Nariax, the rothe of a forgotten master

Unread post by Alkaizer74 »

Image

First Name: Nariax
Last Name: n/a

Appearance: An average looking duergar with light skin and hairless features
Race: Duergar
Age: 150
Height 5'0
Weight: 190 lbs
Eyes: clear
Hair: shaved head of a disciplined and obedient roth
Facial Hair Style: no dwarven beard

Personality Profile: Nariax is generally submissive though he is not too shy to politely volunteer an idea. He will obey drow and especially drow females. He is lawful and thus attempts to obey law at all times though the law about him being unable to be a rothe (which is what he wants to be) is a bit fuzzy to him. He will nevertheless obey the law to his best ability while looking for a way to meet his personal goals. (see goal for additional personality ideas)
General Health: weak health, physically he is not much to look at, and quite below average compared to others of his race
Deity: Loviatar
Initial Alignment: Lawful evil
Profession: An obedient and loyal former rothe. He is currently dealing with Sshammath law that says he is free although he does not want freedom in that sense of the word. In his logic, he wants to be free to choose to be a rothe. Regardless, being a rothe is in his past and currently he has no profession in Sshamath.
Base Class & Proposed Development: Warlock developed towards monk
Habits/Hobbies: He understands and reads a variety of scrolls. He recently has found purpose in being a guide of sorts by helping several drow procure basilisks eggs and safely return to Sshamath
Languages: Common, undercommon, dwarf, Jotun, goblin, orc
Weapon of Choice: Initially a scroll of polymorph was his preferred approach to combat, but after confirming his warlock powers he learned to use the eldritch blast. Recently he learned to channel the form and power of a hell hound and now prefers that over all other approaches to combat. Nariax also has a fixation with using his racial ability to keep himself enlarged as often as possible much to the distaste of many drow has ventured into the underdark with. He feels the larger stature helps him look more intimidating in combat and is largely a compensation for his inability.

Background: Nariax's believes he is the former rothe of a master whom Nariax has forgotten. Initially, when Nariax came to conciousness near the city of Sshamath he had shadows of memories about being subservient to a master and with his limited memory believed his master could have been a mage or a druid.

He found help from a drow named Amir who was skilled at tracking down his prey. The drow was able to narrow down, after much discussion, that Nariax's master was most likely a warlock.

Nariax later had a mysterious encounter with a warlock in the Darkwood District of Southern Sshammath where his demonic powers were confirmed. The mysterious warlock (who later revealed himself to be a drow named Envil) had premonitions about Nariax's future and stated that Nariax had an unnatural bond with a summon of his Master. Perhaps the summon could speak to Nariax.

Goals: To seek out and find who his master is, why his memory was lost, and to become a roth again. Once Nariax can shift into a hellhound and/or horned devil it is likely that Jeckle/Hyde personality (classic split personality) variation will play out with the intention of creating some fun and interesting RP until the time that Nariax learns to control the forms.
Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts: (These are only ideas of what could possibly happen and not all of them need to be true and can be changed if the do not meet server guidelines. I understand that Nariax is simply a duergar and must be played that way although i think it is understandable that he would act differently such as more confidence, braver, etc. when shaped)
1. Nariax's master is a devil
2. Nariax received a more infernal-like name from the devil after the pact was formed. He eventually relearns that his former duergar name was Bruthwol Coalshadow
3. Nariax is an escaped Duergar slave from the Illithids who ran into the lower levels of the duergar compound and made an infernal pact with a devil there to gain eldritch powers in hopes of using them to gain freedom. Upon exiting the compound he was recaptured and taken to the hive where they attempted to erase his mind and thereby hopefully also his new powers.
4. Nariax's desire to be a rothe is a remnant of the mental brainwashing performed on him by the Illithids. He obviously, at one time did everything he could to no longer be a slave including his mysterious pact with the devil.
5. Nariax's personality was also flushed in the hive and replaced with what initially was a very submissive duergar. However, the real Nariax, Bruthwol Coalshadow, is a very evil and power hungry individual willing to take huge risks and sacrifices to gain his personal desires.

After receiving cerebral flushing at the hands of the illithids, Nariax was an obedient slave...for a time. Slowly over a month, fragments of former memories started to return at first only in dreams and later as cloudy visions during his waking hours. Finally, one cycle, Nariax bolted from the illithids and raced through a maze of tunnels before he fell unconscious and came to in a field of mushrooms not far from Sshamath's borders. In his new surroundings, and with the cerebral flushing still relatively new he found that he was unable to identify his past with anything more than a few shadowy ideas about who he was, where he came from, or why he was in the mushroom field.

Nariax was attacked in the Sshamath streets in front of many onlookers by Unzhul the tanaruk. After a long duel of mostly Nariax running and casting invisibility between eldritch blasts and Unzhul drinking several health potions, Unzhul finally fled inside Gloura's Wings and the battle ended. Nariax believes the attack was incited after a disagreement the two had over one wanting and the other not wanting to be a rothe.

Nariax spoke with a drow in Gloura's wings and was invited to explore the illithid hive for answers concering his past. Nariax and the drow enlisted the help of another jaluk named Izzrar (whom Nariax had met previously) to infiltrate the hive and then exit leaving as little evidence of their presence as possible while also looking for clues that might shed light on Nariax's past. Various samples were taken from within the hive including illithid crystals used in their machinery and engravings from their walls to be researched later. However, the operation got messy and the illthids became aware of a presence in the hive after two mind worms were killed.

While in the hive, a memory came back to Nariax. He remembered being a slave to the Illithids and being in the hive as they attempted cerebral flushing techniques on him. This memory was understandably traumatizing to him and he begin to wonder if he really wanted to know any more details about his past.

However, it also left him very confused. One the one hand, he was told that his master was a warlock and on the other he discovers that his masters were actually illithids. He questions what the truth is. Could both things still be true? Could Nariax have had two separate masters?

After narrowly defeating a final wave of attackers, Izzrar used a teleport scroll and managed to plant foot prints that would lead any illithids that attempted to follow them directly to the rebel drow of the Oghrann ruins. It was a coverup and a frame job that could have only been improvised by one with experience.
