Hi Baldur's Gate community
A question for all the experts:
I've just tried to use a couple of scrolls on my rogue but the Use Magic Device DC was somewhat higher than what I could gather from the Wiki.
Apparently it appears that the DC is 25 + spell level.
That can't be right as that would restrict Scroll use by non-mages to epic leveled characters.
So I must be doing something wrong.
Is there something that could increase the DC?

Re: Scroll DC question
UMD DC for scrolls is indeed 25 + Spell level.
Maybe you were thinking of wands/rods from the wiki? That's significantly less.

I think you're right.DM Narshe wrote:UMD DC for scrolls is indeed 25 + Spell level.

The Wiki is actually a bit unclear as it says this:
"To cast a spell from a scroll (if the difficulty mode of the game is set to Hardcore or higher), you must make a DC check of 25 plus the level of the spell."
But also this:
"Emulate an Alignment: Minimum DC10
Emulate a Class: Minimum DC13
Use a Scroll: Lvl 1(DC13), Lvl 2(DC15), Lvl 3(DC17), Lvl 4(DC19), Lvl 5(DC21), Lvl 6(DC23), Lvl 7(DC25), Lvl 8(DC27), Lvl 9(DC29)
Use a Wand: DC10
Use a Rod: DC12"
But I guess 25 + spell level is correct.
Thanks for you reply

Re: Scroll DC question
Both are true, you've got to read carefully. There are two checks with UMD :
1. To be able to use it : Use a Scroll: Lvl 1(DC13), Lvl 2(DC15), Lvl 3(DC17), Lvl 4(DC19), Lvl 5(DC21), Lvl 6(DC23), Lvl 7(DC25), Lvl 8(DC27), Lvl 9(DC29)
2. To cast successfully : you must make a DC check of 25 plus the level of the spell, ie your modified UMD score plus a d20 versus 25+spell level.
