Re: I keep getting killed
Level 1 wizard with 10 con has 4 hitpoints and can't use any armor, while rogue can wear chain shirt and probably has much higher dexterity. Meaning that while wizard will have 10 ac, rogue can easily have 20 or more - with starting equipment, and rogue has access to larger selection of weapons + sneak attack.duracele wrote:i got my level 1 rogue with originally 6 hp to 35 just with beginner stuff. At level 1 mage armor lasts 5 minutes and it is very likely that you'll have 10 ac without it as a wizard. Summon creature I (level 2 wolf) lasts 1 or 2 minutes, shield lasts 1 minute.
Of course, you can always do non-combat quests if you're non-ecl race.

There is also no rest timer at level 1, cast your protective spells, join the fray and cast your damage/killing spells, rest. Rinse and repeat.

A beginner wizard should be using their BRAINS to gain experience. Not their brawn...or lack of it. This is about RPing a class.

Guys guys, why don't you try things ?
I didn't found the info listed either, just noticed it !
I don't know at which level the rest timer kicks in but either way it's at 45 seconds * level so at low levels .. there's your free rest

Unfortunately mindless destruction is more rewarding (XP wise) than RP is.stevebarracuda wrote:A beginner wizard should be using their BRAINS to gain experience. Not their brawn...or lack of it. This is about RPing a class.

mrieder79 wrote:You have chosen one of the hardest ways to get started on the server. Wizard with an ECL 1 race. It is no surprise you are having a hard time. I recommend you roll a dwarven fighter. go 16 con, 16 str, 12 dex and whatever else you want with the other stats.
Just start out with fighter. Play him to about 10th level or so until you learn the server a little better. When you know the places, things will get much easier.
If you are set on playing an air gensai wizard, then the advice already given is the best. It's gonna be hard and slow though.

Re: I keep getting killed
I just leveled as Aasimar monk from 1 to 6. I've also leveled a wizard, though not ECL. Few things I can tell you:
AC items are nice but expensive at level 1 (about 1500 gold if you find them in the shops). Look for bonuses to HP, they will be cheaper and even a few will build up. Check the two shops at Maltz often, especially if the server has been up for awhile.
Get a sling for the graveyard, not a crossbow.
As Luna mentioned, hunt wolves alone. Much safer and you can still make coin on the pelts with the guy in the farmlands east near the gate. Meanwhile keep an eye on the scry to see if anybody is in the graveyard.
Magic missle. Excellent range and good damage. Pelt zombies with this as much as you can and run away.
People mentioned running some higher level quests. Go to the campfire in farmlands east and try to get an escort RP'ly to Beregost to run Maltz's quest. You can usually catch a few higher levels heading south anyway to tag along with.

just enjoy the game and do not think about your level. This game you play for fun. I have now 5 characters level 30, but they almost did not play (not interested). So believe that the 30 level is not the goal

Sounds like alot of grinding, it normally takes me 4-6 months just to get back to level 28-29.odyssey wrote:just enjoy the game and do not think about your level. This game you play for fun. Re: I keep getting killed
Scrolls of Summon Monster III from the wizard shop is a solo low level caster's best friend. A party is still preferable, but not always available. If the graveyard's too tough, try the farmlands with the wolves and creepy spiders, it has similar exp per monster, but less mobs.
Quests are helpful, a crafty or well equipped mage can manage many of the quests found in Baldur's Gate and surrounding farmland. For the beginner, though, the trick is finding them.
