It may have been covered already, I haven't read through all 29 pages, but.. What are peoples views on RCR?

I've seen it role played out as 'going on an internal journey where characters have found new enlightenment and its changed their lives', I've seen it completely brushed over as if the mechanical RCR has no influence on the character or their life.

If you simply change the build of a character should it be RP'd?

I RP it and since my toons take ages to reach high levels they just (re)train :) Alyssa went from Warlock/SD/Daggerspell to wizard apprentice/assassin smoothly enough (both builds involve RTAs, HiPS, high dex) after breaking her pact and getting tempted again in the Hells.

If the RCR is too much out of the character way of being I just roll a new one.

In this particular case I had a character and build concept that wasn't going to be allowed under server rules, so I adjusted to make it as close as possible and played it out, to the point where the char was level 30 for over a year. During that time the server rules were adjusted, and I could now build the character as was intended from the start. So I RCR'd to get closer to my original concept, which involved only a couple of feat changes and 3 levels swapped.

The issue I'm faced with now, is whether the said character is still the same character? Have they changed? and do I have to explain the level 30 to 20 drop? Surely their historical deeds remain, and their mind set is likely to be hardly different as I was probably playing them out with the RCR'd build as my canvas. Advice?

Some people RCR and pretend like nothing happened, so if you choose to do that... I do not think anyone will exactly fault you for it ;)

And some think more around it and I know there are those who ask others to help them create a plot which would 'justify' their RCR. Death of a close friend might cut a priest off from his spells a while? Any distressing news could make the warrior or rogue lose focus in their fighting abilities... A mage could have had a magical backslash from a spell or experiment, playing havoc with their mind or tampering with their grasp of the weave...

I RCRed my sorceress several times due to minor things, she stayed the same concept and the changes were not noticeable for others but I RPed it out as change in direction of her discoveries and relation to the weave. For example, she used to have the Fiery Burst reserve feat. I explained that away with that she had learned to master and suppress her ability to call forth fire at will, because it was so unreliable and dangerous.

For minor changes, IMO, you do not need much of an IC reason. For greater changes, it can be interesting and fun to make a longer story out of it and involve others :)

If no significant gameplay changes occured (hulking melee warrior turned into a charming agile rogue wizard), I would suggest coming up with an injury or imprisonment to justify significant drop in power

I would like a little feedback about my journal here on the forums.

Jarresh's Journal

Do you like the graphics? Or would you rather see it typed out?
Is there more you'd like to see? (pictures, screenshots, maps)
Is the font readable? Layout? Etc.
Is there anything missing from it so far you'd like to see added?

Please comment here or through PM. Please do not post in the Journal thread.

Thanks for the feedback. :)

Ooo...

-I like the graphics. You chose a font which gives a sense of handwriting but remains readable. I find it difficult to read lots of text if it looks too much like scribbles that needs deciphering. Typed letters have ruined me..! I can imagine someone holding that journal and looking through it, as it looks like now.

-The addition of images is nice, especially when they've been made to look to "fit" and not out of place.

-Missing? More juicy stuff...! :P I have not written a journal myself as it would have given away too much about my character, so I know it can be a bit of a difficult balance to make it interesting but also not give away everything.

Thanks for your feedback Nomster! Very much appreciated. I will try to add some more juicy stuff in the near future. Like you said it is a fine balance in finding what you can say without giving too much away. It's even harder when you're in a guild because you don't want to give away secrets to be meta-gamed. That is why I didn't start mine until Jarresh left the Silver Shield.

Thanks again! :)

Enjoying Jarresh's journal.

The graphical style is immersive, the soldier's take on the more mundane aspects of life and travel are interesting. The insight into his wavering in faith is where the journal starts getting more "juice" as Nomster would put it, and it benefits from it (the earlier entries setting a counterpoint bedrock, so necessary).

It does the thing that Ameris' journal fails to do, and sticks as the writings of Jarresh, rather than writing per se. (although there is an excuse for that in my case)

Keep going!

Might be biased on account of how much we interact, but Altyani's a pretty swell character. She completely deconstructs the cliche of wizards as the grumpy, edgy, sociopathic murderers who responds to everything with a bigsby or an implosion, without leaving the evil zone of alignements for it. A socialite, which is weird coming from a coven of secretive plotting red wizards of thay, Altyani gives candlekeep a run for their money when it comes to relationships with outsiders of their faction.

Now's my turn in front of the inquisition. Felian Feyborn, manchild magnifique, And Valandra, stranger in a strange land. Feedback/Opinions?
