Character biography: Ghaundan Xorlarrin

Ghaundan is the firstborn son of the wizard Raelaryn, of the noble house Xorlarrin of Menzoberranzan.

His father was an elder of the Council of Spiders who sought to gain the support of a high-ranking wizard in Menzoberranzan and consequentially representation on the Ruling Council of Menzoberranzan.

As so often happened to members of his house, Ghaundan found himself excelling at arcane arts and magical practises: he was then sent to train in the sculpted stalagmite towers of the Sorcere near the western wall of the Tier Breche cavern in Menzoberranzan.
His sisters Briza and Qilue despised the freedom and the relevancy accorded to male wizards, especially in their noble house, and their endeavour to become priestess of Llolth pushed their hatred for Ghaundan even further.

While his sisters believed that house Xorlarrin should not risk an alliance with another drow house, less than ever with the disloyal scums of Bregan D’aerthe, Ghaundan supported his father’s cousin Hoshtar Xorlarrin in his plot to gain influence and power by Llolth’s Demon Weave scheme by associating with house Melarn and the mercenary company.

Upon the partial succes of their plan, his father Raelaryn invited his cousin, Hoshtar Xorlarrin, and Ghaundan himself, to meet with the Council of Spiders in the compound of the fallen House Srune'Lett in Narbondellyn: unfortunately Ghaundan was summoned by the Matron Mother Zeerith at Citadel Xorlarrin and wasn’t able to attend the meeting.
During it, his father Raelaryn and the other elder present were assassinated by an unknown attacker who would then be revealed as a member of the Jaezred Chaulssin aiming to start a civil war, while Hoshtar was taken captive.

With the news of this unexpected events reaching Menzoberranzan, Ghaundan absence was looked with suspicion by his sisters and eventually they decided to finally confront him. Profiting from the chaos the situation had generated, and with all the focus of house Xorlarrin on his abducted member, Briza and Qilue entered secretely Ghaundan’s chambers in the Sorcere and blamed him for their father’s death: in few moments, years of envy, despise and jealousy took form when the two sisters decided to end their brother’s life.
The confrontation was both terrible and brief, and Ghaundan ended up escaping in the streets of Menzoberranzan, fleeing for his life, having already lost a finger trying to counter Briza’s and Qilue’s divine spells.

One of his uncle's contacts in Bregan D’aerthe was able to smuggle him out of the city, where he joined a slavers caravan directed to Sshamath, and shaved his head with toughts of revenge and powerlust.
