Wizards Bane Barbarian Rage

Unread post by Matherhorn »

When I first created Greenwolf he has a distrust against all wizards or arcane spell casters.
"Hail Wizard"

So I was thinking creating a rage that helps a barbarian fight wizards

The stats might be
Strength + 4 / +6 / + 8 / + 10

When ever hit with arcane magic a "Reflect Magic" Ability takes effect and gives the barbarian a 10% chance to reflect the spell back to the caster

And spell resistance at level 14 + 1 for each following level

AC Deflection -2 / -3 / -4 / -5

Better to just make Frenzied Berserker Frenzy match the one described in the sourcebooks. It grants immunity to all Death spells and effects, as well as prevents death from injury while the Frenzy lasts. If at the end of the Frenzy, the character is below 0 HP, they fall unconcious, if they are below -10, they die.

A barbarian would never be able to reflect back a spell.

Because it doesn't involve a completely new branch of Barbarian Rage that isn't supported by lore.

All classes have their strengths and weaknesses. A barbarian can easily kill a wizard, and vice versa. Whomever gets the first jump on the other usually wins.

Something that should change to help with spellcasters, however, is that Rage and Frenzy are bugged and can be dispelled despite being Extraordinary effects. It's a bug in NWN2, and it's not easy to solve, if possible at all.

Level 30 Barbarian agaisnt level 30 Wizard is a 50/50 win ratio. The Barbarian takes away between 15-25% HP from the Wizard with every attack that hits. He can use Knockdown to stop most spellcasts each round, and he have a ton of hitpoints as well as high Fortitude saves. The only issue is getting immobilized by the Reflex Save Bigby, but the monsters don't cast that spell.

If it's PvP we're talking about, then there's no need, as two things usually happen in PvP:
Either the Wizard is unprepared and gets stomped, or the Wizard is prepared and wipes the floor with the Barbarian. Even then, for PvP to happen, you need RP first, which means that the Barbarian will be very close to the Wizard and can use Knockdown at the beginning of PvP to gain the upper hand.

Well, you can try :)

I'm all for having classes be like they are in lore, so Stormlord changes are welcome, but adding non-lore abilities to classes isn't something the devs should spend their precious time on in my oppinion.

Good luck with it though :)

generally all a wizard has to do is spam bigby which is the most non-pnp spell(adaptation) in the game and it is an auto win, even 30 str isn't enough to break it,

the defense is lesser spell mantile wands
really high ac
Really High Str

In pnp the hand has hit points and is considered a summon, if i recall correctly
