Question about Segojan Earthcaller

Unread post by Necropolis »

Hi there, for my main I made a Svirfneblin and am intending on him mechanically being a rogue/ranger/cavestalker, but was just wanting to ensure that Segojan Earthcaller is an appropriate gnomish deity for a ranger to receive spells. Can anyone confirm this?

Based on the information I have about Segojan Earthcaller I don`t see any reason why he wouldn`t be able to grant spells. The god is good-aligned, and I don`t know about the server semantics, but the lore seems intact as per the dogma of Segojan Earthcaller:

"The earth is the heart and soul of the Forgotten Folk. From its nurturing embrace spring forth the children of Garl, on its surface and amid its tunnels and caves they dwell in life and beneath its silken shroud they rest in death. Preserve and protect the natural world that lies beneath the roots of those who dwell on the surface. Dig burrows, tunnel and explore, for the Badger welcomes all gnomes into his domain. Ware the evil that ensnares those blinded by the avarice and destructive impulses of the Crawler Below and the Lord of the Burrow shall protect those who dwell in his demesne and live in harmony with his teachings."

If you're concerned about the mechanical aspect, create a new character, pick ranger, select an appropriate alignment, and see if you can select Segojan Earthcaller as a deity.

If you cannot, post here again.

It allows me to select him as a deity as a ranger if chaotic good, but not chaotic neutral (which is my main's alignment). Always assumed good alignments were uncommon in Svirfneblin.

I agree, any creature who lives in the UD is rarely good. Realmshelp confirms your thoughts on Svirfneblins alignment.
Alignment: Svirfneblin believe that their survival depends on avoiding entanglements with other races, so they strongly favor neutral alignments. While they rarely wish others ill, neither are they especially willing to take risks on behalf of others.

However, Segojan Earthcaller only allows the following alignments as his clerics (and I assume this goes for any diviner dedicated to him really, which a ranger is): Lawful Good, Neutral Good, Chaotic Good.

If you'd like to be a ranger of Segojan Earthcaller, your main character will have to be one of those alignments - regardless of what's the norm for your race, the gods don't just make exceptions in who they chose to give divine magic :)
