary of this in the future..." he nods: "There will also be a time you have a loss, or failure of some sorts, andthis could make you feel very low..." adding: "But let this not stop you from succeeding...".

Alyndra: "Loss and gain is like the wind - it's part of our life, I don't fear it."

Ickbar nods: "Excellen then that part will be fine. There is also a hint of... a lover."

Alyndra in thoughts: "Still, I miss my kin." suddenly aware of what Ickbar said, raising her eyebrows: "Another?" adding: "Ah,well, I guess that is part of life too."

Azmodeth takes this opportunity to wink at Alyndra.

Ickbar: "It might not be another... but a key word wit this cars is Mistress. Perhaps you might ahve to be very careful with them in the future, or maybe some troubled times with your relationship, so be aware of that." He nods.

Alyndra watches Azmodeth perplexed, stares back and smiles eventually and then at Ickbar: "Hm, this was interesting - I don't know your custom, is there a material price?" and continues: "I mean, you have to survive with your craft, is it usual to leave you gold for your services?"

Ickbar: "I usually ask the sum of 99 gold coins." He nods with a smile.

Azmodeth: "Another double nine..."

Alyndra: "I think that is fair." She reaches for her pack an rummages around: "I don't care much about coins." Grumbles: "Ah, here..." adding at Azmodeth: "You are right..."

Ickbar nods: "And be sure to be aware of the Nines in the future."

Azmodeth looks at the fortune teller...: "May I have my future past and present read too, the same as hers..."

Alyndra stands up and walks over to the waterfall, where she remains silent for a long time thinking about the fortune told.

Re: Memories of Alyndra Morningdew

After strolling through the cleaner parts of Baldur's Gate - not being intimidated that much anymore, after having visited this town a few times already - I heard some merry sounds coming from the White Mask theater. Curiosity won over my reserved nature and I entered it to see the show end.
Some spectators were subsequently invited to a behind the scenes party and I just tagged along.
It was nice to meet humans and other people who weren't eaten by greed for wealth and influence. Well maybe they were too, but their greed was a need to perform? I rather could live with that...

Hidden: show
Image
Afterwards I passed through the murkier parts of town and came across a gathering in the courtyard of the Flaming Fist compound near the harbour. And which was my surprise to see "Frostbiter" (aka Azmodeth) being dragged in shackles before a trial by the Flaming Fist?
The gathering was quite big and I didn't feel at ease at all among all these people. I only saw few of my kin there. Apparently it didn't concern us elfs.

The commander or captain of the Fists asked the attendants to come forward and to speak against or in favour of the Blue Mage. Some just wasted our times pondering about justice in general.

Some spoke in favour of her, especially her former and current follower of the arcane arts. Now that is another greed I hardly understand, but I digress... And a few brought accusations against her. Not surprised among them was another mage. How quickly they turn on each other? Or don't they feel any kinship at all?

After hearing the condescending tone of the man in charge and seeing the distress of one of Frostbiter's adept I decided to step forward and to give a testimony in favour of her. Although we had met under suspicious circumstances (Azmodeth had been accused erroneously or so it seemed of another crime) I vouched all in all for her character. It seemed like I talked too much as the commander or captain shooed me away after some time.
Still I could see by the reactions of the former and current acolytes that my words were appreciated.

Azmodeth was freed after some time, as the accuser hadn't even showed up and the Flaming Fist didn't feel they were responsible for the Cloakwood anyways where the alleged crime happened.
And the accusation seemed to be bogus anyways. Who wouldn't kill a shadow druid in the first place? These beings are an aberration of nature. They attack anything that comes into their forest. They have warped minds for sure. And give us druids a bad reputation...

As usual the Blue Mage decided to show off by teleporting her and her friends - among them a rather shady but dashing man, who seemed to be entangled with an adept of Azmodeth - away in the middle of the courtyard. I hope that doesn't cause any further trouble for her. It wouldn't surprise me in the least, as trouble seems to follow her wherever she goes...

After many years about finding a new home, Alyndra finally settles down in Doron Amar. She immediately starts looking for like minded people who whould be interested in creating a druid grove or in case there is already one: join it.

She is grateful to Celasorsan Longfeather (of her own wild kin) for introducing her to Doron Amar and some of it's inhabitants. To Syolkiir for being a good friend and showing her that a home is everywhere if you are open for it and are able to show a little bit of kindness (and for the training she recieved in perfecting her skill in archery). And finally to the mage Rhys Feivra, who was patient enough to accept her officially in Doron Amar and showed her the arcane tower among other things.

A dead dryad. She was able to form a bow out of the same beech she inhabited. But now both are rotting away. And the tree with which she formed a mutually beneficial life remains alone.
The wild elf steps over her and vanishes behind the beech.

Later the same week, she is seen harnessing the powers of a storm. Mainly the lightning. She gathers it in every fiber of her body and releases it through her hands. It is of such a raw force, she is hardly able to control it. Her companions feel often the biting sting in their flesh, hide or other material...

Alyndra studies the door in the tree. Pondering where it leads, she is suddenly distracted by a roar. Something is attacking her, and the mistery flees her mind. Another day will bring the solution...

Alyndra Morningdew misses the celebrations in Silmishta the most: dancing under a starry sky and to the sounds of the seamingly primitive green elven music and rhythm.
As she remembers the jolly time with her clan, she begins dancing - stepping lightly - to a music only she can hear.
While the moon looms overhead she lets go of the anguish fighting for survival and the worries on the looming doom that has beset the region. The druidess doesn't know yet what it is, but she can feel it nearby...

"Soon", thought Alyndra. She still was deeply disturbed about the changes in the lands and she missed her friend from the grove. A quick prayer to the Oak Father was silently spoken by her, hoping that nothing drastic had happened.

All the more was she grateful for the invitation to assist to the festivities in the Ardeep forest in the north. She was curious about the fae. Though they were much too whimsical and unreliable for the wild elf, she accepted them as being part of nature. Also she marvelled if Dana finally had found a way to return to the otherworld and reunite with her family.

While she slowly wandered to her destination from the lands around Nashkel, she visited some special landmarks like the druid circle, the mushroom ring in the cloakwood and the misty lake before reaching Boareskyr Bridge. She hoped the changes for worse weren't too wide spread.

After all this secretive tracking in the wild, a bit of merriment with friends would be really welcome to her. Still she dreaded the wild faes a bit and especially their jokes.
"Well, if they misbehave too much, I am sure you will protect me from them" she thought with a wry smile, passing her hand through the fur of Syllith, her loyal wolf companion.

Addendum:
Although Alyndra doesn't like to remain too long in Baldur's Gate, she bought a garment at Aiello's which she thought would go splendidly with the future festivities among the feys.

And a lucky find in her travels (most likely a dungeon crawl) provided her a gem which she will present there too.

Alyndra is very fond of these memories as she had a great time during the festivities. And even got a very valuable gift at the end, after giving something in return too. She met an impressive Treant, watched Ivan squirm a bit, as the dryads tried to seduce him, listened to the bard Tamara - her lovely voice and skillmanship on her instrument impressing even the fae - enjoyed the company of Dana, who had invited them all - her family being the fae hosting the festivities - and ate and drank, danced and frolicked like in her past with her kin in the Forest of Shadows.

Alyndra Morningdew's thoughts still echo from the fresh memories of the short visit to her old home: Shilmista. Especially Daoine Dun was a pleasure. She has not met with open hostility and contempt as she expected. But her kin didn't welcome her back with open arms either.
The wild elven druidess was allowed to enter the caves in the sacred hills of Daoine Dun however and even peruse the old tomes and written testimonies of old age.
Probably one of the few places in the forest of shadows where books can be found.

Deacon performed a grandiose magic show the other day. He knows how to catch the attention of a crowd: he had just one minor hick up but he with his quick mind knew exactly how to make it look intentional and part of the event:

Alyndra's memory is a bit sketchy, the order of the acts might have been different:

First he asked for one volunteer which had to walk through walls of fire. Good thing he had a ward against it - cast by our host - or it might have gone quite badly. The chap even started dancing once he realized he couldnt be affected by the hot conflagration.

The second act consisted in asking for three volunteers which Deacon wanted to petrify. Unfortunately two of the volunteers had very high saves against the spell. Ah well, he made a riddle out of it. Asking the spectators who they thought had been the poor sod hit by the spell. As only one had been petrified. And the three would-be-statues were hidden behind a curtain.

The third act consisted in casting some missiles at predisposed target bags placed in a circle around the arena. It made quite an impression, especially the number of all the missiles. It almost seemed it wouldnt end anymore.

The fourth was prepared by covering the arena with darkness and then shifting into different forms. Although there was some minor diffulty it seemed. As the giant form wasnt as big as intended at the end.

Anyways it was great fun and the wild elven druidess even learned something new.

Edit: finally wrote some words to the fey feast some posts above. And cleaned the thread up a bit.

The last deed of Syllith

The grey wolf saw her friend Alyndra fall to a creature wrapped in fire. She was against their venture to the underbelly of the tower from the beginning, but as usual she followed the wild elf even fighting the black dragon and the shadow creature.
They were succesful and high from the victory both descended even further. But, alas, their protective spells ran out and the last fiery monster was one too many.

Syllith tried to protect her dead companion but the flames were too much. Then the red behemoth howled full of anger and pain. Hooded beings appeared with tiny crossbows in their hands. And a caster finished it. But the grey wolf didn't have time to thank the new comers. As the next shot from one of the crossbows reached her. Then another and another. And at last she fell over her friend into eternal darkness, still trying to protect her.

Alyndra decides to leave the Elder Circle at last. Some of the members, especially one, have been too long a thorn in her side. Differences are to be expected but the situation was just not comfortable anymore for the lonely druidess.

And Alyndra accepted being the adjunct to the priestess Sayel of Doron Amar. That means she will represent Sayel in case of an emergency in the council or other matters.
