From the FR wikia :
Battleragers are a type of dwarven fighter whose combat style relies on raw instinct, anger and physical strength. The individuals who practice this type of fighting are usually mentally unstable with a low life expectancy.
Battleragers are known as Kuldjargh in their native Dwarvish, which literally translates to axe idiot.
Although considered brave by their kin, most battleragers are outcasts, rarely engaging in conversation with other dwarves. Children are kept away from battleragers, due to their aggressive nature and short temper.
I want to know how should one RP a Battlerager, more specifically, his or her mental attributes?
Charisma - innately low Dwarven charisma coupled with Gruff. Does Gruff apply "real" penalty to Charisma, or just to charisma related skills? I mean, how to RP someone with 2 or 4 Charisma?
Wisdom and Intelligence - judging by those quotes, it would be hard to imagine a Battlerager with a positive Wisdom score. Intelligence a bit less so, but still...
What's your take on this?

Re: Battlerager and Mental Attributes
insult alot, cuss alot, drink alot, rush into fights, speak your mind,
I would rp them as a barbarian pretty much under the "rage" effect, unless they are so drunk it settles them down enough to have a slur conversation that makes some sense.
I would avoid
Stoic Battleragers
reglious battleragers
playing them like a dwarven defender, they are the opposite of that.
dwarves see them brave due to the fact that will rush into any fight no matter the odds, I think most lore they are used to augment dwarven defensive ranks, an auxillary rush force or a sucide squad.
They run in and grapple opponents, and cause disarray in the enemies line. While the rest of the dwarves use the time to position themselves in a more tactical position.

Re: Battlerager and Mental Attributes
Just a personal not from playing one here (granted it was only for about a week).. be ready for some OOC tells sent your way if you decide to play one that is anything less than stoic, friendly, or subdued.
People tend to get the wrong idea of, or have grown tired of, characters that are more instinctual, unstable, etc.
I personally love the RP and would love to see even a small group of 3-4 battleragers shredding around the battlefield, but the RP is tricky to pull off around some people.

Charisma is more than just social graces, so go with what your attribute really is. Penalties to social interaction won't make one any less physically beautiful or sever their divine link and strength of personality.

I just rp mine so he doesn't know common, so you spew out dwarven insults all day
, if only there was a way to have it on all the time though, and be able to fight at the same time. So far its been pretty fun, esp when they don't know the dwarven language. I think some elves are figuring out the "Knife Ear" translation though lol

Yeah, don't know about the above for a FR setting, sounds like mix of Realms phrases mixed with stuff someone randomly made up (Tinkerbell?) ... here are some official FR dwarven phrases:7threalm wrote:I just rp mine so he doesn't know common, so you spew out dwarven insults all day, if only there was a way to have it on all the time though, and be able to fight at the same time. Grinding sucks, RP while adventuring makes it much more tolerable.

Re: Battlerager and Mental Attributes
I believe the Gutbuster Brigade from the Drizzt novels are kinda unique like that, with the spiked armors and the thrashing and ripping and the bowel piercing helmet charges and so forth.7threalm wrote: They run in and grapple opponents, and cause disarray in the enemies line. At least that's what I read here on the forums - normally Battleragers use axes like most dwarves, but they are ofc. good fist fighters and clearly engage in the same way as the Brigade, suicidal and berserker-like.
Vengeance must be sought for all injustices, and all punishments must fit the crime
Maintain the spirit of the law, not the letter of the law
All attacks must be avenged
