Anyone else visiting DreamHack today?

Unread post by Storm Munin »

Like the header says, anyone else visiting the worlds largest computer festival today?

Checking it out with my son who is keen to learn if it is worth the chores he will have to do to spend the weekend at the festival next year.

Nah, but I'm following the CS:GO tournament. It's quite controversial to say the least.

I'm following the SC2 tournament, all I can say is "Life is life".

But, I may visit Dreamhack Summer 2015. I've friends who visit every year and they like both winter and summer, even Stockholm open, so maybe I'll give it a shot. I live fairly close to the festival after all.

The heat generated by thousands of players and their gear is pugnant.

A LAN continually handling a total of 19.4-10.7 gbps through close to 20.000 connections is mindboggling. Peak performance record was at 27.8 gbps when i was there.

Fun see all these people spending the entire weekend side by side pretty much totally devoted to gaming. Side perks were the offers from hardware companies in the gaming industry and the cosplayers.

A healthy diet were certainly NOT available. Sugar, fat and caffeine what else do you need.

End of report.

Ps. Selling my son's and mine attendance next year to my wife tonight. Good thing I have the train ride home to come up with pitches.

*bump*

A year passed by and I was not to hard to convince to spend an extended weekend gaming together with my son and a handful or two thousands other.

So here we are at Dreamhack 2015 Winter.

An interesting thing I did not take note of during the short visit last year at dreamhack are how many more women there are around gaming their heart away these days.

If you even tried to talk computer games or PnP with a woman back in the stone age, you usually got something between a blank confused face to an arched brow clearly expressing the word nerd, at best.
My wife can still excel at either when she feel like it.

Thank goodness for progress.

Gotta go even the kill score with my son, it is much easier to tea bag him when I sneak up from behind.

I'll be following the CS:GO tournament again, not visiting yet unfortunately :( A couple of friends and I were planning to take a roadtrip to one of the closer Dreamhack stops this year, but the closest one ended up being in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. I'm not THAT big of a nerd to go there just for the csgo major. It's not exactly an attractive tourist location. Now if it was in Bucharest, I would have considered it.
