Stormlord abilities.

Unread post by NegInfinity »

Are stormlord abilities spells?

"Shocking burst and sonic weapon", "Shock weapon", etc. They act as they are spells.

Meaning that can a character with high enough spellcraft should recognize them.
And character with high enough lore should know that those are granted by talos.

Need official stance on that.

http://dndtools.eu/classes/stormlord/

"Shock Weapon (Su): Any spear or javelin used by a stormlord of 2nd level or higher is treated as a shock weapon (dealing an extra 1d6 points of electricity damage). The weapon loses this ability 1 round after leaving the hand of the stormlord."

They aren't spells or spell-like abilities, so I don't think they would be recognizable with spellcraft.

I'm not sure the "shock weapon" effect is unique, so lore may not help either.

Situation that caused the question:

A char stands in front of me and spams "Shocking and burst weapon" (which I see and recognize in combat log), repeatedly without saying anything. My character has sufficient lore skill to know about stormlords.

Exactly how am I supposed to react to that?

Shocking and burst weapon only works when held. You playing it off the visual effect you see in game and the gestures or animations put forth by the game. Nowhere in the PNP class does it say it has a visual effect. The way i always played it was the charge goes off through the Stormlord on hit much like how you can build a static charge and shock someone when you touch them. The Dev staff here should really remove the VFX for this so they don't get meta gamed for an ability that works thru them.
Shocking Burst Weapon (Su): For a stormlord of 8th level or higher, any spear or javelin he uses is treated as a shocking burst weapon. The weapon loses this ability 1 round after leaving the hand of the stormlord. This effect stacks with that of the stormlord’s thundering weapon ability.

It would sure be nice not having to activate the ability every few turns. If its not like that in pnp you could change that... i got enough to do buffing. Dont have to activate that animation before every fight.

If you're getting hit by a shock or burst effect, and you understand such things, are you really going to not recognise what it is?

You guys overthink things far too often.

She talked about watching the SL cast it not getting his spear in the but. Even then how would you distinguish it from a "normal" shock enhanced weapon?
As i see it now the SL animation / need for activation is just for the "cool look"?
I said it before if SL weapons should be perma enhanced and you could do that. why not?
